It's set to release this weekend. I think I'm gonna get the Wii version. It won't have downloadable tracks initially, but they're supposed to be working on it. It has online play though.

I'm really looking forward to "Knights of Cydonia", "One", and "Suck My Kiss".

Comes out on Sunday, Oct. 28th, so I'll probably be at Wal-Mart drunk after a Halloween Party picking up a copy and a 5th guitar...

I'm wrestling with myself about whether to get this game. With work, spending time with my wife and daughter, books, comics, and tvs shows and movies that I need to catch up, it's hard to find time to play video games. I got Metroid Prime over a month ago and I think I'm only 10% of the way through the game.

Still because this game's so fun, I may break down and get it.

Have the XBOX360 version on pre-order... I like the leaderboards. Step up and try to beat me this time bitches. I still was not able to get where I wanted to on GHII due to pronto mangling my guitar a few times (gave up on fixing the wire the 3rd time), so I'm looking forward to wireless guitars.

I'd love to take you on, but I think my next console's gonna be a PS3. My dad has one, and I'm gonna get Rock Band for it when it comes out. Make Jeff buy that Wii .

I was reading the redoctane message board and it looks like no extra guitars initially

I heard that as well... but Amazon says:

This game comes bundled with the all-new Gibson Les Paul wireless guitar controller. The exclusive Gibson guitars include innovative features such as removable faceplates allowing fans to personalize their guitars making them their own, and a new button color design that will be integrated for an even greater authentic feel and rock experience.

Every console edition including the PS2 is coming with a wireless controller. For the wii, you dock the wiimote inside the front of the guitar.

XBox360

The release date for the PC/Mac edition is Nov. 12, and it's going to come with a wired USB guitar.

I'm boycotting this series until whatever needs to get done to get AC/DC's "Back In Black" on here gets motherfucking done.

And more Van Halen. REAL Van Halen. Not their goddamn cover songs. If an air guitar video game was made for any two bands in their prime, it's them.

From looking at the tracklist and how it looks from screenshots...I'll expect to be playing this for weeks to come.

My only question is this, Will my old guitar still work or do I have to get a new one? I can't find that answer anywhere....

Perhaps a little longer than that, Scott.

Old guitars will work for both the PS2 and the XBox 360. The new guitars have a detachable neck though for easy transport, and they're wireless.

Haven't gotten too deep in yet. In guitar battle, when you get hit with that whammy bar thing, what do you do? I'm a complete novice at this game, and I've been holding down the whammy bar and vibrating it back and forth, but it doesn't seem to fix it. The answer doesn't seem to be in the tutorial.

The game I'm really looking forward to is Rock Band. I don't really care that much about the extra instruments, but the song selection is fantastic.

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl" – Jet
"Black Hole Sun" - Soundgarden
"Blitzkrieg Bop" – Ramones
"Brainpower" – Freezepop
"Celebrity Skin" – Hole
"Cherub Rock" – Smashing Pumpkins
"Creep" – Radiohead
"Dani California" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Detroit Rock City" - Kiss
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" – Blue Öyster Cult
"The Electric Version – The New Pornographers
"Enter Sandman" – Metallica
"Epic" – Faith No More
"Flirtin' With Disaster" – Molly Hatchet
"Foreplay/Long Time" – Boston
"Gimme Shelter" – Rolling Stones
"Go with the Flow" – Queens of the Stone Age
"Green Grass and High Tides" – The Outlaws
"The Hand That Feeds" – Nine Inch Nails
"Here It Goes Again" – OK Go
"Highway Star" – Deep Purple
"I Think I'm Paranoid" – Garbage
"In Bloom" – Nirvana
"Learn to Fly" – Foo Fighters
"Main Offender" – The Hives
"Maps" – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"Mississippi Queen" – Mountain
"Orange Crush" – R.E.M.
"Paranoid" – Black Sabbath
"Pleasure (Pleasure)" – Bang Camaro
"Reptilia" – The Strokes
"Sabotage" – Beastie Boys
"Say It Ain't So" – Weezer
"Should I Stay or Should I Go" – The Clash
"Suffragette City" – David Bowie
"Tom Sawyer" – Rush
"Vasoline" – Stone Temple Pilots
"Wanted Dead or Alive" – Bon Jovi
"Wave of Mutilation" – Pixies
"Welcome Home" – Coheed and Cambria
"Won't Get Fooled Again" – The Who

Much better than what was on Guitar Hero 2 if you ask me. Even the songs I'm not crazy about sound like they'll be really fun to play. I don't even own an Xbox, and I'm excited.

I have the opposite problem with the Wii. On my PS2 guitars, I could just move it a little and it would trigger. With the Wii, it feels like I have to tilt it all the way up.

I deviated from my usual approach this time, and started playing Expert Career first instead of Hard. Got up to the second-to-last section before I had to tap out. I like the new timing though. Definitely easier to hit complicated passages. Almost too easy at times.

Monday afternoon, I was getting destroyed in Expert Pro-Faceoff mode. People were already playing the Cult of Personality solo perfectly. "People"... Make that kids who send you a message, "My dad made me turn it off. Let me know when you think you can beat me."

I love the way the game sounds, and having the master tracks is awesome. In practice mode, they even play the drum track when you slow it down.

They definitely made hammer-ons and pull offs easier. I always start on hard and work up to Expert. I'm having major issues on the Slayer song on Hard, so I've started working on Expert so I don't go crazy.

And yes, I've gotten my ass handed to me by 13 year olds on multiplayer already.

I find that if I leave a song thats pissing me off alone long enough and come back later, I'll magically beat it. I had such fucking issues with Institutionalized for some reason on GH3, and one day I just picked it up and beat it. The trills on the Slayer song are killing me.

I gave myself a 1 hour playing limit when I got GHII, and that's part of the reason why. I could play a song for 2 hours and not beat it, or play it a few times, and then come back and beat it the next day. I'm getting sick of everyone choosing One online. It's so long. I love to play Cliffs of Dover, Pride and Joy, Black Magic Woman, and one of the bonus tracks called Impulse. "Give me something with a melody, please!"

I've got a question about the whammy bar -- sometimes when I use it on long notes, I get an indication that it's adding to the star power level (because the color changes) and sometimes I don't. I'm completely unmusical, so there just may be a musical cue that I'm missing, but when do you have to use the whammy bar to increase your star power level?

I haven't tried it yet, but I think it just makes the song go by faster. It's good for your technique.

angrymissy
11-12-2007, 09:40 AM
The reason hyperspeed is good, is because the screen moves faster, and the notes are spaced further apart. So if you are having trouble with a solo, its useful to have hyperspeed because the the screen the notes won't be so close together

(goes to try Raining Blood w/ hyperspeed now)

I love how few people strum the first time they play (I was guilty of that too). "I'm pushing the buttons. Why isn't it working!"

I think they should include a "style" score. I hate when people strum every single hammer-on/pull-off. And people who let go of the button even though the next note is the same color. Isn't that all in the tutorial?

I just think it's funny to watch. The amount of time he spent getting good at that is silly. He could probably have been better at a real guitar in that amount of time.

Real instruments take FOREVER to learn to play well. Guitar Hero has definitely cut into my keyboard playing the last year, but so have a lot of other things. I need to get back in the practice habit.

Actually, if you look in the background of that video, you'll see a keyboard under the raised bunk.

There is apparently an issue with output not being in stereo with the Wii version. Check into it before you purchase, it looks like a remastered version will be available come February.

Thanks for the heads-up!
I've got my eye on a deal that is 1/2 retail, though. And Activision says they will replace the disc when the fix comes out.
Should I still do it?

I would probably do it, but just make sure to contact Activision directly first. I'd probably want to get a response by e-mail just so I'd have a hard copy of what they said.

On a side note, my chick just beat Slayer at 89%, which I think is insane. I tried it and totally flopped. She SOOOO crazy she is still playing it non-stop trying to get 5 stars...

I finally got it yesterday for the 360 with the wireless guitar. After about an hour of playing it looked like my HDTV was floating and my left hand was tired. But I'm getting better!

Downloaded the Foo Fighters pack, nice!

I know that pain. Broke my left wrist when I was a kid so I can't turn my arm fully to the left in order to hold the guitar the right way. I play for 30 minutes and I'm already sore. Holding the guitar upright helps, but then I go into star power mode automatically...I like to build that up.

I had the same problem when I started. Eventually your eyes get used to it and the screen doesn't float. The tutorial seems to be worse fr floating than the actual game though. Also, I was holding the buttons down really hard with my left hand and my fingers hurt as well when I started playing. You eventually adjust and adopt a lighter touch.

I didn't know about how the game can screw up your vision when I bought GHI (they've done something to 3 and RB that makes it not as bad as GHI).

When I played for an hour and stopped the wall was warping and moving and I was panicking that I was either losing my mind, having a stroke, or an acid flashback. Thank god for the internets, I was able to see it was a side effect of the scrolling notes.

I had the same thing happen when played GH2. If I'd play like 3 songs in a row, esp. if they were those long southern rock songs, then look at my computer screen, it would be all warbly. I'd stop long enough for ti to go away before playing my next song.

Did these flashbacks cause you to steal the cupcakes?

From IGN:

"Peace of Mind" as performed by Boston, "Juke Box Hero" as performed by Foreigner, and "Any Way you Want it" as performed by Journey are now rockable in the game (for a 500 MS-point cover charge, of course).

Sweet.

I have GH 1,2,3 for PS2.... I play with my chick when we get the chance. She's actually really good at it, it turns me on to watch her play and challenge me.

She kicks my ass on it but then I take it out on her Cu....what?

Do they honestly expect people to pay full price for a game that just contains one band's music? Sound to me like they are desperate and don't know how to beat the rising phenomenom that is Rock Band.

I think they are gonna start releasing games like this, I heard of a U2 one possible, but their is other music too:

"We'll also get a chance to play songs that influenced the band."

Great, so all Aerosmith and probably a bunch of songs that no one has ever heard of. Let me fork over my $60 right now.
