I actually cheered for the Devs to win last night, 'cause I hate them equally with the Isles, but right now Satan is on a hot streak like a mo-fo so they were the lesser of two evils.
Rangers had a nice win against Toronto last night. Was good for Valiquette to play well in his home town, in front of his 'rents on Hockey Night in Canada. I had wished the Rangers had called up Montoya over Valiquette, nothing against him other than I just liked Monty better, but Valiquette showed he deserves to be here last night.
First win on the road...aboot freakin' time.

It's available on Comcast Digital, if you have it, on their sports tier.
BTW, I just realized that the Devils have a team in Newark, and their farm team in Trenton. All they need is another team in Camden and it would be an unholy trifecta of suck.
Come on, I want their UHL team to be the East Orange Darkies! Now that's a quadzilla!

Things are clicking in Colorado again. Expect a GT move to pick up a D man very soon. Perhaps Orpik from Pitt and ?? for Theodore...or Kaberle for Svatos and ?? I really see them making a move for D this year.

Scott Stevens went into the Hall Of Fame tonight. and since he's the only one worth mentioning that went in tonight, he's the only one we should talk about.
Dude, Messier owns Stevens. Stevens is worthy of the HOF, but he's no freakin' Messier. I guess we're back to agreeing to disagree.
Don't know if any of you were watching the 'Canes Panthers game, but Stillman just scored the equivalent of an empty net goal with the goalie still on the ice. Faked him out really good. Not the best play in the world, but just something you don't see too often.

Not sure what you're asking here? Are you asking Orpik or Kaberle, if so, both fill big needs.
Kaberle will surely cost more in terms of prospects as he's a 60pt + D man with size but his game is offense. He lacks the ability to use his size defensively at times (which is the Av's top need), but does have a nice shot from the point at even strength and on the PP (the Av's other main need).
Orpik is a few years younger, plays a mean physical game and has good instincts out there with a knack to simplify things and shutdown the opponents. He fills the need of replacing Foote which the Avs still haven't done as Hannan simply isn't that guy. Some people tried to say he was after the trade (Av message boards) but I constantly fought them on it. Orpik would cost less bc he's a d first style player who hasn't made a big name for himself on a O first team with huge names. For Theo straight up, it would be a steal even if Theo played well for them. I'd love to dump this Theo contract and open up the trade market for a big O PP point shot after using Theo as trade bait for the D first D man. It would be the smart play to take less and dump the contract. If they don't lose anyone else in the move, it would be a great one. Sell high, and watch him fall hard.

Both awesome players in there own ways, and both were leaders on and off the ice as well. Hall of Famers not one doubt about it. And Leech vs Stevens isn't even an argument worth having. Two totally different players. D first with hard hitting vs. swift skating puck moving offensive minded d man. Both great as well.

yet, we have played less games then u and the entire NHL. You should have more point but u dont b/c u guys suck. 2-0 vs my Isles. Congrats for finally learning to win on the rd. Btw, Vasicek has more goals then Drury and Gomez, and didnt cost half the payroll.

You are delusional.. We just haven't won 1 or 2 in a row on the road.. But FIVE! And Drury and Gomez were never classified as big goal scorers.. They do other things like assist, and with that being said, come back to me in june and see if it matters who has more goals. And those 2 games came when we were not together yet.. And one if not both without Avery. We will see Tuesday night. These two teams aren't in the same galaxy.
Edit.. Just checked.. They still both have more pts than he does.. Gomez 14, Drury 12.. Him 10.. So your goal example holds no water.

I never said points. I said Goals.
Let's not forget the point that the Islanders have had the easiest schedule in the NHL so far, beside playing the least amount of games they've also played back to back games only twice. Your goalie still has a GAA of 2.35. This is all not to mention, of course, that we still have six games against you.
As for Gomez and Drury taking half the salary cap, at least we didn't sign a concussion-laden asshat to a 15 year deal. Keep telling yourselves that deal was smart and justifiable.
In conclusion, if I had balls, I'd tell you to lick them.

Let's have a reality check, shall we. It's dangerous to make judgments based on a very early season. And yes I am aware what the outcome has been in the head to head matchup. But if you all take a serious objective look at the Rangers and Islanders the reality is that only one is a contender. If you had been examining things objectively you should have known the Rangers would surge as they are now.
I have a lot of respect for your goaltender on the Island, but let's be real there's not much else there.
Speaking of great goaltenders I hate, way to go Marty:dry:

Fruxin hell if I know, a few players get groin injuries for a game or two and everyone forgets how to play hockey. D stops playin D now Gerber starts letting in 5 goals a game.
It's all mental, with stuff like this you need psychologists instead of coaches.
Also I think Ottawa was basically the exact same team as last year so they had their timing down early where a team like the rangers, thrown together like an all star team needs time to gel to get their timing down. That's true of alot of teams this season.

Alright, let's discuss the Prudential Center for a second. Has anybody else been there yet to see a game? It's beautiful, but I digress. Me and 3 of my buddies go to the game and decide to buy tickets at the box office around 4:30pm. We saw a lot of good, cheap seats on sale at ticketmaster but we didn't want to spend money on all their stupid fees so we figured the box office would be the way to go. When we get there it turns out the only 4 seats available in a row are located in Section 105 for a hundred dollars apiece. We all figured it was a little steep to pay, but at least we'd have good seats and since it was the only game we were gonna see there this season we could all afford to drop the dough. Now, one would assume that Section 105 would be in the lower level, wrong. Section 105 is located IN THE UPPER DECK. $100 to sit in the upper deck, who the fuck do the Devils think they are? This infuriated me, as i was already many beers in and i wouldn't stop bitching to my friends about how badly we got hosed. So my buddy decides about an hour before game time that we should go take a walk around the building and check it out rather then sit in our shitty seats and complain for an hour. So we wind up in the Restaurant there, and after slipping some lady 20 bucks we found ourselves 4 beautiful seats with a perfect view of the ice on the lower ledge. Now since we didn't have reservations nobody decided to wait on us, so we ate the buffet for free and went to the bar to get our beers. We left the Restaurant after the second period and headed over to the Goal Bar to watch the 3rd period. Somebody left their VIP table and we snuck under the ropes and watched the rest of the game from our very own VIP table complete with an HD tv, so we also had the B.C. game on while we watched the 3rd period. After the game I got to meet Daneyko and get my head on t.v. while he was doing the post game. Overall it was an amazing game, i got to see my first live penalty shot after going to games for the past 16 years or so. Plus the Devils won in a shootout. The security isn't very good at the arena, but it's really a beautiful place and i'm glad the Devils will call it home for the foreseeable future.

I went to the last Winter Classic in Edmonton and this years looked like just as much fun, wish I could have been there. I really wished that Buffalo could have pulled it off but when Crosbey had a shot to win the shootout you know that they were in trouble. I just wanted to hear the crowd roar if the Sabres won but the curse lives on.

Oilers start a 5 game road trip vs the entire southeast division starting tomorrow night in Washington. They need go at least 4-1 to really contend for a playoff spot, there's 4 teams ahead of Edmonton for the 8th spot. They may be in last place in their division, but to say they're a bad team is a total lie, they're a young tough team who fights for a point for over 60 minutes each game, if the team was totally healthy they'd be in much better position they are now.
The 4 game winning streak was snapped last night against the Kings but I'm confident we'll get at least 6 points vs the southeast.

Wow....I am just amazed by the transformation of my beloved Capitals over the last couple months. Its really hard to believe that theyre thisclose to overtaking Carolina and being in the lead of the DIVISION. That loss last night to the Leafs really hurt tho, cause if we had swept the home and home with them, we coulda gone into the break with the division lead. It seems like guys have finally found their roles and are actually starting to click (Kozlov and Semin are putting things together, and the back two lines have really got their stuff together, especially the Laing, Steckel, Bradley line, which I love)
When I look at what I see now from them, I couldn't be happier. From a point where I HATED the team that they were, a team that didnt do anything well enough to have any identity, to now when i see guys flinging themselves all over the ice, hustle on every shift, and just plain try to outwork everybody, it really makes me proud to be a fan.
Now its actually concievable, that we could end up with the Hart Trophy winner (Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin), the Rocket Richard winner (Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin), the Calder Trophy winner (Backstrom...who deserves his own message), and the Jack Adams winner (Bruce Boudreau....they should basically just start etching his name on the trophy now)

Ehhhhh....I dont buy Babcock simply for the fact that his team is full of Hall of Famers and All Stars. I could win 50 games coaching that team.
From the point that we were the worst team in the lig, to how competitive we have become over the last few months? If it holds up and we make the playoffs, he has to be.

Common misconception.
Lidstrom, Chelios, Hasek are sure bet Hall of Fame players, absolutely. Their respective ages are 37, 46 and 43. Other than those three relics, who on Red Wings roster is a Hall of Famer? Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Draper? Not likely. The Red Wings are the toughest team in the league to score on and the 2nd highest scoring offense in the league.
Look at their defense. Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Lebda, Lilja, Chelios. Look at their goaltending. Chris Osgood and Dominik Hasek. If those 8 players are playing in any other system than Mike Babcock's I have a hard time believing they'd make the playoffs.
Their offense is headlined by the Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Holmstrom line but beyond that it's 3 lines of role players.
No one is doing more with less than Mike Babcock.

I love Corvo and Eaves but that really was a great deal by Bryan Murray, the hurricanes must think they're gonna miss the playoffs this year.
They're no way Ottawa can afford them both next year but they're both a perfect fit for this years playoff run. Commadore's physical presence and Stillman's production is all you can ask for. Eaves was hurt alot and didn't play great when the top line wasn't hot but Corvo's point shot will be hard to replace. Stillman waived the no-trade clause probably because he's from a town about an hour from here.
I can't wait to see them.

Yeah I know it wouldn't make sense but the deal feels too good to be true like there's a catch.
The way the east is so tight they're 2 teams back of the last playoff spot. A top team can have one bad week and they're out and vice versa for the cellar teams. If tampa had a great 2 weeks they could jump from last to third easily.

Lunqvist Rangers Agree on 6yr deal (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3243637)
Happy to have Henrik locked up. Maybe this will clear his mind and get him out of the Minni slump he has been in.
That slump coincides with when Lundqvist's father, Peter, suffered an aneurysm and had brain surgery in Sweden. Lundqvist, whose twin brother, Joel, plays for the Dallas Stars, has been reluctant to discuss his father's health, and has refused to link his performance with what is going on in his family.
Makes sense on why he has been struggling.

I figured with all the teams after Campbell that they would be able to pick up a player a little more proven in the league.

I thought the Richards deal to Dallas was pretty good for both sides...Stars get Holmqvist and Richards, Ning get Jeff Halpern, Mike Smith, who's a really good young goalie, and Jussi Jokinen...i thought that was a really good deal for both sides
-Brad Stuart to Detroit I think will pay off for the Wings if they can just get bodies back

If I was a sabres fan id be PISSED and screaming mad. There's no way a team can claim it cant compete economically in this day and age, and theyve let all these guys go not because they CAN'T pay them, its cause they dont WANT to, which is a goddamn slap in the face to all those Sabres fans, who are some of the biggest diehards in the lig
I thought the Pens gave away too much for Hossa, unless he re signs there, which I doubt he will...we'll see how it pans out for them, but i would think they probably coulda used Huet more than Hossa, cause i wouldnt trust Conklin in the playoffs, even though he's played well

Eh....Johnny's save percentage isn't that much better. I dont understand the deal at all really...I would have liked to think they would have packaged Huet and maybe a Steve Eminger (since Huet is a UFA after this year and Eminger is expendable), to get something more gooder, but i'm just more baffled by this than anything.
I like the addition of Cooke and Fedorov, if only cause our penalty kill needs help. In that loss to Carolina saturday (which, if we don't make the playoffs, that game there the main cause of it) we gave up something like 4 powerplay goals, so it helps with that. Pettinger's a good player, he's got a lot of speed and can finish, but he's just having a really bad year. He's capable of putting up 20-25 every year, so i think he can help the Canucks. And we only gave up a low D prospect for Federov, so I can live with that.

I dunno...I'd have to look at what other goalies are out there to be honest. I think at the very least its fairly obvious Olie's not going to be coming back since he's an FA and they probably won't re sign him.
With any other team I would think it would be strange for them to ride into the postseason on a rookie goalie, but I think the last couple times the Habs have done that have worked out pretty well

As much as I love AMO, id still put him just a tad behind LeCavalier...if only cause LeCavalier's such a complete player at this point, and he's so big and strong he's other worldly...he reminds me so much of Lemieux, except...y'know...he's not a complete and utter pussy
I think the additions of guys like Fedorov and Cooke were so important cause they added experience...the core of this team is still really really really young, but there's a good core of vets, and sometimes there's an advantage to not being all that experienced, since no one really expects that much from you, and ignorance can be bliss at times...it allows you to play loose

Today's win over Colorado marked Marty's 3rd straight 40 win season and 7th overall.

He's only 18 wins away from passing Roy's win total which would make him the winningnest goalie to play the game.

Tonight's game against Carolina is huge...if we lose, we can pretty much kiss the Southeast title goodbye.
It amazes me how Carolina's been able to keep playing as well as they have without Brind'Amour, Williams, and Whitney. And who woulda thunk that Sergei Samsonov of all people would turn out to be such a great addition for them?
It also boggles my mind that the Oilers are only 3 points out of a playoff spot now

I can't understand how the devils can't score a fucking goal. 3 goals in the last 4 games? You've got to be shitting me.

Alex put in his 61st last night...new Caps single season record. Its hard to believe Dennis Maruk set that mark in 81 and had 136 points (!) on a team that won something like 25 games...haha.
Big two points over Carolina even though it was a shootout (and Viktor Kozlov is MONEY in shootouts). Still two points behind Boston cause of the stupid Leafs, and 4 points behind Carolina. Its good that we put some distance from the teams behind us tho...since Buffalo and Florida both lost

well, the Devils just lost to the Rangers for the 7th time this season. 7 motherfucking times! Not only that, in the process they have given up their points lead on the Rangers and are now tied with 5 games left.
Also, fuck Scott Gomez

a 5-1 finish on the road trip!! put FLA out of it tonight officially with a big 3-0 win. Tampa did us a favor and beat Carolina too, so now we're only two points out of first place in the div, and Carolina's coming to town on tuesday.
Its too bad that freakin' Boston and Philadelphia both CANNOT LOSE right now, I dont know how the B's are doing it without Kobasew or Savard...unbeweevable.

Tonight is probably the biggest Caps game in 10 years....
And no, i'm not being overly dramatic...its GIGANTIC in terms of ramifications for this franchise if we can get Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin into the playoffs.
There are three franchises we have to compete with now...its win, or die

About as gay as the circle jerk the Rangers have when they "salute" the fans after every game.
Plus, Jagr and Gomez love to blow each other.
And they're a bunch of communists.
And they eat babies.
