Can we add Billy Martin and BDC to that list? Both have the same liveliness and with the big A coming for George we all know (as stated in the nyy playoff thread) he may try to dig up Billy.

It should be Joe Girardi, but something tells me it will be Donnie Baseball or ......

Torre AGAIN. Something tells me they will bring him back. They shouldnt but they might! The only way I think Torre is definitely fired is if its done fast, like in the next 3-5 days. If he isnt fired and its November then I think he wont get fired.

it is kind of early to be thinking about this for me, but here is what I think

Torre moves to the Front office

Bowa manages, Donnie stays as bench coach, girardi coaching 3rd

all this subject to change by tomorrow as I think about it more

but he has no experience, why would you want him to manage? Its not like he was even a catcher and knows how to call a game. He hasnt even managed a little league team. Girardi deserves the job.

There is no way in hell Girardi takes a yankee demotion to coach third. No chance. He should come coach first base for the NJ Jackals for Christ's sake! Nick must be out of it, anything go wrong on tv or something!? :innocent:

Bowa took the job as a 3b coach

I think they would look at Bowa as a temp coach for 2-3 years while they groom either mattingly or Girardi for the job.

because anything from philly sports is alergic to championships, so he couldnt get a job. Even McNabb was allergic, thats why he puked. You cant win even with bowa stayin at 3rd. Its like getting testicular cancer and sayin ahh, maybe it wont spread, ill just leave it there

Groom Girardi? He has the experience and has shown himself to be a good manager whereas Bowa was being run out of town. Big difference bt the two and I'd be truly surprised if he took anything less then the HC job. They talked him out of Baltimore's job in my mind saying that he's a sure fit very soon. This is the year if you ask me.

ok, to answer your question, I just like Mattingly's demeanor better, and I think he deserves the shot. He's Don Mattingly, for gods sake, and I think he'd be inspirational and do a fine job. But if you read on, and please do so here, I do believe Girardi has the better shot and is better qualified all around.

Amazing that Torre makes it to the playoffs 12 years in a row, may win the manager of the year award and will probably get fired. I used to be a huge sports fan, but I've stopped because of nonsense like this. For all the moaning and bitching that fans do about player loyalty, they have NO loyalty to their players/coaches. There are 29 other teams all vying for the same title, you will not win every year. You will go a decade without winning. Arbitrarily blaming an insanely successful manager is pointless.

All he's done is had them in the playoffs 12 straight years.

Do you know of any other tenured, long-term manager that needs to have rules put on him on how to properly use a rookie pitching prospect? Mainly because he doesn't know how to manage a bullpen properly?

Joe has served us well, and he's a good person. But it's time for a change.

I don't know if the way Chamberlain was treated this year was necessarily a good thing, that is debatable and will be proved in the future. And I'm not saying the guy is a great manager, to be honest I've disagreed with SO MANY moves he's made, but you can't argue with the guys record. Why do you think he's going to win the manager of the year award? Do you think the team played over their heads this year? I totally do, payroll and all. They had many issues, but still won the wild card and made a run at the AL East.

There is NO FUCKING WAY he should get manager of the year. As Snacks has stated multiple times before, the team shouldn't have had to come back as it did. Hey, I think the guy from Cleveland should win it, but I was reading sports illustrated and I think Peter King (maybe another writer) picked Torre as manager of the year.

Also, 200 million dollar payroll and all... the team had several gaping holes. Notably on the pitching end and DH (.422 SLG at DH, terrible).

Oh come on, now let's play this game with the Indians, Rockies and Diamonbacks. And their not covering up a ton of million dollar contracts like Pavano and Giambi, they start with their in-house guys bc they don't really have the option the yanks do. I'd pick any of those managers right now over Torre. Hell I'd pick Lou too bc he took the cubs from last to first in one year (albeit with huge signings and winning the worst division in baseball).

I agree that those teams were well-managed as well. I'd take a handful of guys over Torre too, but people are somehow assuming Torre will be replaced with a mythically perfect manager. Getting rid of Torre is one thing, replacing him with someone better is another. With guys like Girardi and Mattingly you are taking a HUGE risk, Torre is more of a sure thing. Is Lou available? Is Wedge available? Is Francona available? And honestly, would it be worth the risk? If Wedge was managing the Yankees and Torre the Indians would the result have been different?

This is not a last place team being disruspted by a bad manager. This is a team that has made the playoffs 12 years in a row and failed this year because of shotty pitching in the ALDS by their ace and poor performances by stellar offensive players. Were Torre's decisions what lead to their demise in the ALDS? I thought he correctly pulled Wang quickly in Game 4, put out the best line-up available each game and handled the bullpen well. I may have pulled Joba once he showed signs of being shaken by the elements in Cleveland, but is that worth firing?

In short... I think calling for Torre to be fired is overreacting.

You're going back and fourth on topics now. My comment was aimed towards your notion that Torre is a candidate for manager of the year, not that the yanks could or should bring those guys in to NY. Not only would most decline, it's totally a different argument.
