The replica jersey thread inspired this thread. I found this website that takes pictures of everyday people who wear Jersey's of players that are long gone. It was kind of funny, check it out and send the pictures to post.

Watching the game last night, there was a kid, about 22 years old, who was wearing a Mattingly 23 Jersey. I asked him, "ya like Mattingly lad?" he says yes. I said, "was he a lefty or righty?" he shook his head. Then I asked him, "what was his number?" The kid said "20 something"... IT WAS ON THE BACK OF HIS FAKE JERSEY and he still didnt know.
I told him to go get a Jeter jersey like everyone else.

that is my favorite question when asking "new" yanks fans or people who think they are knowledgeable about baseball and or the yanks. The funny thing in they never know that he was a lefty.
Some old jersey's are fine. Like wearing a Mattingly jersey because he was a yankee for life and hes that type of player. I would never have a problem with someone wearing a Bonds SF Jersey, Marino football jersey, Emmitt Smith Cowboy jersey etc. Those players and many other "franchise" type players will always sell.

well, I never said we were smarter, but if thats your stance, thanx.
But you have to admit, the Yankees have more "bandwagon" fans than any other team, simply because they have more championships, and people want to route for a winner. And no, bandwagon fans, in general, do not know baseball.

I think every team has their own "charity", which is why the Jimmy Fund gets so much play. And of course ALS is because of Schilling. I would assume they put a lot of money towards other charities, as well.
Not to mention that MLB had a Breast Cancer Awareness day when everyone had those pink bats. That's a lot of play.

no offense to anyone who has had breats cancer or has a family member with it (my cousin just had both removed)
There is more then enough charities that support and donate money to breast cancer. Cancer probably collects the most of all charities. Boston choosing to give their money to other charities shouldnt be questioned. Even if they give all to just one charity they dont need to give to others and trust me Susan G Kolman foundation is hurting for money.
Now with all the money these charities receive I would love to see it actually do something! My cousin had no insurance at the time of her surgery and you know what sh got from these cancer foundations? $50 to help her pay her bills. Thats nice!
Id rather pick a person and donate my money directly to people rather then give money to a charity and have it pay employees, organizers, the president of the charity etc. By the time the money gets where its suppose to be its gone. It also seems like the people who need it most never get it or get very little.
