So, I was on the GCP today, just passing LaGuardia, when i heard what i thought was a french police siren. I looked in my mirror and there was a car coming up behind me with lights on. I thought it was perhaps a park police car or something. But as it passed me I saw that it was infact a NYPD patrol car. Has the old familiar sound been replaced with a more euro-sound?

If youre talking about the doppler effect type of siren, we've had it for awhile.
It's one of 4 sirens we can choose from. All 4 are in every car.
The more common screaming siren.
The "football fan" horn sounding siren. (kinda like a "wrong answer" sound on a game show).
A hyper sounding dual tone fast siren.
and the euro-sounding doppler siren.
oh, and the car horn. We have that option as well.
It's up to the individual car operator which one he wants to use when.
(as a reminder, when u hear one coming up behind you, pull to the RIGHT...whether or not you "did anything". It's more likely theyre trying to pass you. Thank you.)

Is one of the horn options "AHOOGA!!!"?
BTW... About the pulling over thing. I'm always very good about getting out of the way for police and emergency vehicles. What pisses me off is when the cars behind me decide to go after the vehicle passes them, but hasn't passed me yet. If there's a lot of traffic, I end up getting stuck there forever!
One more thing... I don't know how it is in other states, but in VA, when you pass a cop that has someone pulled over, you are required to move to the left lane (unless it's not safe). I see people ignoring this all the time. At least they finally started making the cops park at an angle, to help shield them from traffic.

It's not a law here, but a damn good idea. My partner was clipped once.
And yeah, I hate when people get right behind an ambulance or other emergency vehicle; riding their coat tails, as it were. No one better tailgate ME..I'll slam on the brakes.

One of my brothers old school buddies was a VA State Trooper. He was giving someone a ticket and sleeping trucker ran over his car while he was sitting it it. Completely flattened the car and him. Very tragic.
