Well, it's about that time. The games count from now on.

We are relatively healthy, with Portis, Samuels and Marcus Washington all participating fully in today's practice.

I really like the addition of Pete Kendall, as it addresses a glaring hole at left guard.

The defense has to improve and must find some way to get pressure on the opposition's QB.

Bring on the Dolphins! Hail to the Redskins!

I can't wait for the game tonight. With the Giants at 0-2 and coming into FedEx next week, it would be nice to send the Eagles to the cellar with them.

I have a good feeling about this game, but for no particular reason. It's going to be a big test.

Some things I REALLY liked about this game...

1. Consistently had good field position to start a series.
2. With the exception of the 3 penalties on the same down (and they made the TD anyway), I don't think they had any penalties!
3. Three sacks.
4. Shots of sad Eagles fans!!!!!!

2-0 BABY!!!!:clap::thumbup:

Landry can bring it! He and Taylor, hands down the nastiest safety duo in the league.

My ultimate joy tonight came from the disappointment that was pouring from Jaws pores...he is the biggest homer, douche announcer I have ever heard. Go back to running the Soul and get off MNF, oh he is such a fing sore loser.

Congrats!

You guys shut down our passing game, and since we only have Westbrook to run the ball, the game was yours as soon as you got our defense wore out.

Andy Reid is a jackass-I didn't see a single Eagle WR in motion to deflect the never-ending hit and run coverage. McNabb can't scramble out of the pocket like he did before his ACL surgery, so its up to the recievers to GET OPEN!

So way to go to totally have our offensive strategy figured out in the first 5 minutes of the game. Wasn't too hard though, I had it figured after our first 3 and out.

Absolutely dominating performance today. I can't believe how good the defense is compared to last year.

But for one terrible half against the Giants, they'd be 4-0. 3-1 feels pretty great though.

Next week @ GB. The Packers are going good right now, but I think the defense can shut them down. They don't run the ball well, so we can go after Favre and let Taylor and the boys continue to ballhawk.

The GB game was brutal. Our defense shut them down, but the offense failed again in the 2nd half.

The injuries on offensive line continue to mount. Casey Rabach and Todd Wade both aren't practicing this week, but hope to play on Sunday.

I thought Campbell played alright. He missed a few open passes, but the drops were even more costly. As far as the end of the game, we had no offensive line at that point. Moss was atrocious. I expect him to have a big game against the Cardinals if he is relatively healthy.

We have to win this game. Can't lose to a team, at home, with Tim Rattay as the starting QB. With New England looming, 4-2 would be much more comfortable than 3-3.

Gotta be pleased that they are 5-3. They have won ugly against some bad teams. My expectations going into the season were pretty low, so I'm ok with where they are. This is a playoff type defense...just waiting for the offense to wake up and score some TDs.

Waste of timeouts, stupid penalties at bad times, overly conservative play-calling and bad decisions to go for 2 point conversions.

This Joe Gibbs coaching staff steals money every week. They really must be one of the worst coached offenses in the league.

Yes, but apparently play-calling is a collaborative effort, especially in the red zone. Play-calling by committee...why hasn't anyone else tried this before?

I'm not sure exactly what Joe Gibbs does to help the team anymore. He's a blame taker and an excuse maker. The Cowboys are gonna shoot em full of holes, and fill em full of lead.

For crying out loud! They don't even know if the shooter knew him. His lawyer said he was sleeping in the bedroom with his g/f and baby. He heard noises and went to the bedroom door with a machete. One shot hit the wall (thank God it didn't hit the baby), and the other hit him in the groin.

I don't think it's a medically induced coma. They are saying he's "non responsive". And yeah... There will most likely be brain damage if he lives.

I wasn't shocked. Perhaps a little surprised, but certainly not shocked. I'm not saying that he deserved it (he certainly didn't), but if you had told me a Redskins player had been shot, he would've easily been the first one that I guessed.

I don't know how Wilbon phrased what he said, but how can you get on him for saying that he wasn't surprised by this? Based on Taylor's history, how could you be very surprised?

Again, I haven't heard what Wilbon said, so I can only comment on the generality that he was not surprised due to Taylor's past. He is either right or wrong in saying this, I don't think timing has anything to do with it.

My first concern for was for Sean Taylor's life when I heard the news. I'm sure Wilbon's initial reaction was the same. However, he is a writer/commentator and is paid to comment on or analyze stories in-depth.

If you had heard "Redskin player shot...", who would you have guessed?

(Brandon Lloyd's 2 seasons have been awful, but not assassination-worthy)

Scary....

Taylor was in such bad shape that he flatlined twice, once before he got to the hospital and again upon arriving, both from loss of blood, according to a team official who asked not to be identified.

And Promising...

"He was responsive to the doctor's request to squeeze his hand and show facial expressions, so the doctors were very happy about that," Vinny Cerrato, vice president of football operations, told reporters in a conference call from Miami. "That was some positive news that the doctors brought to us."

And Promising...

The scary thing about this is that i might have been pre meditated and planned.. Twice Taylor had to leave the team because of break ins.. His phone lines and other things were cut... Alot of players homes are starting to get robbed.. A bunch in Chi town.. A couple Giants got robbed in a neighborhood of a guy that i know.. These athletes have to start hiring full time body guards.. And not lackey clingers and entourage type.. Professional. I really hope the kid pulls through... If he does, this could be the wake up call the kid needs, to make sure the rest of his life goes well.

There's two realms of thought about this:

Wilbon says that he wouldn't believe any company's PR spin (i.e. the Redskins) that this was just a break in. He blamed Taylor's past behavior and the crowd he hung out with that led to this.

But this is NOT like the Darrent Williams case, where he was out clubbing and in the heat of the moment, guns came out.

This was a premeditated burglary attempt into a man's home. Whether the shooting was premeditated is unknown.

Taylor's injury is consistent with one of three things: 1) a struggle or 2) shooter was a bad shot or 3) shooter wanted to hurt Taylor.

It's sad, but Wilbon's also close to the Redskins, so he may know more than he was letting on. I just think his timing was horrifically bad. He can start saying this maybe tomorrow or the day after, but not when the guy is hanging on by a thread.

Wait, WHAT?

Yeah. Cowboys fan. You're a genius. It was a little off-setting joke, because Sandy's death was one of the most shocking moments on Growing Pains, but whatever.

There's no denying that Taylor was a very good football player. But putting him in the same league as two HOF players when Taylor's only had 2 1/2 seasons in the league is a little much, don't you think?

He was a well-liked person by his team, and apparently getting his life in order. But be very careful about whose company you put him into.

And it obviously shows how much you know about football, when you talk about DB being the same as an LB. I think the proper analogy would be Lott and Sanders, if you were making the comparison.

Didn't you leave, anyway?

That's a very noble sentiment. I truly respect that. But to be blunt and honest, his effect on me by his passing is directly linked to him being a redskin and how he played a huge role on this team. Other than that, my reaction would have been the same as when I read about other seemingly senseless deaths in DC. That being of a minor sense of sadness for the victims' family and regret that someone in their prime was taken down. I didn't know Taylor as a person, only as a warrior on Sunday afternoon.
A lot of locals are already blaming taylor himself for his own demise. I think at this point
placing blame is inappropriate and irrelevant. He's dead and for all of us who truly enjoyed his play and personality on the field are sad today.
Whether we find out he had it coming as payback for earlier actions, or whether he is another innocent victim of a home invasion doesn't change the fact that his 18 month child no longer has a father, and football fans know that we no longer have one of the hardest hitting defenders in the league.

Im hearing more and more about phone lines being cut during home invasions.
Thats scary stuff. Sadly, I think there is more to this story.

Someone left a knife on Taylor's bed in that house a few weeks ago after breaking in.

Im hearing conflicting reports about the gf. ( neice of Andy Garcia I believe)
First I heard she slept through it all. I thought that sounded odd.

Then I heard she woke up and tried to call 911 - found out the phone was cut and used his cell phone to call the fuzz.

Sick. the whole story is.

ESPN confirmed the cut phone line thing, but ESPN also said that Vick wouldn't be in indicted.

I think, just like the Benoit case, it's way too early to figure out what happened, except someone was in the house who didn't belong there, something went bad, and Taylor got shot.

Peter King was on Carton and Boomer this morning discussing it, and said how people may feel slighted in the old neighborhood when someone makes it big and forgets about them.

My question is - if the first break in is legitimate - did Taylor get the police involved?

Wait, WHAT?

Leave? and let the inmates/douche bags take over the asylum? surely you jest. Your level of knowledge regarding talent in the NFL is best illustrated by you putting Sean Talyor in the same category as Deon "no hitter" Sanders. Deon Sanders prided himself on the fact that he would play entire games without hitting anyone. Taylor on the other hand became a pro bowler because he hit people.
I put Sean Taylor in the same league as Lawrence Taylor not because they have the same last name but because they both had the same effect on offense coordinators. That being that game planning was done AROUND these two feared defenders. Coaches would actually design plays away from these two. If you watch recevers over the middle. they too would get alligator arms when either taylor was in the vicinity. Sean Taylor played without the benefit of snorting copious amounts of COCAINE before games as Lawrence Taylor admitted to doing. So who knows how really intense LT would have played without his COKE? Deon Sanders? please. You may have a case for Ronnie Lott, but keep in mind Lott had a much better supporting cast than Taylor did, where Lott could freelance a lot more than they let Taylor. Now I gotta get accupunture, so feed on this for awhile. I'll be checking later, freitag.

What a horrific story. It made me sick when I flipped on ESPN news and saw in the bottom corner he was dead. I don't think any of us have the diction to describe the senselessness of this act.

As far as a football player ( My chick is a Skins fan so I (get stuck, haha) watch them every week) he was downright nasty. He was fearless, a real throw back player, such an exciting and rare tatlent to watch. I actually looked forward to watching the Skins on defense becasue of him. I have no doubt he would have excelled at his position for the next 10 years andwas on his way to a Hall of Fame career.

He was as tough as they come. This is a very sad day.

Please cut the nonsense arguing.. This is not about you or nonsense bickering. This is about a young man who went way before his time. Made even sadder by the fact that he had seemed to turn his life around, after the birth of his daughter. He was a great safety, and will be missed. When ever you watched the skins, he was the player you kept your eye on, when the d was on the Field.. You expected a great hit on every play.. It sucks that we wont ever see him on the Field again. It sucks that his daughter will grow up without a father. At least he left her with enough money to be taken care of all her life, even though that will never substitute for the fact of not getting to know her father.

Just for the record, and no pissing was ever intended on this thread, and leave bulldogcakes alone. he actually is one of the reasons why I log onto this site. funny, insightful, with a sharp edge, I was just defending #21 posthumously, Sean Taylor grew up middle class in Fla. His father was chief of police, but he was actually raised by his mother's family in a wholesome, working class environment. His high school teachers state that he was a delight to have in the classroom. He was probably a good guy. He was a great football player, tragically outdone by a thug. I give him full credit for apparently grabbing a machete and trying to protect his daughter and girlfriend. That's heroic.

Here are some things to ponder. May I preface my remarks with the fact that regardless of what we learn really happened, he is dead and his daughter lost her father and we lost a great football player. Now with that, isnit it odd that:

1) he was shot in the groin? this is not a target area to kill someone. 2 to the chest, 1 to the forehead. thats the SOP for killing someone. Shooting a groin is more an act of maliciousness, like cutting off a penis that has been misbehaving, a la lorena bobbit.
2) his grilfriend claims, like Sgt. Schultz, that she "saw nothing, knows nothing".

Point: could she have been the shooter? crimes of passion have no logic. So for her to murder her future meal ticket was not a factor. Do I think she did it? nah.

So, how do you explain the cut telephone wires?

1) First of all, telephone wires are used not only for phones, but also for alarms systems.I always thought that newly cut telephone wires would automatically activate the alarm and summon the police. The reason why the police did not respond was because the wires were cut 8 days previously. Talyor was then in DC, and upon his return this week probably did not get around to fixing the wires. He probably thought the chance of anyone having the nerve to strike again, and with him there, were slim.

Had he really turned to the straight and narrow?

1) unknown, but apparently along the way he had made some very angry enemies.
2) angry enough to shoot him in the groin and not steal anything.

Conclusion.
1) this was not a robbery, burglary, or attempted rape. This was RETRIBUTION for something that happened between Taylor and an unknown assailant. Nothing stolen, a shot to the groin, and a quick getaway. possibly without the intent to murder him, just maim him. A planned hit to make a point. nothing more, nothing less.

Time will tell, and like I said, all the speculation in the world won't bring him back. It's all so avoidable. A real shame.

It pains me to state the obvious, but Gibbs is an embarassment. He's asked to do so little with the coaching staff that they have assembled, but consistently manages to cost his team with awful decisions.

It didn't matter as much to me whether they won or lost today, but to lose that way is painful. If he drills a 51-yarder, at least he earned it.

I gotta weird feeling Joes double time out was on purpose so he could shoulder the blame and lift it from the players since they've been through alot.

Or the old bat is losing his mind. But I know the kind of guy Joe Gibbs is. Everyone in DC who is a fan does.
Is it that far fetched?

Joes sittin' there thinking - ok he just made the 51 yrd field goal but it doesnt count.
He'll probably nail it again and the players will be crushed.
If I call a bonehead play - I can take the blame and the players can be upset with me instead of themselves.

I can't remember exactly. It was mostly about how people had piled on him before anyone knew what happened. He kept mentioning people who said "the weren't surprised". He said something about him becoming mature for the past year and half, and that people who have been mature for much longer than that could have shown more tact.

Or was it just this game..It would have been a great story for the Skins to be able to win one for a fallen teammate...But by the fourth quarter their shit got old...just go back to the fucking huddle already...Trent Edwards fumbled the snap and the Bills still recovered...But Marcus Washington dancing around like a maniac was embarassing...Just show a little class...Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas would just toss the ball to the ref after a TD...act like you've been there before....I sound like my fucking father now...lol...The players should just maybe focus more on winning, instead of trying to draw more attention to themselves....I never thought I'd say this, but Blowhard may be right on the mark....but what the hell do I know.

Marcus Washington is that type of player. He does his little dance after every tackle. He does get carried away, but he's a player that plays off of emotion and he needs that fire. I don't think its something he is doing on purpose to draw attention, I think its more second nature. But I can see your point, but its not going to change.

Regarding the Skins defense taking the field with only 10 players on the first play to honor Taylor - Gibbs sounded pissed off at Greg Williams. Saying something to the effect of " I didnt know anything about that. I think it's best Greg & I talk behind closed doors before really making a comment"

Also alot of people were chanting "joe must go" after the game.

Playoffs is correct! I might be a homer but I think that the Skins have a legit shot at making it to the NFC Championship game. I think they go into Seattle and win, and then we get Dallas without TO maybe? Or at least a less then 100% TO, and that is a very winnable game. Then its to Green Bay most likely and that is a team that we should have beaten if we could have held onto the damn football.

Of course the Skins could go into Seattle and lay an egg, but its not out of the realm of possiblity that they could get to the Super Bowl.

Snyder is turning into the Peter Angelos of the NFL: except that he continues to make money hand over fist.

You Skins fans should be focusing your wrath at getting that bug-eyed, lickspittle Vinny Cerrato fired.

Knowledged_one

Dan Snyder is nothing like Peter Angelos

the redskins have been in the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years and have a good young nucleus in place. I liked Gregg Williams but he was a failure as a head coach before and was from all reports a prick

Greg Blatche gets hired as D Coord and will keep the contiinuity

Not to mention Snyder spends money every year to make this team better and while all news reports focus on the bad signins the redskins have had (and there are a few) he has also made great signings over the last few years like Marcus Washington, Cornelius Griffin, Shawn Springs, Antwaan Randle El, Casey Rabach, and they have made good trades to get Santana Moss and Pete Kendall.

The media in my opinion gives Snyder a hard time out of jealousy the guy is younger then most of these sports people and is a billionaire owner of a largely succesful sports franchise. If you look at the history since Snyder has taken over he has gotten much much better

Now Vinny Cerrato on the other hand he mus thave pics of Snyder doing a horse while getting f'ed with a strap on by anna Nicole Smith

They almost always have a good nucleus in place. Then Snyder brings in a new coach every couple of years and the whole team gets shook up. They explain away their bad record by calling it a "building year". They finally start to look decent, then Snyder gets a new coach again. I'm sick of this shit cycle.

I do not know i you heard this Papa.. I was listenin to Joe and Evan (WFAN NY talk show) And they said that during his interview, he bad mouthed Gibbs... That too me looks like the dumbest thing ever done.. Williams denies it but there has to be some truth to it.. I mean it was basically a formality that Williams was going to be the head coach.. And its not like he did a bad job with the D... If Spagnoula gets your job, i would not mind having williams as our D coord.. Btw.. Have they interviewed a minority coach yet?

PapaBear
01-28-2008, 06:49 PM
They interviewed Singletary, and I think one other minority.

Knowledged_one

They interviewed Singletary, and I think one other minority.

Wrong they interviewed Ron Meeks and are actually going to interview him again

And they need to get rid of the Rooney rule, it was great when it first started but now there is no bias on who gets hired and to me its more of a slap in the face of black coaches who get a token interview or everyone interviews Dennis Green, it has now set football back on this because if you really want to hire someone and everyone knows it you still have to trot out a black interview

And i believe that Williams was granted permission by the redskins to interview for the Rams D Coord position

And skins fans should feel good about the schedulenext year

Giants(x2), Eagles(x2), Cowboys(x2), at Baltimore, at Cincinatti, cleaveland at home, Pittsburgh at home, at Seattle, at Arizona, 49ers at home, Rams at home, then they play Detroit at home i believe and at Carolina (those last two may be flip flopped)

So with all the turnover they should have a good shot at the playoffs again next year

With the NFC east.. No schedual is a good one.. Giants.. I know its crazy to say that a SB champ will be even better next year, but they will. Cowboys are good.. Philly finished the year playing as good as any team in the NFL.. This is by far the best div in football.. And as we know with the NFL, you never know what team is going to be good or great.. You can't judge a schedual on sept let alone feb..
