Ha...you done stoled my line. Well now we have to see if Torre is fired. I dont know; 12 seasons, 12 playoff appearances, 10 times leading the AL East. 4 World Series, 3 in a row. That is quite an impressive resume. Only behind McCarthy and Stengel in Yankee history. Going to be an interesting off season now that Joe might go.

I don't care how much you rag on my Phillies.
Our Payroll is 89 million and some change.
Your payroll is 195 million.
Even if you doubled our payroll, you still overpaid us by 16 million.
And all that extra cash bought your Yankees one more game in the Playoffs then us.

I have to say that firing Joe would be a BS move. 12 consecutive post-season appearances aren't done by players alone.
Joe is arguably one of the best skippers out there. At least the best in the AL.

I agree. Joe is part of that older style of management, and their are parts of that management that isnt reported in the papers. Sometimes the papers anymore are filled with fluff to make the manager look like and idiot. But to go from a dreadful start for the Yanks to get to the playoffs, that is management for the most part. I was reading about Gil Hodges, and I see some elements in Torre when I read about Hodges when he was a manager. Dont fire Joe, build around those kids and lose the fat of the budget.

Hell I want him back with the Phils. Firing Larry and bringing in Manuel was a dick move by the "we want a yes-man" front office.
If it were Larry at the helm, we might have gone as far as the Yankees. But it's still the goddamned bullpen. Year after year after year.

Which is why George is an asshole for treating him the way he does. Hell, I think the bulk of yank fans have no respect for what he has done. When Cito did what he did with the Jays, he was given a ton of room. Now that's not to say they would keep him forever, but he was definitely handled with the upmost respect. Joe deserves nothing less and did a whole lot of good in New York. Even yankee haters like myself show more respect for the guy and want nothing more than to hate the guy. Like Posada, I just have trouble hating the guy.
As with Marty in SD, you don't know what you have until it's gone. Would Girardi or Mattingly turn the last two seasons around like Joe? I doubt it. I know they might not have gotten to that point, but what type of clout will either or any new manager have when George or Cashman want to fuck up the chemistry or pick up another aging arm? Be careful what you ask for. Yet even after all that, I think the time has come. Out with Joe and bye bye Arod. You'll miss them both severely!

Go start it for me. WAY too soon for me.
I was at the game, the crowd was taken out of it almost immediately and by the middle innings it felt like a morgue. The two runs Moose gave up in the 4th were an absolute back breaker. You knew they have the 2 Rafael's to go two innings a piece, plus Borowski to close. All they needed was 5 decent innings from Byrd, and they got it.
Thank you Joe Torre for 12 memorable years. I wanted him gone as much as anyone, but he's a good man and shouldn't be kicked on his way out.

I blame Arod for making Jeter hit into all those DPs..
my favorite post ever in this thread! Funny yet its kind of what most yanks fans will do!
The problem is the yanks shouldnt even have started off slow with the team they have, the payroll they have and ARod starting off as hot as he did. Does Torre deserve any of that blame? He should if he deserves credit for making the second 1/2 come back.
Its not like the yanks are the Royals and no one expected them to be there in the beginning and then did an amazing job to make the playoffs. The yanks should never have been in that situation to begin with. Not to mention Torre has made some stupid mistakes the past 6 post seasons.
Jeter left 8 runners on base and hit into 3 double plays, def a rough series for him and I am sure he will be thinking about it all off season.
Don t worry, Jeter batting .177 will be over looked and all the blame will go directed towards Arod for only batting .270 and only hitting 1 HR. Then there will be even more off season hate for arod once he opts out of his contract. He really needs to be a Cub and play for his 2nd father, Sweet Lou!

arod is going to the Angels or the Giants
he is going as far away from NYC as possible. i would say Giants because that way he does not have to play the Yanks at all

yup, and they want those attendance numbers to stay up. Also, they get to lock him in so when he hits #800, it is in a giants uniform and they can get the stank of barry bonds and steroids off their club

I have to say that firing Joe would be a BS move. 12 consecutive post-season appearances aren't done by players alone.
Joe is arguably one of the best skippers out there. At least the best in the AL.
Technically, Torre won't be fired since his contract is up. They just won't renew him.
I think he got too much credit when the Yankees won and too much blame when they lost. He was a so-so manager before taking over the all-star studded Yankee line-up. Yes, he did a good job managing some of the egos on the the team but in the end it's all about how many championships you win.

I was upset that the Phils were out of it but as long as the Yanks are done everything is going to be alright.
I do like Torre though, but if I was him I'd careless if they wanted me or not. With all the $ he should have saved in the bank there's no reason for him to still be around anyway. I'd retire.
