I think you're overestimating. A lot of the Yankee middle-relief woes have been from guys who aren't making the post-season roster.
Guys like Bruney aren't going to october.
1) Posada
2) Giambi
3) Mancave
4) Cano
5) Jeter
6) A-Rod
7) Abreu
8) Damon
9) Melky
10) Matsui
11) Molina
12) Betemit
13) Pettite
14) Wang
15) Mussina
16) Joba
17) Mo
18) Clemens
19) Viz
20) Villone
21) Farnsworth
22) Hughes
That leaves three spots. If Kennedy isn't completely shut down, he probably gets one, and that leaves two spots for another bat (Duncan?) and MAYBE Igawa or Edwar.
Johnny Damon LF
Derek Jeter SS
Bobby Abreu RF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jorge Posada C
Hideki Matsui DH
Robinson Cano 2B
Melky Cabrera CF
Doug Mientkiewicz 1B
Chien-Ming Wang RHP
Other position players
INF Wilson Betemit
1B Jason Giambi
OF-1B Shelley Duncan
C Jose Molina
OF-3B Bronson Sardinha
Other starting pitchers
LHP Andy Pettitte
RHP Roger Clemens
RHP Mike Mussina
RHP Phil Hughes
Bullpen
RHP Mariano Rivera
RHP Joba Chamberlain
RHP Luis Vizcaino
RHP Kyle Farnsworth
RHP Ross Ohlendorf
RHP Jose Veras
Meh. Surprised about Veras, Sardinha, etc.

Kinda disappointed not to see Flaco on the post-season roster. He's looked pretty solid at times, and has proven himself more than than Ollendorf, who we've seen for all of 5 minutes.

"I'm not even sure how this, what do you call it, 'wild card?' Right…how this wild card even works," said Yankees shortstop and team captain Derek Jeter, who made "air quotes" gestures every time he uttered the phrase. "Can a team even make it to the World Series from such a position? Seems like charity to me. And the Yankees are nobody's charity case."
I LOL'ed.

this is why most of us here pay attention to the 162 games played prior to tonight. i'm so fuckin pumped, and if i wasn't so hungover i'd be even more excited. apparently theres an injury to Mientkiewicz but nobody knows how severe yet or if it will impact the line-up tonight. either way, i'm locked and loaded.............ready to go to war.

Sabathia's at 114 pitches, he shouldn't last much longer. He was really laboring that last inning, and the Yanks don't give him a break anywhere. Wedge just might call it a night for him, there's no point letting him get into trouble and then have a reliever try to bail you out.
If Joe has a brain, he'll pull Wang right now.

Matsui was the final out in the first with 2 men on, and was the final out with the bases loaded in the 5th.

Actually you're right, Posada's been bad too. But at least he's a switch hitter and there was no question as to whether he should start. With Matsui there was, and it has worked out horribly.

Hughes should be starting Game 4, not being used in mop up. Joe's had a disastrous series so far. Every decision has come up empty so far, and Mussina hasn't even pitched yet. Don't tell me its all the players. He's choosing the wrong guys.
And Villone hasn't been awful this year. Here's his line
ERA 4.25 IP42.1 H36 BB18
Less than a hit per inning pitched, walks about 3.5 per 9. Not great, but a steady veteran.

4 rings, will have 2500+ hits before he's 35, known for being a clutch player, 200 Home Runs. .316 lifetime, great D. Consumate team player. Yankee captain. As long as he holds his current course for 2-3 more years, I have no doubt he's in.

Quick side story on Kenny Lofton. He stuck his finger up my friends ass when she met him one night in Chicago. They weren't even hooking up, they were hugging goodbye and he reached around and shoved his hand down the back of he pants and put his finger in her ass. Kenny Lofton fingers butts, don't make him a bad person though.

haha that is hysterical
I agree about Jeter, he def deserves to be in there. I just think his numbers are not that far from Kenny Lofton, except the rings. Well it depends on how much longer Jeter plays, but I think even if he retired tommorow he would be in the Hall
Yankee captain.
I don't think THAT is really a factor -- but if it is, Graig Nettles, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry and Don Mattingly got screwed!

Yea even sox fans can't argue Jeter. The yankee captain doesn't help, but the leadership he showed and just his reputation for coming up huge would get him in if his stats werent enough, which they are probably know and will be by the time he hangs um up.
And if you wanna put Mattingly in, you are gonna have to put alot of other guys in who woulda had stats but didn't for the same reasons as Donnie Mustache, guys like Albert Belle. And no one wants to do that

Sosa will make it cause he is at 600. He may have tested the 500 homers thing and not made it, like how Palmero will test all the "auto ins". But I think you have to put sosa in.

Bonds is a lock, just simply cause he was a lock before roids. No one remembers he is the ONLY 500/500 guy. Shit the only 400/400 guy. He was a legend pre steroids, and he will get in no question. Just the record will be questioned.
I put McGriff in simply because it WAS the defensive drills video that gets results. But I don't think Tom Emanski gets a vote.
Delgado won't get in, especially after this year, he is prob done. Chipper I don't think is gonna quite make it either, although 3rd base has been a little lean after ARod and alot of people forget how good chipper was.
Sheffield won't get there, and I think Frank Thomas will just because if 1 person has the balls to say Mattingly should be on, then you have to put every other first basemen who made an allstar team in

Currently, there are 19 left fielders in the Baseball Hall of Fame. If compared against these players, Rice would rank sixth in home runs, ninth in RBIs, and 14th in both batting average and hits. While Rice is generally regarded as being one of the better hitters of his era, he has not yet received enough votes cast by the BBWAA in a given year to be elected to the Hall of Fame. However, during the course of his continuing eligibility period, he has received over 3100 total votes, which is the second most ever collected by any player. In 2006[13] and 2007[14], he received over 63% of votes cast. His last year of BBWAA voting eligibility will be in 2008, which would place him on the 2009 ballot.

Maybe, but its just as likely his name gets spread around because of how effective he is at his age, and the legions of hitters he's thrown chin music at.
As to the age part, his boyhood idol was Nolan Ryan and nobody doubts his training regimen. So like Ryan, its plausible he's kept his stuff through hard work. I know there have been lots of smoke around Clemens but again, don't forget he's made a lot of enemies. Lots of people WANT his name to show up, regardless of the facts.

Andy's been terrific. He's at 61 pitches, so if he keeps on rolling he should get to the 7th.
This is one of the rare playoff games where I'm enjoying watching the pitcher pitch more than the Yankee hitters at the plate.

yes, he has been. but i feel like its a little unfair that he has to keep going out there and throwing up zeros (even though thats always a pitchers job). the bats need to get going to give andy some breathing room.

Refresh my memory from little league. Isn't it "The Dumbest play in baseball" when you make the last out at 3rd base? or "Never make the first or last out at 3rd" to put it another way.
Thank you Kenny. Check's in the mail.

Mo threw only 7 pitches. Nice.
We might need him for a few more innings. He hasn't thrown since last week, off day tomorrow, he'll live.
Wedge used Perez for 2 innings last night. He was great, but he might be tired. Same for Betancourt.
Please bench Matsui. I can't look at him after last night. Get Giambi in there. At least he'll draw a walk.

Loyalty is more important than winning games.
Plus, he's one of 'Torre's guys' which . . . . . . again, has nothing to do with winning baseball games.
