Beer is the beverage of choice for the great unwashed.

I sip scotch, like a gentleman.

Had some of it on Saturday actually enjoyed it greatly. I can't remember what it was, is Bushmill's a scotch?

I used to be a beer snob. Then my chick did our household budget and we realized that we spent more on beer and wine than on food. Now it's strictly Pabst Blue Ribbon and Yuengling in the Aqua house.

Hey Smellers,

Just moved to Asheville NC Yesterday. The've got about 8 Breweries in the city.

Fuckin' Heaven!

I went to the A.B.C. (Asheville Brewing Company) (http://www.ashevillebrewing.com/beer.htm) last night.

SO good. I had an Amber, an IPA and Porter for Dessert.
ALso some great pizza with alfrdo sauce, spinach, mush. and blk olives.

Woody: How would a beer feel, Mr. Peterson?

Norm: Pretty nervous if I was in the room.

That's why I love you Aqualad.

You realized the importance of your buzz. I do the same thing at home. Except I drink Natural Ice. It's got a wicked high Alcohol %, and it's cheap for "Home Buzz". When I go out I splurge and drink the Craft Beers. That way, people still think I'm a Beer Snob.

I'm fine with the N.I. I think it tastes OK. It's defiantly better than Budweiser. That just tastes like Soda Water to me.

But I do brew my own beer and really have been enjoying the hops lately. The more the better. A couple of 120 minute Pale Ales from Dogfish Head brewery is what I dream of.

Woody; "Can I draw you a beer, Norm?"

Norm; "No, I know what they look like. Just pour me one."

ever have Bell's Imperial Stout? It got a 100 (out of 100) rating in the beer ratings they put on the products at the store i go to. I liked it better than the sam adams because it had a bit milder taste. But as far as stouts in my life go, nothing can touch Guiness. One of the few things in life that the most popular is the best

The thing about Imperial Stouts, Bell's Expedition especially, is that they should be stored for a while before drinking. You don't have to, but with some of them you get a taste like soy sauce if you drink them too soon. Garrett Oliver, the brewmaster at Brooklyn Brewery actually recommended buying Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout and storing it for about a year, the same with Monster Ale. They're based on Russian Imperial stouts, which were brewed to be strong to last the long trip from Russia to Europe way back in the day.

I'm drinking shock top. Not a bad flavor. Should have a piece of orange with it, but I don't have any orange. I like it better draft. Also been into UFO, by Hefeweizen. I love trying different types of beers. I like beer draft rather then from a bottle. I can not drink any beer in a can...it just taste like metal crap.

Also if anyone is in Brooklyn, I went to the Brooklyn brewery in Red Hook. They give a free tour..which is actually only one room, but it was sort of cool to know the history of how the brewery started. The cool part about going to the brewery, for $20 you get six tokens, each beer is one token, unless you get their special beer called local one, which is 2 or 3 tokens. They have plenty of seats and you can have food delivered to the brewery for yourself. They can't give free samples...city will not let them...uptight pricks. It was very cool.

I like the local one, but to me the local two whcih just started is even better. Ok i'm off to have a few or dozen. Wednesday= weekend...ok now I sound like Anthony.

After the birth of my best friend's daughter I bought a case and drank with him 48 hours later. The only thing he complained about was being awoke by a screaming hungry baby the next morning.

here's what else Yuengling has been up to if you're interested

POTTSVILLE, Pa. - Dick Yuengling Jr., fifth-generation owner of the brewery that bears his name, called his employees together a few weeks before their labor contract was set to expire to talk about the future of the business.”Read between the lines,” he told them at one point, according to government documents on the management-union feud that followed.

Depending upon whom you ask, Yuengling’s speech was either a pep talk to urge employees to work harder or an ultimatum to dump the Teamsters union, which is what they did.

Union leaders say Dick Yuengling told the workers that he would sell the business or shut it down unless they shed their decades-long affiliation with the Teamsters. How else, they say, to explain the sudden decision to decertify?

I need an update.
( I would have liked to go to that, but I had conflict on 6/13)

Sorry I didn't see this until now.

Robert Ranolph was great, as usual.

As for the 10th Anniversary IPA, I was very impressed with it. A really enjoyable, drinkable beer. It's heavy on both hops and malt. The sweetness of the malt cuts the bitter edge off, so it doesn't have the bite of your typical Double/Imperial IPA. It's not nearly as sweet as DH 120, but I think that's a good thing. 120 is too sweet for me as an "IPA." You might compare this to a DH 105min, if such a thing existed. Hopheads will appreciate it, but I think people who usually are turned off by big IPA's will enjoy Blue Point's take on it, as well.

It's going to be in limited release- on draft locally, and in 22oz. bottles only.

Neat bonus for the fest- everyone got a coupon for a free growler. Their tasting room is open Thurs-Sun for tastings and I think a tour is available, too.

The North Fork Craft Beer, BBQ, & Wine Festival, Saturday August 8th

http://www.northforkcraftbeerfestival.com/

I went to this last year, and it's a very nice festival.
It's out on the East End of LI, and set up outside on a vineyard.
Really a nice setting. Laid back- food, local wine, live music, and a lot of northeastern beer.
It's near the Mattituck LIRR stop.

Went to a Belgian Beer Fest last night. It was bad ass.

Some of my favorites, that I remember :

Affligem Blond
Brooklyn Local 1
Duvel Green (this is Duvel's light, crisp new sort of mass marketing beer, it was very refreshing)
Eurobrew's Brasserie du Bocq: Blanche de Namur
Wittekerke
Southampton Publick House's Double White
and a bunch of Unibroue's selections.

We tried a bunch of Saisons, too, and most were pretty good, but we had one that tasted black licorice, one that tasted like weed, and another that tasted like nail polish remover (if it could possibly taste good)

Underdog, given your quick jump past swill into the finer fruits of barley, I have a feeling that you will be liking Guinness in just a matter of time. Get a pint from a good pub (not just any ol' bar) because the taps will be fresh and the lines will be clean. Sit at the bar and order, and just let it sit for a minute while it "cascades." When you take that first sip, you can feel the malty-nuttiness in your taste buds and olfactory glands...
Man I want a pint right now. I wish I could be there with you.

Slainte,
SinA

A Proper Guinness will be 1 part NO2 and 3 parts CO2 on the pressure lines feeding the keg and it has a diffuser on the spigot that must be clean. When working properly....... Nirvana.
The thing you hear clinking around in those Guinness pub cans "tall boy" sold at finer beverage stores, is a nitrogen widget. (patented by Guinness but used by other English brands) will give you some of the same effect. SinA is correct though let it "rest" for a bit...then quaff.

http://constitutionclub.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/hopocalypse.jpg

Pretty much what you would think. Hops smacking you in the face. Which could be a good thing. Bright, bitter, piney, fresh, clean finish despite the strength of the hops. Sweet label, too.

http://www.anchorbrewing.com/images/promo_christmas.jpg

Once again, Anchor's Christmas Ale is amazing, dark, rich, not overly spiced like some Christmas themed ales try to be, just a solid, solid brew.

And the most beautiful thing to happen to beer in some time....

http://fatfrankies.com/frankiesays/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/life-and-limb.jpg

For those who didn't hear, Sam Caligione from Dogfish Head teamed up with Sierra Nevada's Ken Grossman to create this amazing beer, almost a stout, made with a portion of each company's secret yeast blend, along with other assorted goodies.

Story here... (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09322/1010705-478.stm)

DeKoninck is only a pale ale by name really. It has little in common with British and American pales. It is definitely a belgian beer. It is always described as the Budweiser of Belgium, but that is only due to the scope of its consumption. I believe it is hopped mainly with Saaz and maybe a touch of Styrian Goldings, and it definitely has some Belgian yeast character.

I wanted to go a for a month or so, but look at the line-up at one of my favorite haunts! (http://andyscornerbar.blogspot.com/)

I agree. Have you tried the Duvel Green? It's sort of a more accessible Duvel, but it's super smooth and delicious.

My favorite. It is actually the first real beer I tried and loved. Had one tonight, as well, in between a ton of La Chouffes.

Never tried or seen green for sale, but will immediately get it when I do.

Finished my kegerator on Sunday. It was surprisingly easy. The hardest part was just measuring to make sure we got the spots right for the taps.

Made my first orders for kegs today. 1/6 Keg of UFO White comes in Friday, 1/6 Keg of Allagash White comes in Tuesday. I also made a new friend at the liquor store. I think I was on the phone with him for 30 minutes just talking about beer. He went out of his way to get my first keg for me this week (I heard him call the beer rep on the phone while I was on the other line).

I get the CO2 filled tomorrow. I will have cold beer on tap Saturday. Oh fucking yeah.

It's a lot of fun. One thing about brewing Belgians is to invest a little money in ferment temp control; it is absolutely vital for developing the signature Belgian yeast characteristics.

A "bar" pint isn't really a pint at all. (Anymore) Check out the glass the next time you get a drink. That part at the bottom of the glass callled the "sham" has gotten bigger and bigger while the amount of beer gets smaller and smaller.

Not only that, a pint of beer is only a true pint if it is filled to the brim, if there is any head on your beer, you are getting less than a full pint.

I'm not sure, but imperial pint glasses might hold a bigger volume. All I know is the standard American pint glass sucks shingledicks. It's ugly and barely does it's job. At home, I pour everything into brandy snifters.

it doesn't show volumes, but here's a cool list of beer glasses and what beers are best to pour in them. If I've got a really good IPA or a stout at home, i prefer the goblet or snifter style glass as well.

It's odd that you mention Arrogant Bastard, I bought a 22 oz bottle last week by mistake. I reached for an Imperial Stout, was distracted and grabbed the wrong bottle. Didn't notice until I got home.

I didn't care for it, but I'm not one to judge pale ales, I hate anything that is too hoppy.
