View Full Version : Fried Hard drive data recovery
I foolishly plugged the wrong power supply into my external hard drive and as a result I fried it. I have tried removing the actual hard drive from the case and plugging it into another extrernal hard drive case but it won't even spin, nothing.
Does anyone know of a data recovery place that I can send this drive to that isn't terribly expensive ?

I'm afraid that doesn't exist.

Did you try putting it in the freezer for an hour and then plugging it in? Im not joking at all.
I have heard about that and I will give it a try, but I think my drive has a power supply problem, not a mechanical issue.

I have a code at home for 10% off Drive Savers, if you want to use them, but I can't guarantee they'll be cheap.

Rich I used to have a small side buisness trying to get old hard drives to work. when you remove it from the case, and try to plug it in, is it even reconized in the BIOS?
also, do you have an exact replica of the drive. is the stuff on it that important? PM me if you want to mail it here and let me look at it. i can not promise anything. I know those data places charge around 1k per drive for data recovery

we went to some guy in harlem (like 128th and convent) working out of his living room we found thru the internet. he said 50-75. we said all we cared about was the pictures we had on the hard drive, nothing else. he made like 8 dvd's (turned out he recovered almost no pictures and a bunch of other crap) and told us it was going to be $250. we left and said we'd mail him the money and never looked back once we found out he didn't put the pics on the dvd's as we'd requested. i guess the only thing i have to say is don't go to some guy in harlem working out of his living room.
