View Full Version : Which number for Junior?
Freitag

Hendrick has applied to the US Patent office for five numbers:
81, 82, 51, 58 and 38.
There is also rumbling that 88 could be in the mix as well, with a transfer from Yates after Travis Kvapil saying "he's not sure what the number could be".
81 - Art Monk's number, JR is a big Redskins fan.
82 - Jr's # + His Dad's old number before he went to 3.
51 - No idea.
58 - Hendrick Number + Dale's Number
38 - Dale sr. + Dale Jr.
88 - Duh.
Which number do you like the best?
I'm going with 88, followed by 38.

I never got into the sport, but I follow the news some times.
I voted 38 for his and his father's number. My question though is why not 83? Is that number taken? That would be more logical than 38 because then his number would come first.

Can he get 150? As in 150 booths.
If not, he should go for 81 for Art Monk. I didn't realize Jr. was a Redskins fan. That wins him points in my book.
I like 88, it was one of my HS numbers (because 81 wasn't available).

He can have the 8 the I gave up...seriously though,I think his step-mother is a total cunt for keeping his number,I feel sorry for Mark Martin having to drive that car next year. It's a no-class move for sure.

83 is currently being used by Brian Vickers, who drives the Red Bull Car. 83 is a marketing scheme for Red Bull, because there's 8.3 oz in every can. So it won't be removed.
Isn't 38 Sadler??????
David Gilliland. Sadler left Yates last year and is currently driving for Evernham. That being said, Yates put a transfer request into NASCAR to transfer the number to Hendrick.

Sadler used to be 38, but not this year. I can't remember who has it now, but Hendrick is trying to get the number from that team.

Pepsi is a part-time sponsor for Jeff Gordon.
I can't remember what website I read it on a couple of weeks ago but I think it was like 55% of the time it would be Mountain Dew/Amp, 45% National Guard.

Altho, if he gets #81 that'd be really, really weird for me, since the ex of mine who reminds me of JR and vice versa's work code ID is 81. Yeh, it means nothing to you, its ok.

We'll find out Wed.
http://autoracingsport.com/nascar/earnhardt-jr-to-reveal-sponsors-and-car-no-next-wednesday/#more-4243
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will reveal his 2008 number and sponsors in a news conference at the Dallas Convention Center next Wednesday, Hendrick Motorsports officials announced Thursday.
Sources confirmed earlier that Mountain Dew and the Amp energy drink, both PepsiCo Inc. products, will become two of Earnhardt’s primary sponsors next season.
The announcement is coming in Dallas because PepisCo Inc. executives are having an annual conference there next week.
The National Guard, which now sponsors the No. 25 Chevy of Casey Mears for the Hendrick team, is also expected to move to Earnhardt’s car in 2008.
The No. 25 is being eliminated and Mears is moving the No. 5 Hendrick Chevy, which is sponsored by Kellogg’s.
Earnhardt and team owner Rick Hendrick have managed to keep the new number a secret, except to say the number 8 will be involved in some fashion.
Hendrick Motorsports has requested trademarks from the U.S. Patent Office for five numbers that include an 8 — 81, 82, 38, 58 and 28. The number 28 was requested last week, which led to speculation it’s the choice, but Earnhardt previously said he liked 81.
Hendrick officials and Earnhardt also will reveal his car’s paint scheme for 2008 at the news conference.

i am so lost as to why this is such a big deal. is it a superstitious thing?
Here's the analogy.
Imagine Ken Griffey Junior in his prime. Imagine if Griffey Senior owned the Reds and wanted Junior to play there and eventually own the team.
Griffey senior dies. Junior's step mom takes over. Junior and Stepmom don't get along.
The Reds do OK. Get into the playoffs a few years, but they've missed, and they can be doing so much better. A lot of fingers point that the Reds are relying on their past greatness, name recognition, and marketing rather than actually racing.
Junior is in a contract year. Junior IS the Reds. There's a decent rookie behind him, but other than that, that's IT.
Junior wants ownership of the Reds. Stepmom says no.
Junior says "Forget this" and signs a deal with the Yankees.
Since Junior can't wear the Reds uniform anymore, and he can't wear the same number, that's the significance. It's like designing the uniform and jersey number of your new team.

Did we learn nothing from today's show? 88 has long been used as shorthand for Heil Hitler by white supremacists and skinheads (H being the 8th letter of the alphabet. 88=HH...get it? I never said skinheads were clever). Neo Nazi fucks will frequently have 88 after their signature and some racist punk bands like to throw an 88 in their name or in song titles for the same reason. That's why I say 86 is better: Heil Fezzie. What are we talking about anyways, the number of cc's of cum that people into car racing swallow every day?
