I'm wondering if this "transformer" mode will more be along the lines of vehicular camoflauge rather than going the full-out robot mode. Super Pursuit Mode was kinda cool, in a cheesey sort of way.

Well, here's the problem. Hoff's too old to do this shit. So you have one of two options:

1) Re-imagine the entire series with someone new in the roles you loved, and they make their own. However, a link to the past as a special guest star is acceptable. See: New Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman.

2) Continue the series with someone new and still have Hoff as Knight. That's what they did here.

I think the issue is, Michael Knight is too ingrained in the pop culture lexicon as Hoff that no one else could play the role. Think of everyone who has played roles that were previously established. I can't think of anyone who could have replaced the original outside of Battlestar Galactica, and that's only because Moore stacked the deck with much, much better actors.

Someone needs to inform the screenwriter that nanites, while ingeniously used in many a Hollywood film for their regenerative or strength-enhancing science fiction potential, still have to obey the laws of physics. And I won't even start on the banter between KITT and the new Michael, although I must admit I was thoroughly amused when KITT didn't mince words about Michael's sexuality, accusing him of being a faggot and flashing clipart of homosexuals in tie-dye shirts holiding each other. Apparently I wasn't alone in my assessment of the young ranger's sexuality.

I can't say enough bad things about this pilot. My only hope is making bad television is a sin and everyone involved with this project, including Ford, which seems to think attaching itself to entertainment properties will, in some way, ingratiate itself with the american public and improve the image of their awkward looking, poorly made, unreliable vehicles.

Same thing in 24 and other shows. KR didn't set the precedent there. It's a way to offset costs. I think the out of pocket expense for NBC to make this was very very cheap, considering all the face time Ford got out of this.

I actually think the longform "date" commercials was the most embarassing thing of them all. Mike has a first date, and he chooses to pick up the girl in his friend's trusty Focus rather than the Mustang.

They didn't even BOTHER trying to hide the fact it was an allegory for Blackwater. I mean, what the fuck? Seriously? Some creativity?! At least?


Not to mention that angle's already been used a bunch already. 24's had it, and it was a major plot point in the first season of Jericho. I think Jericho's was even also called Black River.


I can't wait until Jeff has a heart attack over the crappy modern version of a ridiculous show where people fired thousands of bullets but only ever shot gun out of hands and everyone always walked away from the deadliest of crashes just fine.

i didn't watch the 2-hour 'backdoor pilot' (what a stupid new expression) that was on a few months ago, but i'm watching the first episode of the new series, and it's terrible!

it's corny and cheesy as hell!!! it's got the same level of drama as the original series, that is, not much! right before the commercial, the characters get put in some oh my god, they're gonna die situation, then within 5 seconds after the commercial break, they escape the dangerous situation without much effort.

the KITT voice is cold and uninteresting (which it shouldn't be, since the car is one of the stars of the show). also, apparently this KITT can transform into different shapes, with some bad special effects and quick-cut editing to avoid how silly the car-to-4x4 transformation looks. i'm sure the car will transform into a boat or a motorcycle at some point!

even the background out the side windows or out the back window as Michael and KITT are driving down the street are terrible! it's as bad as a Hanna-Barbera cartoon loop, where the same scenery keeps passing by in the background!!! you'd think they'd have figured out how to make that much look realistic in this day and age.

maybe i'll give it another episode before i write it off as an utter waste of an 80's series 'reboot' (another stupid new expression), but this series looks like it's gonna be a stinker!!!
