Anyone remember The Thunderbirds? It was the inspiration for Team America: World Police. I saw an episode of this '60s "children's" show last night that included lots of puppets smoking, drinking, gambling and shooting guns at each other.

If you've got Cablevision and an HD box, you can see it every other night at 10PM on channel 722. The other nights they show UFO, another show created by Gerry Anderson but it has real people instead of puppets. Both shows also feature sets and props designed by Derek Meddings, the guy who did all the cool sets and props for the early James Bond films.

Anderson made several other puppet shows in the '60s, including Captain Scarlet. Now there's a new CGI revival of Captain Scarlet that shows on channel 723 every night at 9:30. It's a pretty dark and violent sci-fi/action show that has the look of a video game.

These are Voom channels. If you've got a satellite service that carries Voom, you can see them on the channels called 'Family room' and 'Animania'.

I like that old tv would show characters as people, rather than the white washed versions they use today. Puppets smoking and drinking. Warner Bros characters smoking and shooting guns. Our world has become way too pc.

In the Thunderbirds episode last night, Jeff Tracy (the gray-haired dad/boss) was offered a drink to which he replied, "Whiskey, on the rocks." He was trying to work out a deal to help someone who lost her fortune playing roulette in the first scene. That first scene also had one character lighting another's cigarette (they're main hero characters) and at the end, the lady who lost her fortune and got it back was right back at the roulette wheel gambling it away again, this time smoking a cigar.

It's so un-PC that it's funny to watch.

what is the name of the channel?

Family Room.

It's channel 722 on Cablevison and you can only get it with an HD cable box. You don't need an HDTV -- the HD box will send a standard NTSC signal to a conventional TV -- but only the HD boxes can receive the HD channels. If you trade in your standard cable box for an HD box, you'll get a few more channels regardless of whether or not you have an HDTV.

It's a Voom (http://www.voom.tv/) channel so it's also on Dish Network.

That was a good YouTube clip. Gotta love all those explosions!!!

Maybe more carriers will pick up Voom. I really lucked out by having the only cable service that carries it.
