Ronnie brought it up on the show today that Mike the Teacher wrote an article about the 50th Anniversary launch of Sputnik. You would have of figured with the end of the cold war, the joint missions, etc there would be a major public affairs push. But nothing. It is sad that 50 years later when one of the greatest achievements of mankind is brushed off as if someone is getting a tick bath. God, we really are in the age of mediocrity arent we.
Doesnt anyone realize that the launching of this simple Ham radio revolutionized us in a way that we are listening to satellite radio today. Can watch the Super Bowl no matter the time zone. Hell, have MLB games delayed to accomodate for the west coast fans. It was this event, in conjuntcion with the launching of Yuri Gagarin that was a catalyst to our youngest elected president to one up that. Put a man on the moon by 1969, and we did. As a result of that we earned the knowledge and technology today that allows us to bitch about it on the internet. Goddamn am I pissed this is a passed over event.
Well for you Solnitchya Sputnik this is for you bro:
