Yah Kev, very original. You make HHH look like a comedic genius! Oh and who in their right mind had the Jays going to the playoffs vs. Boston and NYY? Not me, but I continue to support my team baby!

And if only you had Alex on the team right now, you may have more then 3 hits right now and a salary under 10 million!

managers are such pussies...squeezes work more often than a guy gets a hit...look back at how many times they could have tried a squeeze tonight with a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs...i know this time they could've had a force at home but i am just fed up with it...and this is all a result of how i feel about my team's manager, Willie, but i am shocked to see how little that play is used. The mets would've been in the playoffs if that idiot would call a squeeze in a tight game every now and then.

If this team doesn't hit then we're done. Blame it on bugs or Viz but in the end the bats are pathetic right now. Abreu on 2nd, A-rod hits a double, Mo closes it out, Yankees win 2-1, thats how it had to be in the 9th. What happens? Strikeout.

i am not sure it is so quickly when you consider this is stretching back a few post seasons with the Yanks.

Also, granted they are two 19 game winners, but to not even muster 1 hit in 2 games is not what you expect from an all star caliber player.

compare him to big papi who has gotten huge hits in playoff games against mariano, a HOF closer.

I think the Yanks take the next 2 game in style, with Wang pitching at home in Game 4, and then Andy Pettite wins game 5.

Carmona was dealing all night, he made one bad pitch to Melky and paid for it. But nobody was hitting after the 7th when the bugs showed up. It affected the hitters and pitchers.

Don't forget the way the rally happened. It wasn't a rally at all. It was a walk and two wild pitches by a guy who's had pinpoint control all year.

It was the bugs. They affect some people more than others.

Bulldogcakes
10-06-2007, 03:09 AM
Torre didn't have a bad night (not nearly as bad as the previous) but here's my one gripe.

How the fuck do you walk the bases loaded when the guy standing on 3rd got there on a walk? I understand that Viz is a ground ball pitcher and you're looking for the force, but you're also pinning his back to the wall. I doubt Hafner gets that pitch if it wasn't a 3-2 count and Viz had no other choice. When a pitcher walks the leadoff hitter I can't intentionally walk the bases loaded in that spot. I can't trust that pitcher at that point.

Exactly, yankee fans are the reason I hate being a yankee fan.

If it wasnt for ARod the ankees wouldnt have made the playoffs. Im so tired of ARod bashing like he is the only bat in the line up. There are 8 other guys. ARod got them there and if he has a bad postseason then the rest of the team needs to pick up the slack. I bet if the yanks win the world series (prob not going to happen) After its all said an done it will just make yankee fans love jeter even more. But ARod gets no credit for carrying this whole team on his back all year. How about blaming the rest of the team for doing nothing?

And if Jeter hit a solo shot before that they win too. I love how it's just Arod, bc it's easy to blame him again. How many hits total?

Come on spoon, these people can only remember the good about Jeter, he does no wrong. When he doesnt get a hit its just that. Not everyone can bat 1000. I hope ARod leaves he deserves so much better fan support. He will probably go down as the best player ever (top 3-5 atleast) when his career is over. His playoff #'s are good for his career they just arent good with the yanks. But then again no one on the team has done well since the collapse after game 3 in the 2004 ALCS.

JimBeam
10-06-2007, 10:33 AM
I was thinking the same thing.

Didnt Jeter go 1 for 4 w/ 2 Ks ?

Oh I forgot he got a huge hit back in 1998 so that should matter now.

All this talk about the Yankees not being able to win anymore because they don't have the core players they used to have when they won baffles me.

All we get reminded about is Posada, Jeter, and Rivera and what they mean to the team yet they've been a constant in the failure to win it all for longer than A-Rod.

It's fine if you want the previous 4 titles to still be relevant but realize that they aren't and every year is something new.

You really can't say it's over yet but the Yankees are also going to pitch Clemens and possibly Mussina ( although I think I heard they now may go w/ Wang in a game 4 but does that make sense ? I mean the guy just giot pasted so how's he gonna do on 3 days rest ? ) and again w/out living in the past these guys aren't exactly scaring anybody these days.

Here's the thing so all of you non-Yankee fans can understand.

Jeter's past performance does give him clemency when it comes to this team. However, A-Rod, who is supposedly in a walk year and all we've been hearing from his PR team (boras) is how he's worth so much more than the 25 million he's making right now.

Yes, we wouldn't be in the playoffs it wasn't for A-Rod.

But right now, it's put up or shut up time.

So sad! A rally that results in a tying run is a rally no matter how it happens. And I can cite 100 similar situations like that which helped the yankees win games or any other team. You mean a walk and two wild pitches is a bad thing? Oh you mean it should never happen to a rookie who throws hard in his first ever playoff series. Good point, he has a long history of playing in the MLB! I think there were bugs involved with Glavine bc he never pitches like that in the first inning over a truly long career. Great logic! If they mention about the ghosts coming out to help the Yanks win or the stupid squirrel.......they deserve to fucking lose! STOP hoping for a victory and just go out there and perform. Yanks have TOO much talent to depend on ghosts, rally squirrels and that type of shit.

for some reason today i am much less upset than i was after game 1. I really think they have a good chance to take the next 2 at home, and then come back and win game 5.

and I think Phil Hughes plays a big part in it somewhere along the way

I feel the same way, and I think most Yankee fans do. The only time Clemens was really bad this year was when his elbow was inflamed, and he's had the cortisone shot. He had a long layoff twice before (once for suspension, other for elbow) and was sharp each time he came back. You figure Clemens will be good today, and if he is they have a great shot vs Westbrook.

Tomorrow's game is a better match up with Wang vs Byrd. The Yankees kill Byrd on a regular basis, Wang is very good at home. Then you go back to Cleveland with Pettite vs Sabathia. The pressure would be squarely on the Tribe then. The Yanks will have staved off elimination twice, the Tribe will have blown a big series lead. Then we will see if they get tight in a big spot. I'd like their chances even more in that final game. Plus Sabathia showed signs of letting pressure get to him in Game 1, he was overthrowing badly in the first few innings. The Yanks compiled that 1-7 regular season against him record with patience, fouling off pitches and doing everything they can to frustrate him. They've always smelled blood when he pitches, and I think they will get to him.

If they lose today, tip your cap to the Tribe. They're a MUCH better team than any of us realized. 2 terrific starters, great bullpen and a good lineup. You can win it all with that.

clemens has never been a big game pitcher. he gets a pass a-rod would kill for.

He doesn't have to be great. 6 IP and 3 runs will be fine. Westbrook has pitched twice (http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/pitching?team=cle&split=10&seasonType=2&season=2007) vs the Yanks this year, and given up 12 ER in 8.2 IP. They kill him, and Byrd's number are worse.

I'd give you Clemens reg season head to head stats, but there aren't any.

The Boss to Torre: Win or else (http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcnk3ZjczN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXkxMTMmZmdi ZWw3Zjd2cWVlRUV5eTcyMDQ5NzEmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZU VFeXk2)

Joe Torre's 12-year run as manager of the Yankees will likely end if his team does not rally to beat the Cleveland Indians in the AL Division Series, George Steinbrenner told The Record on Saturday night.

"His job is on the line," the Yankees' owner said in a phone interview. "I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series."

No surprise to me.

Marlins pitching coach Rick Kranitz turned down an offer to return. He came in with Girardi and could be setting himself up to rejoin his old boss.

Hmmmmmm . . . very interesting. I'm hoping Girardi's the front runner. Maybe he knows something we don't.

Hopefully Torre will throw out the pitch counter and leave him in as long as he's effective. 6 will be plenty. I'm hopeful they'll score plenty of runs tonight vs Westbrook so it won't matter too much.

No, I wish Clemens had stayed until the fourth inning. Why didn't Torre have a little faith? It's not like his job is on the line.....oh wait.

Buck and Gywnn are real assholes!

Did anyone catch the, "Who would have picked Colorado and Arizonza to win in the NL playoffs?!" Ah, anyone watching baseball outside of NY that's who. The Rockies are easily the hottest team in MLB and the were playing a team that needed a ton of help to even get in. While the D-backs usually own the Cubs, especially since they would have finished 3rd in almost any other division with the worst fielding and bottom of the league (MLB) stats in almost every offensive category.

Then they go on to say and I quote, "That'll be an interesting series, ONLY bc those two teams are very familiar with each other. They played against each other 18 times this season....there will be no secrets."

Wow, they know how to sell a series without the Cub's Curse or the Mets/Braves on TBS baby! What assholes!

Fox Sports is reporting that Clemens hamstring injury stems from lifting so many bags of stolen money.

Nice!

BTW-I'm sure you heard that the Yanks signed him for 28 mil, etc. You know how much they actually paid him? 14 mil. Still a lot, but shows how way off media reports can be.

Wilbon and Kornheiser picked Cubs/Yanks and Phills/Yanks respectively.......both of them are outside of NY and are two of the most respected sports writers in the business. Please stop with your blind hatred. All you do is accuse people of being homers but then you make moronic statements like that.

Every time I hear Tony Gwynn's voice, I want Rice pilaf.

That being said, I like TBS's graphics. Outside of the dumb "9 foot zone". But the announcers are horrific. Hello, Sterling and Waldman.
