I just read the New Thor #3 and he totally beat Iron Man's ass and was super pissed at him for using his DNA to clone a Thor. It made me think Hulk kicked this guys ass, Thor beat his ass, everyone treats this guy like shit. He must be ready to get his heat back soon. I mean I never liked the guy but I see Iron Man kicking some serious ass in the future. Is there a big storyline planned for him?

Thor's a god. Of course, he's going to kick Iron Man's ass. Same with the Hulk, he should be able to kick Iron Man's ass.

I havent read comics on a regular basis in a long long time, but when did Tony Stark become such an asshole ?
I know he was an alchoholic, he wasn't the most like-able Avenger and all, but lately every conspiracy or bad thing coming up, he's somehow in the middle of it like he's gonna be the new major criminal mastermind or something.

I'm worried that is going to be the cop-out for a lot of Marvel stuff.

Check out Marvel: Civil War and some of the related series. It'll explain what happened

Oh, it's going to be the magic cure-all for soooooo much shit. I'll bet they use it to fix Spidey going public with his sceret ID...they'll have him spin it that it was actually a Skrull then and NOT really Spider-Man and Peter Parker, who he'll somehow trick everyone into thinking are different people. Maybe he'll borrow some of Superman's duplicate robots.

Ick, I like the idea of Secret Invasion but I think it would be best left out of the other stories. I hate when one story is used to clean up another....meh.

Its a very sloppy move, like Superboy Prime punching the universe.

Isn't that why there's a Hulk Buster armor for Iron Man?

Isn't Spidey going thru some sort of fantasy/time travel/whatever story right now? (Haven't read it, so don't know the details)

Yes, and when you read World War Hulk when it comes to trades, you'll see how that went.

I don't think so, although I don't read all Spidey stories. The last bunch of Spidey books have been him dealing with the consequences of Civil War. Not to say he hasn't done some time travel or fantasy stories.

Yeah, I'll catch up with the Hulk trades next year...
And what is the current Spidey storyline. One More Day or something like that.

Yeah, he's trying to figure out how to save Aunt May who was shot by a sniper hired by Kingpin.
I think an issue came out last week, that I haven't received yet, and given what One More Day's about, maybe he tries to go back in time in that issue. I don't know.

Only about 10 years or so have passed in the universe.
The problem is that she's been sick for almost all of that time, and has been close to death, with Spidey trying to find a way to save her, at least 3 times.

I haven't read #400 since it came out, but I'm going to check it out again, on the CD-Rom I have. My memory was that it was a great issue, with May telling Peter that she's known for quite awhile that Peter was Spidey.

Great issue...fantastic writing and beautiful art. One of the few bright points during the whole "clone saga," and one of the few that really highlighted that Ben Reilly was actually a very sympathetic and likeable character that Marvel totally dropped the ball with. Him having to deal with "his" aunt's death seperate from everyone else outside on the roof was heartbreaking.
And was Mysterio involved in Aunt May's return? I thought he was already randomly killed by Kevin Smith over in Daredevil. I thought the whole thing was masterminded by Norman Osborn.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong and it's Norman, but if you check the books, Kevin killed Mysterio then he appeared in a Spidey book because no one told the Spidey editors, so then they made a storyline about him faking his own death or something.

I did some quick Wikipedia research, which didn't really help clear things up. The Mysterio that showed up so soon after he seemingly died in Daredevil was revealed to be a different person, despite his initial dialogue that does indeed contrast with him having just died...definitely looks like the editors screwed up. The original Mysterio is apparently also maybe back in some kind of mystical form, but that was described as being relatively recent...much later after Aunt May showed up alive and well.
It wouldn't surprise me if they shoehorned Myserio in as someone hired to hold Aunt May hostage and fool Peter, but the overall plot, I'm 99.9% sure, was all Norman. They retconned EVERYTHING about Spidey over the previous 3-4 years...his parents coming back, Chameleon knowing who is, the return of the Jackal, the clones, the Traveler & Scrier bullshit...it was all chalked up to Norman...which just sums up the futility of the whole Clone Saga. The staff had dug themselves in so deep and made everything so complex (partially due to multiple writers having their own ideas as to how everything would play out, many of these ideas being very good, but then everything getting mashed together by editorial demands to draw the story out since it was, incredibly, selling VERY well) that they eventually had no choice but to make it the work of some huge mastermind like Norman Osborn...and granted, Osborn is the perfect villain to be THE villain behind it all...but you just can't get arund that his character had exited the series decades prior in one of the best Spidey story arcs of all time. And that lead to the (initially) great Hobgoblin storyline and all the really well done psychodrama with Harry Osborn...all of it effectively deflated by revealing that Norman just "got better" and was hiding in Europe.
In the end, I actually really like how he's been dealt with since. I like how he was made a public enemy...I love the stuff with him running the Thunderbolts and his role in Civil War...but I just cannot get the past that he is one of those characters that NEEDS to be dead. His being alive unravels so much stuff that has become essential to Spider-Man's mythos over the last 40 years. And J. Michael Straczynski's reveal that Norman boinked Gwen Stacy back in the day and she had his twins? Ridiculous soap operatic, even for a comic book, and completely reprehensible and totally out of sync for ALL the characters involved. Quite possibly THE lowpoint in Spider-Man's history, and that's saying something.
Oh, and if anyone wants to read a really long but really interesting breakdown of the break down of the Clone Saga, check out this site. (http://www.newcomicreviews.com/GHM/specials/LifeOfReilly/)

Yeah, Spidey editorial has had some serious issues for a while now. Bringing back Norman, Gwen Stacy's kids (you KNOW Straczynsky wanted to bring back Gwen), adding a supernatural element to Spidey, etc.
I'll stick to Ultimate Spidey.

The sad thing is, Stracalylnssnsalszy's run started off as one of the best the character had seen in a long time...then he went batshit with the "spider totem" crap and it was all downhill from there.

I agree. I couldn't get enough of it. Even the first totem arc was really well done, but it really fell apart. I bailed long before The Others, so I don't know the outcome of the totem crap, but even the guy in my comic store told me not to buy it.

Yeah, his first go at it was fine. The weird vampire dude, leading to another great "Spidey has to go it alone against insane odds story," and Ezekial was really well written in the first arc. He should have just left it there. But his writing of Peter Parker and his "voices" for the characters, especially the smartass Spider-Man, was the best the character has seen probably since Peter David's run in the 80's.

Marvel also has a very good database at Marvel.com under "Comic Universe." Want to know about Iron Man, just search for Iron Man. Want to know about the X-Men? Just look.

I find wikipedia.org (http://wikipedia.org/) is a great place to catch up. Search for the character(s) you are interested in and read up on the major plot points.
I have had to keep track of comics from a distance - they are like crack for me and I can't afford the habit anymore. Wikipedia and the discussions on this site have helped me keep my jones at bay.
