I have been a part of Jim Hanleys Universe in NYC Staten Island and New Jersey going on now for aboujt 20 years. On and off. They have been extraordinarily good to me and my family over the year,s so when this came up I thought I'd turn to you buddays for some help. Check this out:
I'd like to direct you to the Village Voice Best of NYC 2007 Readers' Poll. For the first time in a long time, they have the category, Best Comic-Book Shop. I'd love to think that we are exactly that, but this is a READERS' POLL. So, let your voice be heard! Go to their website OR pick up a copy of the ballot in this week's issue (free!) and throw down a vote for ol' JHU! And while you're at it...throw down a vote for Best Local Rock Band, Tryptophan! Or HeadQuarters! Maybe we can get a tie! And if you're getting this and you live in, say, Australia, feel free to vote anyway! C'mon...don't you want us to win?
Aw, I thought you did! Go to: www.villagevoice.com/readerspoll
Thank you all so much in advance. This sorta thing means a lot and it only takes a min. Thanks again.

I like Forbidden Planet cause my friend Kenny works there. It also has a wide variety of geeky stuff. I don't get to go there much cause its in Union Square and I'm in rockland co. but that place is very cool.

Hello,
I like forbidden planet and I use to go to Jim Hanleys Universe in lower manhatten. I like the more mom and pop stores. I go to the same place in brooklyn, ave. p & Mcdonald avenue. Pinocchio. She always has everything that comes out each week. Also has a shit load of back issues too.

The only comic book store in NYC that i've been in is Midtown comic near Time Square. I don't know how that fairs with most comic places in NYC but I like visiting there every so often when I'm in the city. Would like to check out Forbidden Planet at some point b/c I've heard it's pretty cool.

I have to give props to my former neighborhood shop Alex's MVP and Cards on 89th, between 2nd and 34rd. It's very small, but they give a discount on comics, and now are shipping me my comics to my new home in Glastonbury.
Plus, Alex tends bar at Elaine's on Friday nights, and has been generous to me behind the bar.

i cant remember the name of the eltingville one but it is closed down, there is another one on midland ave "krypton comics" but they fucking suck. JHU is the place to go on SI.
As for manhattan, I like midtown comics, but I used to shop at forbidden planet all the time because they have a nice action figure section.
I have to vote for JHU though since they're my local shop

I'm not a huge collector, but Time Warp in Hewlett is pretty good
