I am one of those guys that will keep their car until it can no longer run. My 88 volvo wont start. Took it to the machanic and he cant do anything for me.
When I turn the key, the thing doesn't even make a noise...anyone know what could be wrong??

what did the mechanic say? do any lights or anything go on, or is 100% dead?
if it is all dead, you need a new battery or a jump. if not you might need a starter

It's either a bent Johnson rod or you need blinker fluid.

I hope it's not the Johnson rod. When I had mine replaced it cost over $1,000!

I have no idea, but given the fact that the mechanic said he couldn't do anything for your car, I'd say it's a long shot that any of us will be able to help you -- especially with so few details.

sounds like a ground to me.
if the battery has charge, but you turn the key and no lights or anything come on, then there's no power to the car.

I'd take it to a different mechanic for starters.
What does "cant do anything for me" mean? Did he say anything about it? Did he have any clues as to what it might be? Or did he just look at it and say "f this s" and tell you he can't do anything for you?

what model volvo is it? I had a 88 volvo 760 turbo once and it and a similar problem. If you can pull out the radio. There is about a dozen electrical relays behind there. If you can try tapping on those while trying to start it, you may discover you have a stuck relay. They are easy to replace but they are about $70 at the dealer. cheaper to get on ebay. otherwise make sure to check all your fuses. Hope this helps. good luck!
