I've started selling burned dvds at work, and people have been having trouble playing them. I was using imation dvds, and from what I've read, those are no good. I also have been using paper sticker labels, again I read that's no good either because it throws off the rotation of the disc. My DVD player plays them fine at home, one even plays the ones I accidentally encoded in PAL. But the ones I burned for others either can't be read at all, freeze, or skip. Seems like playstation 2's play them perfectly however. I'm using Nero Vision 4 to burn them.

Anyone know :

A. Best DVD+ or - R's? single layer is fine
B. Best DVD authoring software (I'm not too happy with the features in Nero)
C. Cheap way to label them besides markers that doesn't interfere with playback.
D. Speed at which to burn (I max out at 20x)
E. Does process priority matter?
F. Does it effect anything, if the original video file (avi) is located on an external USB drive?

Thanks.

i don't condone selling the stuff but to just answer some questions

I just use a black sharpie to label dvds
I burn actually at the lowest speed possible or around 4x as i find you get less errors the faster it goes the more likely the harddrive or disc will mess up.
I have never burned an avi file all have been iso so no idea about that one.

I too do not agree with "selling" these things you speak of. I "back-up" my DVD movies using several different programs including occasionally NERO. Some that I recommend are 1. RipIt4Me (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipIt4Me) 2. ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) and 3. DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html).

I also burn at around 4x speed. My parents have an ancient DVD player with 3 trays and the burned dvd's don't play in 1 of the trays for whatever reason, but I've never had a problem on any other player that I know of.

Since you're making money off of these :nono:, I'll be sure to send you a bill for my services!

A. Stick to DVD-R discs for best compatibility.

B. Are you really authoring DVDs (menus, chapters, etc.), or just simply making copies? I use DVD Shrink (or Nero Recode) to shrink my DVDs down to DVD-5. For custom jobs (like avi conversions), I'll either make a disc without any menus using TMPGEnc DVD Author, and for menus and AC-3 soundtracks, I'll use DVD-Lab Pro. The first few jobs are a bitch, but once you get a few basics down, you'll hate using anything else.

C. Labels? Really? Tell 'em to go buy retail if they want labels!

D. I usually just burn at max speed and don't have any problems.

E. It shouldn't. Unless you're defragging your hard drive while you're burning, modern hard drives are more than able to keep up with DVD drives.

F. No. Doesn't matter where the data comes from, as long as it all arrives intact.

I'm not judgemental but selling pirated DVD's is for scumbags, and by scumbag I mean the reservoir part of the condom that holds cum.

Use DVD+R only and burn at max speed for best results.

Some players won't accept certain types of DVD's. My main player won't accept DVD+'s for some reason, even though it accepts every other form of DVD and CD (including SACD's and DVD-Audio). Another player won't take DVD-'s, while a $30 cheapo I have in my bedroom will play anything.
