View Full Version : I'm giving away $500.

All right. I've made a decision and I'm going to give someone on this board $500 cold hard cash.
How? Simple.
Find my wife a new job.
I've realized that a lot of people get jobs because they know someone on the inside. So what better way to exploit that be using RF.net?
Of course, the $500 isn't for any job. There's some rules here:
1) The job must be in central or Northern New Jersey, Newark and Jersey City disqualified. One of the issues here is that my wife hates her commute. NYC is also out.
2) The job must be a professional position, 9-5 or similar hours, monday through friday.
3) The job must be at or higher her current salary level. As this is a professional position, you can probably do the math. If you need more info, PM me.
My wife has 6 years of business experience, with project management vendor relationship skills.
She has a degree in English with a minor in Art History.
She'd prefer to work in an educational environment, but her options are wide open.
If you want to learn more, please PM me.
And yes, I'm dead serious. Her happiness is being affected by the job she has now, so she needs to get out.

Good luck on finding the job. I can't help - I'm in Florida.
But, if it doesn't work out, how about second place being the prize goes to the first person to reply to your post?

Although I could see her succeeding there, don't the hours go outside of the 9-5?

Thanks, but no thanks.
My best friend used to work in the hotel industry and didn't particularly care for it.
Because my attitude right now kind of stinks and I describe myself as a misanthrope most of the week, I don't think anything that involves me dealing with people is exactly a good idea right now.

picky, picky, picky
I don't think I have ever met a person who actually worked 9:00AM to 5:00PM.

I'm not sure what, if any, openings Stryker has but they are supposedly all over NJ.
A friend left a job in NY to go there and he's making good coin and they have a lot of good benefits.
They make medical equipment and the like ( actually make the stretchers used by the NFL ).
When he told me about the job I'd have gone but have no desire to travel across the Tappan Zee bridge every day.

I had a great job lined up for her til I saw that minor in art history. Very disappointingly useless.

I thought that became the Route 23 park-and-ride, dude.

I actually double minored - Art History and History. (They were both low-credit minors and I'd always use a History course to fill out my schedule to stay full-time. Why let the credits go to waste?)
If I'd wanted to become a museum docent or something, and those positions weren't primarily volunteer and grad-student types, maybe I'd consider that.

I heard manufacturing jobs are on a downturn, dude.
And I don't do manufacturing. Matty doesn't exactly understand what it is that I do, so we're having a lot of trouble with my resume.
Currently, I'm my job title is editor. (I think; they're changing my responsibilities every day, so pretty soon I won't even be that anymore. My guess is that in 2008, I'll be demoted to "Operations Analyst Trainee" which is really insulting, considering the fact that I was officially past the trainee period for that position in December 2001. Six months after I was hired.)

The Stryker jobs I was refering to were in Finance not manufacturing.
I was just giving the background on what kinda company they are.
My buddy worked in Finance in his old job and wasn't by any means an accountant and they took him so I'm sure they are always interested in people w/ a professional background.

Liz - I'll keep an eye out at my company (in East Windsor, would be a decent commute). Nothing is open right now that would suit your skills, but I know occasionally I see research positions and other types of fact checking, editing and proofreading, etc. come up.
edit - oh and when you say 9-5, I'm assuming 8:30-5:30, 9-6, 9-5:30, etc is ok. Hours are 8:30-5:30 at my job with an hour unpaid lunch. Haven't found any companies lately that will offer the 9-5 with a paid lunch

That's what I mean hour-wise, 9-5 just being a general term.. Standard 8-hour day shift. She worked 7:30-3:30 and I work 8-4.
Thanks Missy.

I've got an opening in San Antonio. Might be a bit of a commute, though. Plus, I require a bilingual candidate.
