From Mythbusters:

Austin Powers in Goldmember: A car can be equipped with a discreet ejector seat.

Plausible

A pneumatic ejector seat fitted into a boxy Toyota car seemed to fool most of the people who inspected it, and the seat successfully launched a test dummy out of the car. However, the design of the car plays a huge role in concealability, which is why Jamie and Adam opted for a roomier, boxier car rather than one of the flashy and sleek sports cars often seen in spy movies. Sports cars have windshields that extend partially over the front seats, making it difficult for an ejector seat to properly launch without hitting the frame.

yes, but do modern army guys eject if they are being shot down?

Well Army guys should have no business flying planes so they have no reason to be ejecting.

But to answer your first question in this thread. Yes ejection seats are still used. And one of the first things we needed to do before we did ANY maintanance on any jet was to make sure that the pins were in that prevented accidental firing of the ejection seat. Nothing like rocketing at 200 mph with a concrete ceiling about 30 feet over your head.

One of the things that makes or break if the pilots would fly for the day at Kadena AB (in Japan) was the sea conditions. If the waters were too choppy the pilots didnt fly in case they did have to bail. The rescue operation would be hindered as a result of the seas. Early in 2006, a jet from the other squadron (the 44th; I was in the 67th fighting cocks) had a pilot that did have to ditch his aircraft into the sea so, yes, his ejection seat did work.

A couple of months later another jet developed mechanical difficulties and had a hard landing on the deck (aka the runway.) He didnt eject but the jet was down for a good 8 months. The one I mentioned in the previous paragraph was lost. And you can goddamn bet the reviewers were doing everything in their power to blame the maintainers and not the pilot.

Here is the video I am talking about:

What would pilots use otherwise?

So what would be the point of them wearing parachutes?

Yeah, even the Apaches have ejection seats. Sounds kooky with the whirling blades of death just above them, but the rotors are blown away from the aircraft before the canopy blows and the seats eject.

Actually I believe some of the helicopter ejection seats propel the pilot(s) outward sideways as opposed to upward.

But to question the notion of do 'modern army guys' use ejection seats is just silly.

will my flying car have an ejection seat?

A friend of mine had to eject from a Marine Harrier after engine troubles while landing/taking off a carrier. It jacked his back up, he had compression fractures in his vertebrae. I think he is actually shorter now. He had to go thru all sorts of investigations as to why he bailed out of multi million dollar airplane.

So, yes they do.

The AIDS-infected Viet Cong soldier that repeatedly sodomized him in the POW camp was wearing a condom.
