Inspired by storylines from the 4400...

If there was a shot you could take that would give you super powers, would you take it?

Before you decide, there are two things you need to know:

1) There is a 50% chance after you take the shot, you will die. There is no way to tell if the shot will kill you or not unless you actually take the shot.

2) You have no control over what super power you get. You could get a cool power like flight or super strength, you could get a lame power like the ability to talk to bunnies or the ability to sense bread, or you could end up with a really bad power like being a plague carrier that kills anyone you come in proximity with.



So with all that, if someone offered you the shot, would you take it?

Most likely? No, it's even odds you live or die. And there's no percentages to cool vs lame powers. It's possible everyone gets cool powers and no one gets bad ones. Except Raaamone and his bunnies.


And personally, no. I wouldn't risk a 50% shot at death to get a super power.

My initial inclination is YES! However, I also have a baby daughter that I don't want to leave fatherless. I have ALWAYS wanted super powers, so I am really leaning toward yes, but now that I have a kid I don't know.

It kind of depends on if taking the shot would count as suicide if I died, thus negating any life insurance money my family would get. It might be worth the risk if my family will be taken care of.

And if anybody caught the season finale, there is a possibility that they are going to be able to create a test that will determine who will die if they take the shot.

Completely random. If you survive the shot, you're playing powers roulette. You could gain a healing factor or you could gain an enhanced sense of smell.

I don't know. But I do know that if people started to get superpowers and it was kind of known/accepted and I was stuck being the worthless human I am, it would probably thrust me into a pretty severe lifelong depression. I honestly can't imagine ever being happy knowing that there were people out there with superhuman abilities while I had none. And it's not even that I'm a particularly jealous person, just that something like that would kill me.

I think that some of us are looking at it as ANY power is a cool power. Simply having an ability that nobody else (or very few people) on Earth has makes it cool in-and-of itself. Sure, you REALLY want super strength, flight, heat vision or something else of that "stature," but an enhanced sense of smell or the ability to grow your fingernails long can be cool too.

A power is what you make it - sometimes you just have to be creative.

I wouldn't take the shot, too much risk for not enough reward. Now if you still had the 50% survival rate but you got to pick the superpower...well, then I'd have some thinking to do.
