View Full Version : A-Rod vs. Jeter: What people aren't getting

Everyone and their mother is writing in their sports columns about how you cannot solely blame A-Rod for the Yankees post-season woes and that Jeter hit into a bunch of double plays during the 2007 ALDS.
There's only one huge problem that a lot of people are overlooking.
The biggest thing about A-Rod is that he's in the contract year and wants a raise. Jeter, on the other hand, is going to retire as a Yankee.
This isn't about true Yankees or anything like that.
Let me give you a real world corollary:
All through the fiscal year, your team at your company has been doing good things. it's time for the National Sales Meeting, where your team will be handling a presentation.
During the presentation, nothing goes right. Charts are wrong, the powerpoint is screwed up, and one of the guys on your team is hung over.
Now, there are reprecussions from this: The manager of the team might lose his job because he's ultimately responsible for the presentation at the National meeting. But none of the underlings will get in trouble.
However, about 2 weeks after the National Sales meeting, the guy who did the most work on the team but showed up to the presentation hung over marches into the Boss's office and demands a raise.
See where I'm going with this?
I don't solely hold A-Rod responsible for this. And if the Yankees want to extend his contract but still keep the Rangers on the hook, then fine. But if A-Rod opts out, then I don't want to deal with him and I wash my hands of it.

The heat always falls on A-Rod, for reasons unknown, but the bottom line is: Jeter killed the Yankees in this post-season. Shelley Duncan and Johnny Damon on the corners with The Stadium ROCKING and Perez visibly shaking in his boots... and he hits into his 3rd double play of the series.
I love the guy, always will. He's still a clutch hitter in my eyes, and I'll never forget what he's done. But the bottom line is, he murdered our offense in these last 4 games.

How about the rest of the team pick up some slack for a guy who carried them there? Jeter is the captain? He is Mr Clutch or Captain Clutch right? Well then he needs to pick it up when the others fall short.
Im so tired of everyone always finding a reason to blame Arod. Without Arod the yanks do not make the playoffs this year and maybe not 2005 either. Arod has been awful since game 4 of the 2004 ALCS but so has the entire Yankee team. They are all to blame for the biggest choke job in sports history (2004 ALCS) The entire team also lost the 1st round of the playoffs the last 3 years, not arod the whole team including "Captain Double Play".

DID EITHER OF YOU READ MY POST?
I'm not blaming A-Rod. I'm just putting heat on him for asking for a RAISE after having a bad playoff performance. There's a DIFFERENCE, read before you post.

You wouldn't accept a raise if numerous companies were offering you one? Grow up.

You people in NY can pin the blame on whomever you want. I'm praying to the God of Baseball that the giants pick up A-rod. We don't have that Barry Bonds contract anymore, lets get A-ROD!!!!!!!!!
West Coast A-rod fan since day 1!

yes I did and it seems you were having a problem with all the arod vs jeter converstaions on a lot of sites, boards, newspapers or wherever? It also seemed like you are saying people that are bashin Jeter are wrong because..... And what I was saying is Jeter has as much blame if not more.
As for a player asking for a raise. He deserves it. If it wasnt for him then they would not be there! If the team doesnt want to give him a "raise" Then they dont have to someone else will.

Yeah, how he dare he ask for a boost after an insanely great and epic regular season. Nope, it's the extremely limited and tiny sample size of playoff performances over the last 3 years where basically the entire team has collapsed each time that should dictate how he negotiates his deals. That makes complete sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if ARod ends up out west on the Angels, or even maybe on the Dodgers...but there's no way he goes to the Giants. They're nowhere near close to competing and they've just lost Bonds. The only way he goes there is if he only cares about the money and they blow everyone else out of the water with their offer.

150+ rbis / 50+ hrs, and can play a solid SS or 3rd says he gets a raise if he wants one. How many MVPs will he be up to after 07? Come on, you love to rationalize some stupid shit matty.

there is nothing is as sweet and predictable, as the sound of yankee fans trying to figure out why they just can't get the job done. blame the league MVP, blame the captain, blame the coach, or blame it on bugs. the answer is glaringly obvious....no heart. i'll say it with you...."no heart".

Honestly, the rif bt Arod and Jeter can't help the team dynamic. I don't care how much they say they like each other, ex gay lovers always get catty and never let things go. Ask me about the Fallon / Snoogans breakup.

I don't understand the Yankee fans that bitch about ARod's contract. For starters he didn't make the Yankees sign that deal. The Yankees traded for him and his huge contract, stop acting innocent in this. You wanted the big contract guy, you were happy when you got him. Stop with the he makes 25 mil he needs to do more. Jeter makes close to 20 mil a year and he sucked the biggest dick of any of them in the playoffs. And like someone said earlier. Why would you turn down that much money. Hicks threw it at him, and he would have been an asshole to not take it.
