well looking back, I guess Durant was the better pick.

sucks to see someone with so much potential start off his career with knee problems

I saw somewhere that someone was thinking this could be a lot like the Spurs when Robinson was out for a year so they ended up with Duncan.

Can you imagine in the Blazers get another lottery pick what their lineup will look like for the next 10 years! This could actually be a blessing, if Oden comes back full strength.

the only problem with that analogy is that the spurs were good if not great in the years before that one year and were again after that year they got duncan

portland has just sucked ass for years, but yeh they will suck again and prob get a top 5 if not top 3 pick which will hopefully improve them

The best thing I've ever heard was Oden said someone was trash talking him and asked him what it was like to fight in the Korean War.

I realize it was hardly an original thought, I'm sure every Trailblazers fan had said pretty much the same thing yesterday. Picking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan still haunts every Portlander old enough to remember.

Who knows? Perhaps instead of being the next Bowie, Oden could be the next Arvydas Sabonis - bad knees and all.

screwed into getting oden and another lottery pick next year. if he comes back fine, it's well worth the wait.

All this "Durant was the better pick" crap, is just that. Neither has played a minute, and Oden is young enough to bounce back from this minor surgery. Anyone heard of Amare Stoudemire, he bounced back just fine.

That is a nasty injury.. Players have not been the same since getting it.. Even Stottlemier has not been the same.. Not nearly as explosive as he was before the surgery.

Minor?? Are you out of your mind?? This injury is anything but Minor.. Especially on a big man.. Ask Patrick Ewing how important your knees are to a big man.. Nothing that takes almost a year to heel is minor..

The initial surgery was exploritory. Minor damage was found and repaired. At his age he will rebound, ha ha, just fine. Stoudemire and Kidd both have bounced back. It is a minor surgury, so don't call me out of my mind. It is nothing, NOTHING, compared to an ACL/MCL repair.

Its a terrible surgery.. Amare has not been the same explosive wise, and Kidd never really had hops to really effect him that way.. I am not saying he can't come back, but its not a slam dunk.. Remember, Amare got hurt twice because of it.. They need to be very careful..

As far as the surgery, it is not at all horrible. It takes less than 30 min. Remember this was not the intent of Oden's surgery. Amare and Kidd were both older than Oden. Both sitll came back to All-Star seasons, and both are still playing.
My point is this, Durant has yet to play a minute. He had questions regarding his strengh in the preseason. Oden has yet to play a minute. He has this minor, by all accounts, knee issue. You can't go naming him Bowie and Durant Jordan just yet.
Any surgery on a knee raises concern, I agree. You just can't throw this kid aside, yet.

The Durant MJ thing is ridiculous.. You see tons of kids with huge talent like that, that never make it... In the NBA you ALWAYS take the big time Center over anyone else.. Even if Durant turns out to be MJ and Oden is never the same, you still can't fault the Blazers for making the pick.. Center, QB, SP, Goalie.. You always pick those pos if a high talent is available.. NO MATTER WHAT!

Or not, as Duncan and Hakeem have proven. I agree with what you are saying, I just don't think this surgery will determine this young man's career.
