Today while watching The Simpsons, I saw a commercial for an upcoming movie called The Comebacks which seems to be another Epic Movie, post-Wayans Scary Movie, Date Movie load of horse shit spoof movies, this time spoofing sports movies. And of course, it doesn't have any sort of intelligence, it just follows the same standard of throwing as many scenes from other crappy movies in as possible.
And this current trend is for parody movies to simply take scenes from other movies and copy them practically verbatim, maybe throw in a lame hacky joke or already-too-old pop culture reference in there that makes no sense unless you've seen the original movie. And there are more coming.
What was the last decent parody movie? Movies like Airplane and Naked Gun worked because they parodied the genre, they might throw in some reference to a pre-existing movie here or there but that wasn't even the main jokes in those movies and their still damned funny today. And that's why I'm looking forward to Walk Hard which seems to be spoofing the genre of 'musical biopic' rather than spoofing the individual movies of that genre.
