Come on Mudo, sour grapes man.
And I did gain respect for the way Crosby was working with his players and the respect they showed him when he was talking to them. I was actually surprised by his poise in a shitty situation as the game got a little more ugly. Smart captain play to reel his players back in knowing they're up 3-1 even with that game.

Sour grapes?? I DESPISE Pittsburgh with every fiber of my being, but I wouldn't rip them for no reason. If i thought they did something right, i would SAY they did something right. Just like I think the Flyers will make the Stanley Cup Finals, cause i think theyre the best team left in the East, not cause they got two HUMONGOUS officiating breaks in Game 7 thanks to the Polish All Star Referee Crew. And I'm no homer. I HATED the fact that Cristobal Huet spends most of his time flopping around like a dead fish in the crease ala Dominik Hasek in order to draw penalties, which is probably why they didn't call one when he got tackled late in that game
And how is poise when you get yourself off the ice for two minutes near the end of a game when youre down by two goals? Him AND Malkin by the way?
And on another topic, I dont know what Crosby's trying to channel with his playoff beard...
Its either Bucco Bruce

Jesus mudo, it's hockey remember that. Hell, Gvac has been constantly sending me texts, leaving me messages on my phone and IMs ripping my Avs and I take it bc it's all about having fun in the end....with the game, the teams and each other. It's an aside from life and we all have our favorites so let it be and enjoy some good hockey.
While I've been impressed with Biron, Briere and the Flyers, without the Buf contingent they'd be golfing long ago so it's much harder for me to respect them as a team compared to Pitt. Also, It's going to be very hard to knock them off in the east with all that scoring and Fleury finally looking worth that 1st overall.
Oh yah, wings got lucky! Go anyone else!!

I still gotta go with Philly. It seems like they get BLITZED in every single third period, but somehow they always manage to squeak out a win with a crazy bounce or something like that. There's just this whole "team of destiny" aura around them.
Plus, theyre so damn good defensively, AND they have like what....8 20 goal scorers? With Biron playing as out of his mind as he has, they don't really need all that much anyway. And if they beat Montreal, theyve beaten the best skating and puck handling team left in the playoffs through and have gone through some pretty heavy adversity in the first two rounds. How is Pittsburgh going to react when they're pressed or have their backs against the wall? I don't see them with anyone to match Upshall and Hartnell. I feel like the Flyers are just too deep and too good defensively for Pittsburgh to beat them. Their PK as of late against MTL has been a CLINIC...unbelieveable

Kevin,
Quite the game to end the series. Certainly more than a tune up before Philadelphia. Valiant effort sir, seriously.
Are there any Philadelphia supporters on this thread? I need someone with which to banter. Of course there's that wanker Mudo and his psuedo objective opinion on the series. I'd like to start it up with him, but it's hard to create an organic rivalry with his team's season already complete. His opinion is clearly skewed and void of reality. The Flyers' roster has more depth? Really?

I hate Philly.
Not the city, not the team, not the Jerseys.
But I hate Fuckin Hatcher.... Until he dies, or until I get my shift and go knee on knee with him and end his career, I hate Philly.
Which is a shame, cause I'm a huge fan of Carter and Richards.

Word has it that John Stevens has placed a call to Bobby Clarke to put together a list of the five best goons available on the market right now.
They will promptly be signed and dubbed the 'Crosby killers'
Flyers hockey is ALL about the goon squad...I'm betting on Crosby being put through the glass on three seperate occasions during this series.

Hey homer don't you have some scumbag to watch hit another homerun?
I know what you mean, but Montreal is one of the least scary number ones I can remember. Washington was hot, but c'mon, that was a three week push by a mediocre team. Pens take this, and if the Flyers win, then I will start trashing my beloved Eagles so that they can surprise people to.
Hey homer
I plead 100% guilty.
I haven't watched hockey since the great Lindros saga.
Now I'm off to go buy a Briere jersey, an old 1950s style leather hockey helmet, and framed picture of Schultzy to put over the mantle.

Tip my hat to you.
You were the better team with better talent. The only way i saw us winning was Lundqvist standing on his head. And while he was not terrible, he wasn't as good as he needed to be.
Good luck on the awful Flyers.

i wonder what the record is (they are heading into a 4th OT) i seem to remember a 5 OT game not that long ago maybe...
edit - they just went showed the longest playoff games list, 152+ minutes is the record, so that is 6 OT's, several 5 OT games on the list, this game is currently the 8th longest.
holy shit nabokov has already made some great saves in this period, sharks are going to be crushed if they lose this, they have carried the play in overtime.

Morrow planting himself in front and the PP goal wins it.
I love how the VS crew kept talking about how great the game was regardless of the score, bc you know Bettman was/will be pissed about it. I say this bc he surely wasn't watching bc he's not even close to into hockey, and he only wants to find ways to artificially make it better. Ways that include anything that ups the scoring which simply isn't needed. I can't wait until he's gone.
Great game. Too bad the Sharks couldn't have won one of the first three bc game 7 was needed in this awesome series. Both goalies were amazing tonight.

What a game! Overtime hockey in the playoffs is simply amazing. Everyone is elevated to another level, especially the goaltenders.
Turco was unvelievable, as was Nabakov. That save he made in the first OT was simple astounding.
I would have loved to have seen the Sharks win, only because I would have loved to see a game 7. But hey, still the best game of the post season so far.
As for the Ranger game, I unfortunately could only see the highlights cause I was at a confirmation for my cousin, but from what I saw and what all the annoucners were saying, Lundqvist was the only reason the Rangers made it into overtime. The Rangers had a great run though considering. II thought they'd put up more of a fight than a measely 5 games, but pittsburgh seems to have something special going on. Anywho...
My predictions:
Red Wings over the Stars in 6
Penguins over the Flyers in 7
I am much less confident in my Penguins pick because the Flyers are just playing inspired hockey. I still don't think they'll be able to overcome the strengths of the Penguins though.

Paul Stastny - #26 - Center - 6'0" - 205lbs
News: Stastny (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn MCL, the Denver Post reports.
Impact: He'll have surgery this offseason but should be healthy by the time training camp rolls around. The injury would have kept him sidelined about a month during the season. (RotoWire - Sat. May 3, 2008)
Paul Stastny - #26 - Center - 6'0" - 205lbs
News: Stastny's knee injury kept him out of the Avalanche's 8-2 loss to Detroit on Thursday that completed the Red Wings' four-game first-round playoff series sweep.
Impact: The Avalanche didn't divulge too much information on the extent of Stastny's injury at the time, but the center tore his medial collateral ligament in a freak collision with the Red Wings' Pavel Datsyuk, according to the Denver Post. It is expected that Stastny will need about four weeks to make a full recovery. (STATS - Sat. May 3, 2008)
Scott Hannan - #22 - Defense - 6'1" - 225lbs
News: Avalanche vice president Jean Martineau disclosed Friday that Hannan played in Thursday's 8-2 loss to Detroit with a broken bone in his foot, according to the Denver Post.
Impact: Hannan played 16 minutes, 14 seconds in Thursday's defeat, which helped the Red Wings sweep the four-game series. The defenseman took a puck in the foot in the second-round series opener before sitting out Game 2. Hannan finished with one assist in seven playoff games. (STATS - Sat. May 3, 2008)
Ian Laperriere - #14 - Right Wing - 6'1" - 200lbs
News: Avalanche vice president Jean Martineau disclosed Friday that Laperriere played in Thursday's 8-2 loss to Detroit with a broken bone in his foot, according to the Denver Post.
Impact: Laperriere logged just 11 minutes, four seconds in Thursday's defeat, which allowed the Red Wings to advance to the conference finals following a four-game sweep of the Avs. The right wing had a goal and an assist in 10 postseason contests. (STATS - Sat. May 3, 2008)
Wojtek Wolski - #8 - Left Wing - 6'3" - 200lbs
News: Wolski suffered five cracked ribs in Game 1 of the Avalanche's Western Conference semifinal series against Detroit, which concluded Thursday with the Red Wings' 8-2 victory, according to the Denver Post.
Impact: Wolski was involved in a freak collision with the Red Wings' Johan Franzen after Franzen had been leveled on a hip check from Ruslan Salei. Wolski had two goals and three assists as the Avalanche defeated Minnesota in six games. He didn't score in the only game he played against the Red Wings. (STATS - Sat. May 3, 2008)
Peter Forsberg - #21 - Center - 6'0" - 210lbs
News: Forsberg sat out the host Avalanche's 8-2 loss to Detroit on Thursday the completed the Red Wings' four-game, second-round series sweep of the Avs. He said after the game that an MRI on Wednesday revealed tears in both groins. He ended up playing 16 games, including seven in the playoffs, after rejoining the Avs at the trade deadline with the understanding he'd play when his chronically bad ankle allowed.
Impact: Forsberg said he wants to return to Colorado next season - health permitting. Otherwise, retirement beckons. "Just too many injuries," Forsberg said. "If it doesn't get solved, that would be it, but we'll see what happens." The center was one of five key players out for Game 4 as leading scorer Paul Stastny (knee) and forwards Ryan Smyth (foot), Wojtek Wolski (ribs) and Marek Svatos (knee) were also sidelined. (STATS - Fri. May 2, 2008)
Ryan Smyth - #94 - Left Wing - 6'1" - 190lbs
News: Smyth didn't play in Game 3 due to a foot injury and it's unclear if he'll play in Game 4 as Colorado has its back to the wall, down 3-0 in its series with Detroit.
Impact: Quenneville said Smyth might have been injured when he blocked a shot in Game 2. His absence is another serious blow to the banged-up Avalanche, who have been without forward Wojtek Wolski since he suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury that knocked him out of Game 1. (STATS - Wed. Apr 30, 2008)
Jose Theodore - #60 - Goaltender - 5'11" - 182lbs
News: The Avs pulled Theodore after he gave up four goals on 16 shots, then sent him to the team hotel because he was sick. Peter Budaj gave the Avs a chance to come back by stopping all 20 shots he faced.
Impact: Quenneville is hopeful Theodore will play in Game 2 on Saturday. (STATS - Fri. Apr 25, 2008)
All I'm saying is WOW!? WTF!?!? Add in Svatos and Clark and you have some unreal injury totals.

Leafs fired their coach today
There was a columnist a while ago who made a great point about the Leafs being locked into what he called "perpetual mediocrity". Theyre not good enough to make deep playoff runs every year, but theyre not bad enough to rebuild with high draft picks. If you keep finishing 10th and 11th every year, there's no way for you to get better.
I feel like they should tear down that whole house, trade off all their assets and rebuild again. Take 4-5 years of being terrible, and actually build a consistent winner (see Pittsburgh and Washington). Problem is, I don't know if the fans there will be patient enough seeing as Philly turned it around pretty quickly (Holmgren pulling GENIUS moves as a GM like getting Upshall and Hartnell for Peter Forsberg's ghost, and stealing Braydon Coburn from Atlanta for Alexei Zhitnik's rotting corpse, not to mention Vaclav Prospal, even though they had to give up Picard to get him), and I feel like Tampa will to. Problem is, i see NO base there right now that they can build anything on.
Sorry Leafs fans...its gonna be a looooong few years. :drunk:

The problem is the jackass running the show. He has a 'big 4' mentality; he tries to drag the playoffs on like it was the year end awards for the MLB in an attempt to keep interest.
Unfortunately he is causing the reverse effect. If it weren't for Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Phanuef, and the other handful of young stars the league would be f'd.

The league is doing well, Mudo - with hardcore hockey fans.
With the general public? Not so much.
Ask the average American who Crosby or Ovechkin are. Conversely, go back in time a few years and ask the average American who Gretzky and Lemieux are.
With no national television exposure it's almost impossible for this league to grow. Bettman is a horse's ass who never should have gotten the job in the first place. We need a hockey man in that position.

I'm not just saying this because I'm a Wingnut, but I've been watching hockey since the 70's and I don't know if I've ever seen a team faster in transition and through the neutral zone than this year's Red Wings, and that includes the Oiler dynasties of the 80's.
And the only reason Nashville won those two games is because Hasek decided to go to sleep in net. Ever since he was yanked in favor of Osgood the Wings haven't lost.

Helps em out if Dallas keeps making lazy passes and turnovers in their own zone. I mustve saw at least eight of those while I watched the game. I think maybe they got caught off guard by Detroit's speed or their forecheck in general. They had an AWFUL hard time just trying to move the puck outta their own zone at times.
They gotta do something about that PK. I dont know if the solution is to go all out and put massive pressure on the points, or to try as much as possible to deny Detroit the blueline and make them dump it in, but they CANNOT sit there like they did in game one for the entire series and let Holmstrom and the Mule tip pucks in
Just kinda had the feeling after Miettenen missed that open net (i think it was him, after a BRILLIANT pass by Modano to start the rush), it just wasn't gonna be their night

My heart says Wings but I think the Pens!!
Gregory your team better win if it gets there!

I'm not talking about just last night, Mudo...I mean all season. This team is chock full of speedy Swedes who can thread the needle and tic-tac-toe pass at breakneck speed.
I also think not having to face 2 West coast opponents in the playoffs like they had to last year (Anaheim and San Jose) coupled with the fact that they made such short work of Colorado has this team healthy and well rested.
I'm far more confident this year than last.

Joel Quennville's out in Colorado... (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=237247&lid=headline&lpos=secStory_main)
Olie Kolzig's done in DC (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=237218&lid=sublink02&lpos=headlines_nhl)
This story breaks my heart. In a lot of ways, Olie was the last link to the teams I grew up watching as a kid, and its tough to see him go. Not only has he been with the franchise since 1989 (!), but he's been an absolute icon in the community for his charitable ventures, particularly with his work in the fight against autism (his son is autistic), and one of the classiest hockey players and people you'll find anywhere. I honestly hope that he just retires...I cannot bear to see him wearing another jersey. I don't really see anywhere he could go to be honest...maybe he can caddy for Luongo for a year or two in Vancouver (since by all accounts Curtis "Fred" Sanford is done there) and play out the string, or maybe a place San Jose (Boucher's the backup there now for Uncle Ronnie Wilson, and theyre a contender)
I know for certain that no one will EVER wear 37 again for the Washington Capitals, and its a really sad day

Don't know if he'll be re-signed....at best, he'll be a bridge to Varlamov and Neuvirth (he's 32). The only goaltender really right now signed is Battling Brent Johnson.
By all accounts Olie was REALLY pissed that he didn't even get considered when the series to got to 3-1. He said by then he realized that he had been pushed out the door and his tenure here was over.

I was kind of sarcastic, but not fully. Huet helped them get into the playoffs. While in the playoffs, and down 3-1, they should have went to Kolzig. Huet got them to a game seven, but it was a classless move by the Caps. He handled it with gace though. Good for him.

WHAT?!? That's just stupid.
And the Pitt series is all but done with Kimo T out. Now they don't have anyone to at least mirror one of the big guys (Malkin, Crosby, or Hossa). The Flyers will have to really goon it up to contend at all, minus a miracle run by Biron. And a goon run looks very unlikely bc Pitt has plenty of toughness to protect them from such tactics.

If there is a Crosby conspiracy why did they not give him the goal in the first? Clearly the puck crossed the line
And that was a correct penalty, as they just explained on the VS coverage.

As a lockout cancelled the 2004–05 NHL season, the draft order was determined by lottery on July 22, 2005. Teams were assigned 1 to 3 balls based on their playoff appearances and first overall draft picks from the past three years. According to the draft order, the selection worked its way up to 30 as usual; then instead of repeating the order as in past years, the draft "snaked" back down to the team with the first pick. Therefore the team with the first pick overall would not pick again until the 60th pick. The team with the 30th pick would also get the 31st pick. The draft was only seven rounds in length, compared to nine rounds in years past. The labor dispute caused the shortened draft.
Three Balls
* Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins
Two Balls
* Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Atlanta Thrashers, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes
One Ball
* Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals

Good: his teams win, and play very good defense
Bad: His teams don't win when it counts, and he has an alarming tendency to "lose" his teams. Not sure if he lost the team in San Jose, but he did lose the team in DC, which is kinda disturbing, since it was an older team full of vets that really fit his system
I think he'll get hired again...his teams have been too successful not to. I could see him taking the Florida job (since Jacques Martin is also defensive minded). Don't know if he'll wanna coach Toronto...i'm sure NOBODY wants to step into that mess.
It seems to me personally that SJ's problem is that it takes after Joe Thornton too much. Its a soft team, I dont know how else to put it, and Thornton's a soft player. Doesnt make him or the team bad, just soft.

The series was over the minute it came across the crawl that Timonen was out for the playoffs with a blood clot in his foot...and yes, he was THAT important. Tough break for the Flyers.

I predicted the Flyers to win, I never shied away from that. And I said they would win BEFORE I knew Timonen was out. When he was out, I said they were finished. Check the posts.
The guy is their best penalty killer, only decent puck moving defenseman, best shotblocker, best shut down defenceman, and their power play QB. His loss singlehandedly killed the Flyers. It changed their entire offence, turned Randy Jones laughably into their Power Play QB, and forced him and Hatcher to play big time minutes, most importantly Hatcher, cause the guy can't skate, and he keeps getting dumb hooking calls cause he can't skate. And yes, I STILL believe the Flyers would have won the series if Timonen didn't get hurt. Cause guess what? I STILL don't believe Pittsburgh is all that good. They drew a poo poo Ottawa team, an overrated Rangers team, and a Flyers team missing its best player. I'm supposed to worship at their altar because theyve beaten three subpar teams? No thanks.

To say the Wings will beat the Pens easily is pretty ridiculous.
Lets not forget the Wings struggled to beat the Predators, a team who wouldn't have even qualified in the east playoffs
The Pens have the lowest GAA in the playoffs and are second in GFA, the best power play and the best penalty kill, 3 of the top 6 scorers in the playoffs are Penguins and its fair to say the Pens are a much more physical team then the Wings
Its going to be a long series, and you'd have to say the Wings are the favorite, but not by much.
And while both series are pretty much done, the Dallas/Wings series has a much better chance of dragging out then the Pens/Flyers series, which could effect the conditioning for next round
Lets not forget the Wings struggled to beat the Predators, a team who wouldn't have even qualified in the east playoffs
The only times the Wings "struggled" with Nashville was games 3 and 4 when Hasek gave up easy goals 30 seconds apart to surrender the lead. Ever since he was pulled in the 3rd period of game 4 of that series the Wings haven't struggled with anyone.

I'll sum up the whole reason Mudo simply can't look at this objectively.....he hates Crosby, Malkin and the Pens bc his favorite team has Ovechkin. It's such a stupid bias and it truly kills his rationale for many of his arguments. Sorry Mudo, but it truly looks like sour grapes for what reason I don't truly understand. Has Crosby earned his whiny rep, sure, but does it mean he's not an awesome player along with Malkin....NO WAY. Also, star players have ALWAYS got the benefit of the calls in EVERY sports league.
I can't stand the wings and all, but have to tip the hat when they run us over like they did. However, it just makes their exit all the better when they become part of the record books!!!

My hatred for Pittsburgh predates Crosby/Ovechkin...goes all the way back to Lemeiux and Jagr and Francis and just for shits and giggles, Peter Taglienetti

I did think the Flyers were better honestly. I thought they had better (and more) scoring, a better goaltender, and while not a top shelf defence, one that sat on leads well. And considering how many breaks they had been getting in the playoffs so far, they had the whole "team of destiny" aura around them

That's odd bc they didn't even make the playoffs last year, have an ok coach, overall bad defense, some scoring and tons of grit (some say a lot of assholes). I NEVER had them to beat the Pens, and to say they have more scoring then Pitt just doesn't make sense.

I hope we didn't blow our load today. The arena was more drunk and intense than I have ever seen. Philly fans were overly abused the entire day. I saw Umberger's sister nearly in tears/a fistfight trying to explain that she was from Pittsburgh and that her brother was on the team. It was a blowout and a party and a celebration that spilled into the streets. This is drunken drivel, but it was truly exciting. As much as I hate the Flyers, hats off to a solid series. Mudo, you were right man, the flyers do have more scoring power....
Secondly, I'm not even sure that Detroit is a definite to play in the finals, but should they make it... Hockeytown? I know numerous people here in Pittsburgh who have tickets for games 2, 5 and 7 in Detroit, should they be necessary. My roommate in fact bought four for both 2 and 5 the other day. A lot of people are talking about going up regardless. I even heard a guy saying tonight he bought tickets for game seven against Dallas that he planned to turn over on Craigs list. I may be ignorant to the dimensions of Joe Louis, but any available playoff ticket for any round has sold out in literally less than 90 seconds here. I even heard that Detroit doesn't sell out every game during the post season. I could be way off here, but is that true?

The Red Wings not only sold out every home game for 10 years (396 consecutive games) but also sell "standing room" tickets to every game. This past season was the first time since 1996 that they didn't sell out every home game.
The reason for the decrease in attendance is generally attributed to the massive layoffs in the automotive industry, which greatly affects the economy of the Michigan and Ontario fan base. Joe Louis Arena holds just shy of 20,000 and the Wings would only allow 17,000 season ticket holders so others could attend. This past season there were only 14,000 season ticket holders and no one on the waiting list.
Believe me, it's not because the Wings aren't loved that they aren't selling out. Michigan and Windsor, Ontario area citizens are bat shit for the Red Wings.

5 30 goal scorers *shrugs*
They scored one more goal than Pitt during the regular season, but gave up 16 more...so i'd say the Pens were actually better DEFENSIVELY than the Flyers, but again, i thought they were deeper offensively than people gave them credit for, and they had a team of destiny aura around them, which can count for a lot.

Someone was speculating (cant remember exactly who, I believe it may have been the Wings announce team), that the Wings were REALLY suffering with the new schedules since they played a lot of west coast teams, they were having a hard time selling the game to their younger fans, and were thinking of really trying hard to get back into the eastern conference.
Did hear Mr. Bettman say on the NHL Hour t'other day that the league is cutting back on the divisional games (which he says are the "best attended games" well...duh..theres more of those games than any!) and making sure everyone plays everyone else at least twice next year, which is great, cause I'd love to see guys like Anze Kopitar and Peter Mueller and Roberto Luongo

ahh, I see. Yeah, it didn't sound right. Should the finals end up in Detroit, which I think they will, I'm interested to see the number of Pens fans that make the trip. There was a story about some Pens blogging site or something that got the password to access ticket sales. I don't even know if that adds up, but you'd be surprised to hear the number of people around here who are going to Detroit, both with and without tickets. (Again, should they make it)

This is such a hard series to pick. The Juggernauts of both conferences.
If Detroit can play at the level they played in game three and six againsT in the conference finals, then I find it hard to pick against them. With that being said, the Penguins are playing amazing hockey at the moment. Only two games where they really let up.
Both teams have to be mistake free. If bad turnovers occur than the opposing team will score.
I'm going to say Wings in 7, though I'm saying seven more because I really want it to get that far. I'm sure the NHL would love to see a game seven where Crosby scores the game winning goal in overtime, handng the Penguins their first cup and firmly cementing Crosby as the best player in the National Hockey League.

Pittsburgh better come out with a lot more energy, though. The beginning of that game looked like the first 2 games to me. Up until two or three shifts before the opening goal, the ice seemed to be tilted towards Fleury. What did they have, something like 2 or 3 shots before that one went in.

Bragging about taking home the cup after a loss? Odd, but bold. Admittedly, I kind of like it.
Some things I've learned thus far:
1. The Wings are even better than I thought
2. The Wings are even softer than I thought
3. Home ice advantage is real, especially for the Pens
4. If Malkin ever shows up, we are even more in the series
5. Our fans are better
I know that last one is a serious low blow, but have you heard the Let's go Pens and other chants of the like in Joe Louis? They eventually embarrassingly get drowned out by "let's go wings" or whatever, but only in response to the Pittsburgh fans. One estimate said there were between 1-2,000 fans in Detroit. That may be a bit ambitious, but to me, shocking nonetheless.
I know it's just one win, but I think we may have a series on our hands here....

Barry Melrose will reportedly serve as the Tampa Bay Lightning's head coach next season.
Melrose led the 1992-93 Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup finals as their head coach. If this report is true, Melrose will replace current Lightning coach John Tortorella, who has held the post for six seasons. It is believed that owner Oren Koules is making this move in an effort to sell the team.

It might be. He's signed to CBC's Hockey Night in Canada for a few more seasons but he could still do the mid week games and Sunday games I suppose.
In my opinion, his views are stale, outdated and somewhat redundant, Kelly Hrudey does a feature 'Behind the Mask' during the second periods and has really taken a more active role in the broadcasts on CBC over the past 2 season. I think he is much more enjoyable to watch than Cherry these days.

If we get someone taller than 5'5. We have a team full of Bossanova's and Jonyrotons.

Glad to shut those faggoty Detroit fans with their gay chants up.
Way to finally make some noise, didn't make a peep until you had a lead in the third period of game 5 with a 3-1 lead.

that was a hell of an effort to tie it there, and they should be on a power play after that cheap stick to the head after the goal. im guessing they didnt see it because its something they almsot always call no matter what the situation/time left.

I feel bad for Journey really. First their song gets played during the shitty ending of the Sopranos, and now this.
OH MY GOD HE WAS BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIT JUST LIKE US!!

If the Pens can win this and overcome blowing a 2-0 lead, the absolutely atrocious officiating, the absolutely awful ice conditions, the Gonchar injury and being down in the 3rd period with less then 40 seconds left this series is going 7.
No way they lose at home if they pull this miracle out.

I know its sounds nitpicky, but the PA guys in Detroit play 1) too much music and 2) really bad arena music

I know when they bring out the cup in the last 3 minutes of the 3rd you kind of expect to go to bed and not have to hear about a tie and overtime.

Obviously the NHL has issued the verdict to extend the series.
Maybe the refs can invent a few more phantom calls against the Wings and give the Pens enough power play chances so they can finally score.

how can you have a PP with 2 minutes left in 2OT and not be on your feet cheering your balls off for your team? detroit fans were literally silent during the whole PP, you could hear a pin drop. what shitty fans.

Any Detroit fan complaining against the refs, especially in this game is out of their mind.
They have been gift wrapping this game for the Wings
Good to see the Pens finally starting to outplay the Wings, hopefully they cash in next period
Poor ralphbxny...Hope the sleep was worth it.
And win or lose, Marc Andre Fleury has been the best player on the ice...Absolutely unfuckingbelievable.
