Yee hah! I'm down! I love this stuff; it's pure Americana, and so much better than the "pop" country that is pushed today.

A few more Classic Country Legends:

Jimmie Rodgers
Marty Robbins
Conway Twitty

Hell yeah, Heckler! It was a staple of 1050 WHN radio in the '70's, along with classics like Mac Davis' "Oh Lord It's Hard To Be Humble (When You're Perfect In Every Way)".

Good times.

That list is a who's who of my mom's favorite musicians.

I'm not really into the old country music, except for Patsy Cline (how can you not enjoy her music?), Jim Reeves, and occasionally Marty Robbins.

I miss "Hee Haw". I was in love with Barbi Benton, and just when I was "almost finished", Minnie Pearl would appear on the screen! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

i love it, though apparently not as much as heckler and gvac, since i only really listen to hank, willie, waylon, emmylou, and jonny cash when it comes to old school country (i'm probably leaving some out). but it seems back in the day music had a soul, and somewhere along the line that soul got filtered out. even garth brooks has more soul than most country acts these days!!

Heck-You knew I would repsond to this didn't you? How could I not, going to a college that is famous for a bar called the "Dixie Chicken". Anyway, I love most of those singers. That was real country, that's what I grew up hearing. I thought Willie Nelson sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" for along time! But I will leave you with my favorite part of a David Allan Coe song, "You Don't Have to Call Me Darlin":WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN'T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
OR TRAINS,
OR TRUCKS,
OR PRISON,
OR GETTING' DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

CHORUS:
AND I'LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING' IN THE RAIN
NO, A' YOU DON'T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN', DARLIN'
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME
WELL I WONDER WHY YOU DON'T CALL ME
WHY DON'T YOU EVER CALL ME BY MY NAME
:)
