Tonight I went to a wedding in Staten Island and my niece lent me her Garmin nuvi (330). I never used one of these things before and it really amazed me how easy it was and it helped me big time. Does anyone else use these things? Whats the best unit forthe money and whats a good price for one?
I just saw a Garmin nuvi on eBay for $375, but since I do not know much about it and it is kind of expensive I was wondering if it is a good deal.
Any other brands you recommend? The only thing that was kind of strange is that I was going from Long Island and it had me go though the LIE to the BQE and I was in a bit of traffic and usually I would have taken the Cross Island to the Belt to the Varranzano. But it got me home no problem and I didnt even have to look for signs.

its the Garmin Nuvi 360
dont know how much it costs, seeing as i bought it from a shady black guy who was hanging out in the mall parking lot for 100 dollars even. all it came with was the mount though. kinda weird, but i ask no questions.

its worked great so far. does everything you expect and would want it to do, highly recommended if its in your price range

For the car, use a Tom Tom. It's about 200-250 bucks depending on the features.

For off road and hiking, use a Magellan eXplorist.

I wish I could find a shady black guy now!

Do you need to know how to read German to use it?

It's Garmin and they don't make this one anymore.

Whatever you buy, I recommend Garmin.

Tom Tom's work really great and are very easy to use. Buy the one you get at a place like best buy and if you don't like it, take it back and buy a different one. I highly suggest the tom tom.

I have this unit and I love it. It is very easy to use touch screen operation. I don't use the mount because the foldable back thing slides into the ac vent (as long as the vent is horizontal). You can find it for like 400 on Amazon. Also look into the Garmin Nuvi 350 Amazon has it for 367.

My father has the Magellan and he likes it, and I looked at the set up and it seemed kind of awkward, and it was a lot bulkier than the nuvi. I'm not sure of the model. The nuvi is like a small digital camera size. The Tom Tom looks cool too. I am maybe only leaning towards the nuvi because I used it last night. Maybe the Tom Tom's easier? Either way it saved me a lot of grief because I could concentrate on driving while not needing to look for signs.

whichever you go with, i'd suggest looking on ecost (http://www.ecost.com/). their normal prices are ok, but they always have sales on gps units. you can sign up for their hot sheet (newsletter with sales on it) and get some really good deals on the units.

myself, i've been leaning towards getting a tom tom.

I have no use for a GPS unit.
The only place I go is to work and back.
I think I know the way by now.

the thing i dont understand about these GPS units is this, we all figured out where we were going before we had these things, right? so why do we need them now? My roommate got a Tom Tom before we moved down to florida, just so he could learn his way around here. It certainly served it's purpose for the first month or so, but now the thing just lays around our coffee table and he barely ever uses it. why spend several hundred dollars on a thing that's somewhat unneccesary? especially when you can just buy a road map or look stuff up for free on mapquest.

It's because people think it's "cool" to have one.

Look at me, I have the newest in technology, "I'm cooler than you!"

Out of all the people that own one, a very small percentage of those people actually
need one for work and what not. The other ones only have it just to say that they have it.
