View Full Version : Doo-Wop
Doo-wop and 50's music in general is the shit.
Anyone who doesn't like it is a faggot.
Discuss.

I'd love to discuss this but I just found out that I am a faggot and don't really know how to react to this new revelation about myself. Oh, I know, I'll listen to some Doo-Wop.

I'm not very well versed in doo-wop, but I do love Frank Zappa's Cruising with Ruben & the Jets album.

Hahahaha...
I had a couple of old timers come into the bar not too long ago and they told me about hanging out on the corners signing Doo-Wop... "Because that's what we did back in the 50's. Remember Jimmy? He was good. Had a little success too after getting a gig in the back room of Leonardo's. That's where all the big timers played. And over there was a drug store and this place was a grocery store. On the corner was Johnny Hops, who shined shoes and sold little bottles of hooch the men would pick up for the train ride into work. Over there was a Chinese laundry shop and the owner would throw his iron at us through the window when we made the Chinese "F-You" symbol with our hands. He smarted up after a few broken windows not to get angry and throw that iron! But at night we'd stand on the corners, and if it was cold, we'd have a fire burning in a metal barrel and we sang Doo-Wop, but that's all we had to do."
More or less that is what these guys told me. I could have listen to their stories for hours.
So yea, Doo-Wop is cool. It's American as jazz and rock n' roll. So all of you who slapped the ghey into this thread should be ashamed of yourselves. Ya dip-da-dip-da-dip-dips!!!

About 15 years ago I used to go to this classic car show in Parsipanny. It was held in the hotel next to the old Nabisco plant. Lots of great cars, antique booths, George Barris (creator of the Batmobile of other custom classics), Wolfman Jack impersonator, and random people gathering throughout the halls of the hotel singing Doo-Wop. My father says that's how it was growing up in late 50's Paterson, NJ. people singing on streetcorners. Beautiful music.

GVAC used to sing doo wop in the hallways and the corner in south philly. Its how he met Rocky Balboa... you know before he won the Championship from Apollo Creed.

sadly, when doo-wop died, alot of the old singers had to turn to adult films to pay the bills...
