So the new season of Smallville premiered yesterday. I thought it was a great episode to kickoff the new season.
With Clark vs. "Bizarro" Clark and Supergirl/Kara making her debut, I have a good feeling about this season.
Although I do think maybe next season will probably be the last.
But I wonder how many who frequent this messageboard are a fan of Smallville?
Anyhoo, thoughts anyone?

I like and don't like Smallville.
The geek in me watches with interest to see the whole comic legacy on TV, but at the same time I get annoyed with the "this isn't how it happened in the comics" arguement.I think they need to pick up the pace a little more with the whole telling of his story. And why is it that every super powered bad guy just happened to get his badguy powers from meteor rocks/kryptonite ?? And for that matter....how much of that shit landed in Smallville ??? 6 seasons and numerous villains....youd think theyd be out of the stuff by now. And whatever happened to the black kid ? And why doesn't Clark wear glasses? Kinda defeats the whole secret identity thing doesn't it ?

The writers of the show just wanted to tell a different story/version on the whole Superman/Clark Kent saga. In the beginning, they stated "no tights/no flights" on this version which is really of Superboy/Young Superman.
For kryptonite, 2 meteor showers in season 1 and at the end of season 4, apparently littered Smallville with a limitless supply of meteor rocks.
The kid of played Pete Ross left the show after season 3. I forget the actors name at the moment.
I don't know why Clark doesn't wear glasses. Since you have Lois Lane on the show, and practically every character on Smallville who knows Clark Kent, the whole eventual becoming Superman is gonna be tricky and hard to pull off.

The show is so bad that I find it a simple pleasure. The writing is terrible, the plotting is all wrong, there's no rhyme or reason, the characterization suck, everything is so Lanacentric. But it's dumb enough to remain a simple watcher. I just hope this is its final season. I did think that when they let Lex actually be a character (like up until S3) Rosenbaum was fantastic and I do like Allison Mack on the show. When Clark isn't all mopey over how terrible life is because he can't be with Lana, I do think TW can be good, I wouldn't mind him as Superman in the Justice League movie.
But enough with the Lana bullshit.

Yeah, a lot of people get annoyed of the Lana character. But since they are not allowed to have Clark fall for Lois Lane, Lana will pretty much be the one that Clark will always fall for.
If anything, they should at least made Clark fall for Chloe, but I don't think it'll happen.

The casting of Kristen Kreuk as Lana Lang is another thing I don't get about Smallville.
Gee.....its a small town in Kansas, yet I look hispanic/filipino. Yep, thats reasonable.

I thought it was interesting as casting because lang sounds like a chinese last name.

I will not be happy when Smallville ends...it'll probably be cuz Clark gets too old to be "Superboy" I enjoy the conflicts and the hot teen-age ass is refreshingly enjoyable to an old guy like me!

Next season will probably be the last since Tom Welling signed for another season. Don't know about the other cast members though. Last year I figured this season would've been the last.
Oh well, we'll see.

It's better with the DVD seasons. That's how I got into it. No commercials in the way.

I'm a fan of the Smallville series, from it's "Freak of the Week" Season One to now. I've always been a comic geek and I know they've taken some liberties with the storylines, but they tend to stick to the main points of the mythology.
I liked the fact that they reference Kara/Supergirl as "an angel" as one of her comic reincarnations was as an angel.
I also liked the fact that the yellow sun weakens Bizarro Clark, while it strengthens Normal Clark (which goes back to when they first introduced the Bizarros in the comics, a group of Bizarros attacked the dark side of a planet as they were too weak in the sunlight to do any real damage). My only gripe is that they never showed the sun quick healing Clark in any episode before this one. You would think that since the sun is where his powers are derived, that it's healing properties would be a HUGE plot point made way back in Season One.
Now, to answer some of the posters questions:
Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) is signed thru the rest of this season. The producers would like to bring him back for Season 8, but not so much in a starring role.
Tom Welling and the others are signed on for Season 8, which will more than likely be the last season.
The "No Flying/No Costume" Rule will be thrown out on the last episode, to my understanding.
The actor that played Pete Ross, Sam Jones III, didn't like how his character was being used (they started to shift him to more of a background character) so he left the show.

They actually did show Clark heal couple of times once a kryptonite is away. I forget what episode, but there was a funny one when Lex was helping Clark after he got beat up or something. One moment Lex sees bruises on Clark, turns around for a moment, Clark heals, Lex turns back, and he has that face like 'what the fuck?!' Funny.
To this day, I still don't like that "No flights/No tights" rule. Every other character related to krypton can fly, but Clark still can't. It's getting stupid at this point.

Just wondering.

I thought that a few of her lines came across as a bit wooden, especially where there should have been more emotion (like when she finds out that Krypton went boom) but that could be attributed to her just learning how humans on Earth act.
Other than that, I think that she will be a decent fit. I'm sure that with what they have planned story-wise for her character, it should at least be an entertaining season.

You know, as much as I like this show, I'm starting to really get annoyed by the constant appearance of kryptonite, every time Clark is about to face a villian on the show.
It's like the writers don't want Clark to kick the crap out of anyone.

Not sure if anyone but me still watches this show but all I can say is this is the 10th and final season and every episode has been tremendous. 5 episodes in and youve had Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Darkseid, Brainiac 5, Green Arrow, The Suicide Squad, Lex Luthor, Supergirl and tons of other cool shit including the Superman suit.
With the last episode of Smallville,
It was a very nice Ghost of Superman Past, Present and Future using the Legion time traveling ring and Brainiac V inside a high school reunion episode.
Flashbacks to the first seasons were cool.
The darkness of Clark Kent has been finally revealed.
Lois Lane was wearing a very hot dress.
Nice future sneak peak of future Superman flying.
The Green Arrow comes out to the public.
Chloe's weird wall having followers was a nice point.
And it had a nice ending.
I was a very entertaining episode.
The previews for the Lex-clone peaked my interest for the rest of the season. Will the old Lex return?

Im pretty sure that just confirmed what I thought when I watched the 1st episode. The first thing I said is this kid better have some accelerated aging otherwise Michael Rosenbaum is a fucking dick.
Im figuring by the end of this season you will see the original Lex back. It was also a pretty cool way for him to forget Clarks secret. Im just hoping they pull out a storyline that will help him discover his past including that he killed Lionel.
I know Lionel is in a future episode this year so I have faith.

It's all true with these characters. And with the way the stories have been for the last couple of years, it wouldn't make sense for Chloe and Lana to come out of hiding for a reunion in H.S.
At least we had some clips of first season which was kind of nice. Although it could've been cool to see a couple of more "meteor freaks" return besides bug boy.

Huh? They didnt really show him and the suit this last episode.
The finale of last season his mother left him a box with a bow on it, when he opened it you saw the Superman symbol in his eyes. The first episode of this season he decides hes going to wear it, but before he can Jor-El transports him and the suit to the Fortress of Solitude and encases it in crystal, saying hes not ready for it yet.
Its actually the exact same suit from Superman Returns. In the meantime hes been starting to wear a maroon/red leather jacket with the S on the front (same color as the jacket).
Nice how they tied Tess into the Luthor family and Granny Goodness, Gordon Godfrey and Desaad arrive.
Teri Hatcher guest starred as Ella Lane.

I used to watch the shit outta this show. Then, for some reason, I never stuck with it.
The last episode I saw was the season finale a few years ago. I think Lana was married to Lex or some shit. There was some kinda hellacious hurricane or something. Lots of wind and extreme weather that was tearing a city apart or something like that. I dunno.
I've been meaning to get back into it .. .and NOT just because I have a deep, true, meaningful stalker relationship with Erica Durance but.... because I wanted some closure on all the open storylines. But ... I dunno... for some reason... I never went back.
Has it been coming to a focused close? Is it satisfying??
I liked season 9(Zod & Kryptonians) much more than 8(Doomsday & Jimmy Olsen).
IMO, Season 10 is doing well so far with the coming of Darkseid and the Luthor clones.

I think its been fantastic. In previous seasons they didnt find out if they were renewed or not until halfway through the season. So they would always write 2 sets of storylines, one to finish the series if it wasnt renewed, and one to continue it if it was.
This season they made the right move in saying it was the last season before it even started. This way they could focus on one strong storyline that wraps up the series entirely.
I have yet to be dissapointed in one episode this year. Not to mention I love the fact that they are using it to bring back every actor that played a signifigant role in Smallville. The only 2 that havent been confirmed so far is Lana and Lex. But considering what they are doing with the Lex clone rapidly aging, I think its a foregone conclusion he will be in at least one episode. Probably the one Geoff Johns wrote.

The finale was this week. Greatest finale of any TV show Ive ever seen. Not to mention this season they tied up EVERY single loose end to make it fit with the Superman canon. Something I never thought theyd be able to do.
In the finale alone you got him in the suit, you got flight, you got Darkseid (albeit briefly), you got the return of Lex Luthor, you got Apokolips, etc. Just an all around amazing series. Cant wait til the DVD box set comes out.
