View Full Version : The Best Burger You've Ever Had

So I'm curious. What's the Best Burger You've Ever Had?
Fast Food Category:
I have to give In-n-Out Burger it's props, and I'm looking very forward to December when I can head back to Arizona and have some of it's goodness.
Back in the Day Category:
Roy Rogers. I know it's fried, but the Fixins Bar overrules all else. I'd load that bad boy up. I know there are some Roys still around here, but it's kind of seedy.
Current Category:
The other day, I had the chance to enjoy a Bacon Cheeseburger (my first in a very, VERY long time) from Blitzburgers (http://www.blitzburgers.com) in North Brunswick.
Wow. It was fantastic. The only thing it was missing was pickles and onions, but it was the best burger I've had in a long, long time.

Ostrich burgers are good, but Buffalo burgers are uber tastey. I had a kobe burger, but it wasn't as nearly lipsmacktacular as the Buffalo. Yes, the Native Americans ceased to flourish because of my appetite for the Buffalo. MmmmmmmmMMMmmmmmMMmmmm.
I'm going to go have some filet mignon now with a side of veal and perhaps top it with bacon.

I agree with Buffalo. It's the healthier hamburger, it has the taste and feel of red meat, but it's got a fraction of the fat content.

You have no idea how happy my mom was that they opened up an In-n-Out closer to their house in AZ. It was one of the first places they stopped on their recent trip out there.
For those of you unfamiliar with In-n-Out, it's basically a cross between a high-quality McDonald's back in the day (before corporate greed destroyed the quality) and Johnny Rockets.

I'll take Fred's Parkview in Burlington, Wisconsin. Just a little hole in the wall joint that knows how to make a fuckin' burger. Shitty parking & no waitresses in the joint, rather you have to write your own order and take it to the bar.

I have been to this place. Its pretty good. The burgers are small like white castles but made fresh not frozen. They also use potato mini rolls instead of regular rolls. The problem is the place is so small and a shit hole. They are so busy that you cant eat your burgers and relax because their is no room.
As for my favorite burger. I love homemade burgers either freshly made by me or for a quickie bubba burgers on the grill. I never order a burger at a regular resteraunt or bar. There is always something better to order. So the only time I order burgers is at fast food places. If you look at my sig pic you will see the places I like. They are also pictured in order of greatness.
I will list them for those that are retarded.

Jake's is might tasty, but I'd take Five Guys over them.
There's actually three Jake's in Delaware now...one in Newark, one in New Castle, and one literally right up the street from me near Prices Corner.
They also just opened one near Chadds Ford, PA right when you crossover from Delaware to PA on Rt. 202. So they could be expanding to regional.
The Newark one, and the one near me are the two best. The New Castle one sucks, and I've never tried the Chadds Ford one.
By the way, best burger I've ever had...Kobe Burger at the Deer Park in Newark, DE...I don't believe they do them regularly, but they did it one night...fantastic!

I ate at Five Guys today for the very first time in my life, based on recommendations from some people on this board as well as the word of Fez Marie Whatley. First and last time I'd like to add. It was the greasiest cheeseburger I've ever had and I've had the runs all day because of it. On a positive note, I'd like to say that my shit smells FANTASTIC! Exactly like a Five Guys cheeseburger.

As for best burger, it is most definitely Jackson Hole (http://www.jacksonholeburgers.com/) in New York City. I have never had a burger that good. I've gone a couple times now and each meal there is as amazing as the last.
I'm sorry, I just can't condone this. "Bigger" doesn't always mean better. I've seen this in person and the smell is enough to turn your stomach. It's just a wall of meat.

I was just there again, today, Ay Kay. I've never left the place dissapointed. The beer of choice was the "Friar's Porter" but no burger today, just a simple steak salad, which is the best in the area.

I don't know if I can pick just one but I have a few I would consider 1st class for a variey of reasons.
1. The Red Door, Tontitown, Arkansas. Great burger in a hidden dive bar.
2. There's an outdoor cafe in St. Barts. It's a good burger but the setting and cold Amstel light make it damn near perfect. The chicks shopped and my buddy and I got hammered.
3. The Magnum P.I. burger at Lulu's (http://www.lulushawaii.com/) Waikiki Beach. The burger has beef, avacado and bacon as its main ingredients and is good but the location location location. You sit in the place about 200 yards from the ocean drinking cold beers and watch the sun set over the water right in front of you.

Corner Bistro in NYC. West 4th & Jane Street. So good, so worth the wait. Big ups to BlackJeezis for the heads up on this place. Up by me in Carmel there are the aforementioned Sycamore drive in and the Dockside pub. Their burgers are giant and juicy and have delicious toppings and twists. Yum. Plus the fact that you can actually sit on a dock of a lake in the summer and enjoy delicious girly martinis helps a lot too.

I finally got to have a White Manna hamburger experience. It is unbelievable how good they were. I was a little concerned that all those onions would ruin the flavor. I could barely taste them, but the secret was what they do to the flavor of the burger.

Oh I've had some bad burgers. Plus some places that make them do them adequate and that is frustrating in itself because they have all the ingredients to do it right, it just needs to be prepared right. For example Ruby Tuesday, I hate their burgers. They make these commercials about how good they are, I am not even remotely impressed by them.
Also, someone mentioned Fatburger, they opened one on LI about a year ago. I wasn't too impressed with it. It was okay, but not that great that I'd go back.

I've just never actually had a "bad burger." Worse comes to worse, it's still cooked ground beef on a bun with cheese, and that's pretty hard to completely fuck up to the point where I would think, "this tastes horrible and I don't want to eat it."

The Full House in Ypsilanti, Mi. The Deuce Burger order five of them at a time and you too could achieve 250 lb like me. Don't forget the steak Fries and Mt. Dew.
I just found a new place that blows Five Guys out of the water: Ray's Hell Burger/Butcher Burger (http://www.yelp.com/biz/butcher-burgers-arlington-2#hrid:ybXY2NmRo6zFzUNbJFtLJw). It's located next to Ray's the Steaks (best steak in the DC area BTW) and they take the leftover steaks and grind them up into hamburger patties. They offer the burgers in a variety of styles (grilled, au poivre, cajun to name a few) which are cooked OVER FLAME. They don't serve fries here but instead serve an ear of corn and a slice of watermelon. They also offer a variety of soda, floats and ice cream.
It's a little hole on the wall but it's fan-damn-tastic.

As for the best burger I've EVER had...
At my best friend's birthday party, Chef Big Lou was cooking on the grill and he made some sirloin burgers with stilton cheese, chopped smoked bacon and caramelized vidalias & mushrooms on fresh onion rolls. The burgers had to weigh 3/4 of a pound (before all of the crap was on top of it.) The best burger I've ever had... I literally declaired it after three or four bites.

Around Hartford, there's a string of burger bars called Plan B that make some mighty tasty burgers. One day I went in there to have the Philly Cheesesteak, not realizing it was a phillly cheesesteak burger. Not lean ground beef
1 packet of ranch dressing mix
2 eggs
a small amount of olive oil
Mix and make patties
Grill 3-5 minutes on each side with the grill reaching no higher than 350 degrees.

Has anyone ever been to the Counter? (http://www.thecounterburger.com/) One opened up across from where I work recently and I've enjoyed it, though it is a bit hard on the wallet.
It's not the best I've ever had, but it's a pretty cool concept for a burger chain, and the burgers are insanely huge.
nowhere near me but it does look like a great concept

the reason Applebees sucks is cuz they put two foods together and as a patron u think "hmmm maybe a chef can make those two things good" and its not
so i can go "i like quesidillas" and "i like burgers" so naturally a "quesadilla burger" would be good and a chef would know how to make it good.
no.
it really was a quesadilla with a beef patty in it. it was terrible.

that is sad, there are some really decent local restaurants in the area, there would HAVE to be a place 10 times better than Applebees

The 2 of them went out to eat. I met up for drinks after and that's where they were. The only other info I gathered that night is that Gvac was born in 1955 according to his license

the only "non-chain" restaurant we ate at was some Japanese steak house. but i was really really sick that week so i couldn't indulge in business trip goodness.

i remember being a little kid and my parents taking me to FLA and seeing a billboard for the original Hooters and my parents acting like it was so outrageous and offensive. now, a decade or two later and Hooters is so accepted and tame that it means nothing

You're right. I just looked it up though, and their history is different than I had remembered. I had always thought there were several former Redskins that founded it, but it was a family. The only Redskin involved (and not a founder) is Mark Moseley.
