See you guys tomorrow night. Now we're in a "moral conumdrum" do we play Kendrich tomorrow night or not?
Good Luck!
The Phillies are 1-3 against us when Moyer pitches
Kendrick sucks
Mets sweep.

awwwwwwww....someone's still in a tizzy over last year??
See-YUH!
lets see, I am finally ready to discuss this.
I HATE these games. I can deal much better with an 8-7 loss where it is back and forth- these feelings of impending doom, and watching the opponent seemingly get every break (broken bat hits, etc) is killing me.
I pretty much figured Philly would win the first game, so if Santana wins tonight, its as I thought - it's just the HOW that's causing me to pop TUMS like ol' Davey Johnson used to.

ROllins openig his mouth again
At his blog for The News Journal, Scott Lauber asked Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins about his team’s ability to come up with unexpected rallies against the Mets.
Rollins, on his motivation, as quoted by Lauber:
“The other team gives you some inspiration, let’s put it that way. You’re able to take that and keep yourself motivated.”
When asked to elaborated, Rollins responded:
“No, just watch ‘em. If you were a player and you’re looking over in that other dugout, you’ll feel a certain type of way. Rewind the game. Just watch the game.”
According to Lauber, the Phillies took offense the Mets ‘over-the-top’ celebrations, specially Jose Reyes.
Frankly, after last night’s 5-for-7 performance, Rollins can say anything he wants, but the so-called ‘over-the-top celebration’ by the Mets is played out.
If Rollins needs that to get him motivated, rather than the sheer magnitude of this series, then he needs his head examined.

Whatev about Rollins.
Personally, I don't think any baseball player that was 1 for 46 over the past month should ever open their goddamn mouth about motivation.

it just pisses me off because Victorino is just as bad with celebrations. reyes is not as abd ashe was when he was younger. rollins is the MVP he shouldn't need reyes to motivate him

I think yo uare wrong about Victorino. He is a very firey young fella. Nothing wrong with pumping fists, and yelling at your dugout to keep it going. He never taunts the other team.
Don't worry bout what Rollins is talking about.

See, I take this stance. I remember when Reyes hit a home run a few games ago against the Phils, and he ran the bases with his finger in the air, giving the Number One sign. I didn't think down upon him about that. The opposing team should use that as fuel, and start kicking asses with their bats and defense. Talking about it after the fact is weak sauce.
Reyes is an excellent player, and I'd wanna see and enjoy seeing younger players (like Reyes and Victorino) out there being excited and pumped about playing the game. Same thing about seeing a player out there being REALLY angry about not doing well. You need people like that to get your team pumped up, and I like seeing players like that regardless of team.
Then you got a guy like Pat Burrell, who is out there watching fucking strikes sail right by. All this because, to me, it seems he wants to keep his precious On Base Percentage up. A bore to watch.
I'd rather have a fiery player out there trying to stir the pot, rather than a statue going through the motions somewhat.

agreed.
I definitely though would rather see a guy run around the bases on an HR all pumped and excited than see the guy stand at home plate and vogue (Manny)
(yes, I used an old Madonna reference. so sue me)
The problem between the two is that Reyes:
a) shows up his own teammates (Victorino never does that).
b) infuriates other teams (when the Marlins cited that Milledge/Reyes fiasco in the second to last game of last season as the reason they wanted to destroy the Mets on that final game, it's a problem).
I've never seen or heard anything to that effect with Vic. If Reyes handled himself like Victorino, no one would complain.
I don't think this is a world of Blowhards where everyone is calling for nine players with the Roger Maris crewcut and 1000 yard stare, void of all emotion.

reyes never showed up a team mate. the Delgado thing was blown out of proportion. he said himself he took no offense. reyes was pissed at his throw,
the miledge/reyes things was stupid shit. Milledge was moreof a problem IMHO

You're telling me when Reyes slams his glove down on the field during the middle of an inning, it's not showing up his pitcher? I've seen him do that several times.
When he refuses to leave a game after he's been told by his manager to get off the field, that it's not showing him up?
It's just stupid. If his teammates don't have a problem with it, that's fine...but it's just unnecessary. Show a little bit of class.
The other thing is more of a problem. It's one thing if the Mets were just smashing teams into the ground, but enough opposing players have said that the arrogance with which they conduct themselves pisses them off, that it's becoming a rallying point.
Hell, that was the whole basis of Rollins calling them out at the beginning of last year.
There's such a weird sense of entitlement to that team, when that haven't really won anything.

he is showing emotion. he didn't want to leave the game because he felt fine anwanted to play. he apologized for it afterwards, to the entire team and manager. But I am sure the philly papers leave out that stuff.
him slamming his glove is emotions when he messes up. i have NEVER seen him do that showing up the pitcher.
i see no sense of entitlement from them this season. Last season I could, but not this year.
and a huge problem is everyone continues to focus on last season, when the teams attitude is very different this season

I don't believe either of those- its all reporters.
a) the incident supposedly where Reyes showed up teammate was with a throw to Delgado; not only did Reyes say he wasn't trying to show up Delgado (he was pissed at himself), Delgado said he took no offense.
b) for all I heard of how the Marlins hate Reyes, I took a photo this year of Reyes hanging out before game with Hanley Ramirez, and it seems they are good buddys. I think all that nonsense last year was over blown.

The difference between Jose Reyes and Shane Victorino is that while Victorino is otherwise awful, Reyes is the best player at his position in baseball.
To compare the two is otherwise silly.

Why would what he did as an Astro three years ago mean anything to me??
Now the meltdowns suffered by
future Hall of Famer Billy Wagner
had a direct impact on the Mets epic meltdown last year, and their play this year.
In fact, if someone can pull a Tonya Harding and hit Billy in his throwing shoulder with a crowbar to keep him on the DL the rest of the season, the Mets MAY just win this thing.

Games can be blown when they're tied. I bore witness to one particularly horrific meltdown on August 30, 2007.
As for
future Hall Of Famer Billy Wagner
browsing through the thread, I suppose you didn't say 'Billy Wagner is a Hall of Famer' directly, but you absolutely implied through arguing him as better than Trevor Hoffman, who is a lock to be voted in.
It's quite an interesting...and insane...read.
However, if you want to clear that up, I'd be more than happy to hear that you actually do believe he's NOT a hall of famer.

I agree that Utley is a tremendous player. Howard- I'm not so sure about.
He has a bit of Dave Kingman to him (although much nicer guy from what I hear).
Great HR, but misses and awful lot, and absolutely awful in the field. Delagdo has a higher VORP than Howard this year. Also, Howard isn't as young as many think.
Utley can be a HOF player- Ryan Sandberg comes to mind, but with more power.
as for Wagner/Hoffman, I too think Wagner has had a better career, but I don't put either in the HOF.
Right now I only put in Mariano as a reliever. Hoffman was good- but that doesn't make him an alltime great in my opinion; Gossage and Sutter (the last 2 relievers) were head and shoulders better.
As I said yesterday, this series went as expected -the 1st game was a more painful loss than I would have liked, but its the same in the standings as any other loss.
right now, Cubs >>> any other team. My biggest concern for this weekend is the Marlins seem to have Pelfrey's number.

things I never thought I'd say
"Maybe Delgado is the MVP this season".
check out this from metsblog.com
During last night’s come from behind win versus the Phillies, Carlos Delgado was 3-for-4 with 2 HR and 3 RBI.
Delgado, on putting the team on his back, speaking with reporters after the game:
“That wasn’t the plan. It wasn’t the way we scripted it, but it worked out that way. We stayed close. We came up with a couple hits and Murphy came up with a big hit. You play against these guys, you’ve got to keep it close. It’s a big win for us to bounce back from a game like yesterday. We’re all happy.”
On coming back after a tough loss:
“It shows we have a lot of character here and we have short term memories. Last night was a tough loss, but we were able to put that behind us and come back an play. That’s important, if you lose a game or two and start worrying about that you’re going to be in trouble.”
Delgado, on fighting the demons of last September:
“Whatever happened last year, it happened and we put it behind us. We are in a different frame of mind. We’re not thinking about September of 2007, we’re thinking about going out and playing good baseball right now.”
Since June 27, Delgado leads the National League with 19 HR and 58 RBI, while hitting .310.
As Keith Hernandez mentioned during SNY’s broadcast last night, it’s time for Delgado to be mentioned in National League MVP conversation.
As I said in last night’s postGame, Delgado winning the MVP would have a lot of people eating crow, if they’re not already.

as boondock said, he's not your ordinary lefty, but the main reason he's pitching is with Maine out, they need the start. Would I have preferred a healthy John Maine vs the Brew Crew? sure, but that's not an option. Better to have a good looking lefty than a retread righty.
Tomorrow will bring a number of extra arms to the Met pen; hopefully some (Parnell, Kunz in his 2nd go 'round) will help.

good question. best i can do.
"If a player is on the 40-man roster but not on the active major league roster, he is said to be on optional assignment—his organization may freely move him between the major league club and the minor league club. If a player is on the 40-man roster and not the active 25 man roster for any part of more than three seasons, he is out of options and may not be assigned to the minors without first clearing waivers. However, if a player has less than 5 years of professional experience, he may be optioned to the minors in a fourth season without being subject to waivers. If a major league player is ineligible for free agency and "has options" remaining, his team may option him to a minor league team without consequence. This is usually what is meant when players are "sent down" to the minors. Likewise, when a player on the 40-man roster is added to the active major league roster, he is "called up" to the majors."

hmmm thats a good question they just asked. If you had to pick one, who would you rather have back Ollie or Delgado. Id have to pick Ollie. I feel they can just put Murphy and Evans at 1st. Niese is maybe a year away, so you need ollie.
Reyes just tied Mookie wilson for all time stolen base lead for Mets. with 281

and a nice one it was.
I'm very excited to see a rookie left-handed pitcher make his debut in Milwaukee against a lineup that generally murders lefties. :bye:
3 games throwing lefty starters vs Brew.

At the beginning of the year I saw Ollie getting somewhere in the neighborhood of Roy Oswalt money (5/75)
I think thats just about where he'll fit in this offseason, but Sabathia is going to blow up the market for sure

plus if he remains undefeated plus all the cg's and whatever milw does in the postseason if they make it, and how well he pitches there all will be factors

Its not Scott Boras' fault someone was stupid enough to give Barry Zito 126 million.
Boras does his job and he's the best at doing it in any sport in the world.
Since coming to the Brewers' he's averaged 111 pitches a start...The Brewers don't care about long term health because their long term with CC ends after this season.
I wouldn't give him the type of money Santana is making.

Ugh you're right. This stupid holiday weekend shit has me a day behind.
Good news though, since we'll be in first on Monday irregardless of the results.
Santana/Hamels on the Sunday night ESPN game is probably the best matchup that ESPN will get all year.

Well thats what ESPN has lined up for Sunday.
It would be stupid for them to not to at this point, he's missed us by one game I think the last 3 series.
Especially since the first 2 games of the series favor the Mets, I can see them pushing Hamels for the Sunday game

The Phillies confirmed that Cole Hamels will come back and start on four days' rest against the Mets on Sunday.
It was an easy call, though Hamels wouldn't normally have been scheduled to pitch until Monday because of an off day Thursday. Kyle Kendrick will be pushed back a day.

The quest for 4,000,000 is getting close.
Right now we have gotten 3,301,543 tickets sold.
We're averaging 50,792 per game with 16 left at home
So that would be 812,672 and it should push us over 4,000,000 on the year.
I assume that average will only rise too, since we have 3 with Philly left at home, four with the Cubs
The last series of the year will definitely be sold out too.
Pretty incredible for a team that 10 years ago barely broke 2 million and 14 years ago barely broke a million.

I'm just saying I'm happy with the direction of the franchise, even though people are going to be pissed next year with the ticket prices and number of tickets.
Plus the fact the season will be sold out before the team even steps on the field probably.
