Anybody watch the fights last night?
Great win by Patrick Cote (Cote! Cote! Cote!) over Kendall Grove. He SHOULD have done a little dance over that punk ass Grove just like Grove did after winning his fight. No class, no respect. One thing I really admire about fighters is that after the match, they're almost always respectful towards each other.
Joe Stevenson rolled it up, as expected, and that Roger Huerta fight was a joke.
GSP over Koshcheck was the highlight for me. I can't stand Josh, and it was great to see him get smothered for 3 rounds. GSP wiped the smile right off that jagoff's face, and I loved it.
It doesn't look like it would have made a difference, but the Couture/Gonzaga fight should have been stopped and declared a no contest, because Gonzaga's nose was broken accidentally during that throw by Randy's head. I like Randy and I thought Gonzaga had a real chance to beat him, and people will say that Randy was smothering him against the cage and would have won the fight anyway, but I think that without the broken nose that Gonzaga might have figured out a way to spin off the cage and make a fight out of it. And, how can Herb Dean take a point away for grabbing the cage without a warning first? UFC is getting very shaky and very Don King-esque these days.
Like when Joe Rogan was gushing about Sean Sherk's conditioning. Joe: Sherk just got busted testing positive for the juice. Take off your kneepads and tell it straight, brother.
And another thing: they tell you that you can go to UFC.com and watch the prelims today. I just went over there, and they're charging $1.99 per fight to watch. That is some weak ass sauce right there. I paid 30 something dollars for the PPV, and now they want another couple of bucks from me? It's getting so that you can't follow any sport anymore without feeling like you're getting ripped off.
They advertised an upcoming card featuring Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin, and it's going to be in Cincinnati. How the hell does Franklin get the shit kicked out of him - his nose ended up over by his ear in that fight - and then get a rematch for the belt in his home town? That's fucked up.
The promo for the next season of TUF with Serra and Hughes looks awesome. I can't stand that hayseed Hughes. White people are so scared of black people.

I miss PRIDE. Hate having to watch my fighters with terrible camera angles or clouded through a fence, the ref always walking in front of the camera because the cameramen are limited to overhead shots not able to film from ring level through the ropes, people pinned against a fence for hours on end. The octigon gimmik is played out and needs to go.
That being said the main event was a great fight, I think a rematch is in order because the broken nose was not really intentional. Could have gone either way short of that.

The huerta fight was actually great technically speaking.
and I hate that shit with gonzaga its all the gonzaga nuthuggers are saying on sherdog as well, if you watch the entire first round you can hear herb dean yelling at gonzaga to stop holding the fence so when he did it again the 2nd he deserved to have a point taken away, the entire first period herb is yelling "dont hold the fence dont hold the fence" yes he didnt warn him in the 2nd when he did it, but if you are warning him throughout the first with it then fuck it deduct him.
Glad Cote finally came through with a win, guy is a good fighter just makes dumb mistakes and isn't really sound in his boxing, goes for alot of knockout punches, but Kendall is so cocky.
I was sad and happy at the same time when GSP won, I do like Kos but I like GSP as well. GSP will probably fight one more time maybe against Karo and then get another shot at the belt after the serra/hughes match.
Franklin is getting another chance because 1) he was the UFC coverboy and dana white loves pumping up his boys. 2) because there is absolutely no one else for silva to face right now in the UFC, who is he going to face? Swick? Lindland? (never coming back to UFc cause Dana hates him) Filho? still in WEC and wants to stay there. and Hendo is too busy at LHW right now, so naturally the next choice is Franklin all over again and then possibly Hendo after him.

I thought the Huerta fight was pretty decent because it showed Huerta owning the ground with a BJJ world champion.
Gonzaga deserved a point deduction for the whole "I can't see, now I can see" thing.

Agreed that Huerta showed good technical skills, but that opponent didn't have the stamina or the chin to be in the ring against him.
I didn't hear Herb Dean warning him - and I didn't read Sherdog this morning - so if he was warned, take a point. Hey, I'm all for saying before the match "if you grab the fence, you're losing a point", and then taking the point. They all grab fence, it's a natural instinct.
And I don't mind Franklin getting another shot, I just don't see why it has to be in Cincinnati. Seems like a pretty big hometown advantage. I understand that UFC wants to sell tickets, but they would sell out that fight anywhere they put it. They can't do it in Brazil, so at the very least it should be neutral site.
I think Silva will probably win anyway.

Does anyone else wonder what the UFC wold be like if there was more of a "Ladder" structure to the standings? I mean Silva is a great fighter, and he made Franklin's nose look like playdoh, but he took the title in his second UFC fight. Is boxing all willy-nilly like this?

Silva had such a great background though he deserved the shot and really the middleweight division in UFC is sparse compared to the other division, like i said in my above post, Lindland left, filho aint there, hendo busy with LHW. So there was no one else to get a shot before silva, maybe Marquandt but thats about it. Kang could also get a shot but again not in UFC. Swick not even close to being ready, I mean for gods sake they threw Quarry at Franklin.
The ladder structure doesnt work because of their being so many other organizations out there. I mean thats like saying Fedor comes into the UFC and needs to climb the ladder to face Couture can't work like that.

Silva will win his boxing is way to precise and franklin doesnt have the chin to contend. No one in UFC has Silva's precise striking ability, he is just to good, i hope Hendo moves back down after the Rampage fight and faces Silva, i mean could you imagine Hendo holding all 4 belts at once?? That would be insane and very possible.
With Huerta, dana is building him up i mean he was the freaking SI cover boy. So what he is doing is throwing him dogs to build up his record to be impressive then throw him in with the big boys during a big draw make tons of money off of it and bam he gets destroyed, he is very overrated right now.

You're assuming that Hendo is going to beat Rampage. That's no given.
