Contrary to what most people say, the most dangerous animal in the world is not the lion or the tiger or even the elephant. It's a shark riding on an elephant's back, just trampling and eating everything they see.-- Jack Handey

This shark, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

even though an orca is bigger than a great white shark, the GWS stikes some primal fear point.
So unless they bring back the meglodon, then the GWS is the scariest thing in the water.

RE: Megladons

They came up with a maximum total length of about 52 feet (15.9 metres) and an approximate mass of 48 tons (tonnes). By comparison, the largest known White Shark was about 23.5 feet (7.1 metres) long and had a mass of roughly 2.3 tons (tonnes).

Today, the sharks swim a little easier.

Frank Mundus, the legendary shark fisherman said to have inspired the Captain Quint character in the movie "Jaws," has died. He was 82. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080915/ap_on_re_us/obit_mundus)

In 1964, Mundus used a harpoon to snag a 4,500-pound great white. He later bagged a 17-foot-long, 3,427-pound great white by rod and reel in 1986.

http://www.fmundus.com/images/TheFrankandDonnieFish.jpg

This shark was a little over 17 feet long and took us an hour and forty minutes to put the first gaff into it and then, after struggling for another hour, we finally got the fish secured with a tail rope, and dragged it home behind the boat.
Back at the dock at midnight, it took us another three or four hours to weigh in the fish, take photos and put him on a bed of ice for the night at Montauk Marine Basin. This picture shows where we brought him out in the morning to be examined by National Marine Fisheries Service scientists Jack Casey, Wes Pratt and their crew from the lab at Narragansett, Rhode Island.

How about a GOONCH!

Humans scoffed by mutant fish (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/weird/article1784470.ece)

A FEARSOME mutant fish has started killing people after feeding on human corpses, scientists fear.

They reckon that a huge type of catfish, called a goonch, may have developed a taste for flesh in an Indian river where bodies are dumped after funerals.

An 18-year-old Nepali disappeared in the river last year, dragged down by something described as like an “elongated pig”.

But the first victim of a goonch attack was thought to have been a 17-year-old Nepalese boy.

He was killed in April 1988 as he cooled himself in the river.

Witnesses said he was suddenly pulled below the surface.

Three months later a young boy was dragged underwater as his father watched helplessly.

Sharks always take a "test bite" before they really start to chow down. That smaller bite was probably the test bite and as he swam around he thought "GOOD EATIN'!" and then really took a bite.

And yes, the other shark was caught up in a net, like the article says.

some give the "bump"
the whites are notorious for their "3 passes"
it will approach something twice, turn away, and once its confident, make a move on the
3rd pass.

the problem im coming up with is simple knowledge of a shark's eating habits.
the bite marks dont jive. the top one is rough and ragged, much how a white eats.
the bottom one looks like something just took a big bite of it and thats it. whites dont do that. they take a bite, then another, then another, using their teeth to cut a chunk of meat off. the bite on the bottom is too perfect.

i really really hate to say it but...

i have heard of cannibalism within sharks, but i am still having a hard time believing that a another shark could have made such a perfect bite.

if it was one, this shark must jaw strength unlike anything else. whites, if im correct, have a bite of approx 3000psi.
i could be high, though.

A tourist enjoying a swim yesterday off of Fish Hoek beach in Cape Town, South Africa, was suddenly pulled under the surf and dragged out to sea by what onlookers have called a "dinosaur-sized shark," according to several media reports. (http://news.discovery.com/animals/dinosaur-sized-shark-kills-tourist.html)

Iafrica said there is little chance of finding the tourist, 37-year-old Lloyd Skinner of Zimbabwe.

National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Ian Klopper said, "The shark attacked him three times. It didn't bite him and let him go." But then, "It came back and carried on eating" the victim.

Skinner was said to have been about 328 feet from the shore, alone and farther out than other swimmers, when the attack happened. Witnesses say he was about chest deep in warm water, adjusting his goggles, when he was pulled under at 3 PM on Tuesday. A search for his remains continues today, although an ominous patch of blood was visible, and Skinner's swimming goggles have been recovered.

Stories like this creep me out. His entire life, the guy was just walking shark food.

sure he wasnt 325 or 329 feet from the shore? im second guessing the location.
chest deep is more than sufficient for a great white crusing the bottom to find a snack.

then again, the dood's from zimbabwe. how much meat could possibly be on his bones? that must have been one starving shark.

That shark was only 10 feet, they estimate the biter to be 20 feet. Not exactly awe inspiring.
However :"The great white, the most dangerous creature in the sea, was still alive when hauled onto a boat near Deadman's Beach off north Stradbroke island."

That "bit in half shark" was still alive. Put some oxygen tanks in its mouth.
