View Full Version : The Big Bang Theory

In my watching of NBC pilots thru the TiVo this weekend, the third one I saw was The Big Bang Theory and wanted to warn everyone to not watch that pile of shite. Completely awful, completely unfunny, and a laugh track at the end of every sentence. It just reminded me why I don't watch sitcoms and how stupid the people who make television think the American public is.

Ok, the only positive thing is how hot she was. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweigh her hotness. I felt my brain melting out of my ears for watching this shite.

Honestly, with TiVo, I never know what shows are on what channels. The TV just changes automagically for me.

perfect point
maybe Everybody Loves Raymond can be tolerated
but have only watched it since it went to syndication
Their shows (since the Murphy Brown and Designing Women Days)
have been geared to older people who want cookie cutter comedies

no sir we are in it together. there is something seriously wrong with CBS. maybe it is because it is so low on the bandwidth, but the reception is just never there. if i walk into a room with the TV on, i can always tell if it is on CBS (channel 2 here)

I watched it today as well on my Tivo and agree that the show sucks ass. Plus the second male lead (not Johnny Galecki from Roseanne) is exuding a "David Hyde Pierce vibe" - that basically means that I expect to see a cock in his mouth in a future episode.

My roommate's girlfriend watches, so i've caught a few of these. It's not all that bad, the guy who created did Grace Under Fire and something else decent. The turbo nerd kid who is the roommate to the kid from Rosanne was in Garden State as the Knight at medevil times who was boning that one guy's mom. And I saw one of the other guys on an Arrested Development rerun yesterday...

I just had to bump this up, no the show was not great the beginning of the first season, average at best, but since near the end of the first year, and the entire second season, it is as solidly funny as any sitcom on tv.
The episode from last night had laugh out loud moments almost from start to finish, I can't remember the last time a single episode was as funny.

Yeah. The first couple episodes were the worst sitcom writing ever. Somehow between then and now the show changed its focus from "Aren't Nerds Hilarious?" to character-based humor.
I did not even realize until now, that Opie brought the show up today at the beginning of the Xm side. Erock did a terrible job of describing it, but if you want to see a funny sitcom, this one is the best current one that I have seen.

I tried to give this show a chance but I just think its still to standard sitcom-y and hack. It has moments but then just falls back into a rut. It's not a tenth as humorous or well written as How I Met Your Mother in my opinion.

I watch How I sometimes, and it's okay, but I think Big is way smarter, and less sitcom-y then How.
The fact is, you will not find a stranger character in all of television then Sheldon, and the way it is written, is both intelligent and each week, true to the character.
Oh and who cares about a theme song? The show is just plain funny, if you don't think so, oh well.

I like Sheldon, he was the best part about it. But there is no way in the world HIMYM is more sitcom-y. BBT was standard shoot, laugh track, story line. HIMYM uses flashbacks, voiceovers, references, callbacks. You can like BBT more but its 100 times more of a sitcom than HIMYM.

Yes you are right then about the standard old time sitcom, what I meant was more in terms of the writing and how different the show is. Whenever I watch How, it just reminds me of many different shows, where as Big is just not like anything else on tv.

It's okay, we can agree to disagree on this one, I think Sheldon is the most unique character on television, and for that I give credit to the writers, along with the actor.
I will try and catch How more, to see what you were talking about though.

This might be one of the most frustrating shows on TV. It has the potential to be fresh, creative, and something new, but it goes for the easy sitcom, laugh track payoff every time.
And the character of Sheldon is quite possibly the least funny anywhere. He should have the shit beaten out of him constantly.
