View Full Version : HBO Show You Most Want Back From The Dead

Which HBO show do you most want back? HBO had a number of damned good shows that they cut off and I'm focusing on the short lived HBO shows. Shows like Six Feet Under had a good run and great finale. Sopranos, despite Mafialife Chris' wishes, really ended up meandering during its final seasons in an attempt to present itself as "deep." (Seriously, those final 10 episodes could have been cut to two 2-hour movies like the Deadwood "plan" and nothing would have been lost.) I'm including Rome because, even though it had a wrap-up, it only had two seasons and could have gone for more.
My easy answer would be Carnivale but I really would have loved to see JfC S2, so I'm torn between those two. I would still adore seeing the return of Deadwood. And Lucky Louie...well, I guess a second season would have been nice but not something I'm particularly passionate about.
Shows like Mr. Show/Tenacious D, a bit too far past to warrant a return.

Deadwood. I finally watched the third season on DVD and I want more. I don't care if it's movies or another season, I want a good ending to it.

Not exactly an answer to your question BUT about 10 years ago there was a show on HBO it was in Black and White set in the late 50 about a guy and his wacky friends and family Kind of an off color Honeymooners type of show scheming and wheeling and dealing and losing in the end.
Wonder if anyone remembers this or can name it for me.

As much as I loved that show, I'd actually argue that it lasted a couple years too long.

Dream on, starring Brian Benben was the reason I subscribed to hbo in the 1st place. Well we all remember Dream On, the first time a lot of us youngins got constant boobie shots, but the show last for years. This is for shows axed before its time.

"Oz: The New Class"?

"Oz: The New Class"? The first season would only have McManus from Oz Old School, then the second season Beecher would come back as McManus' wacky sidekick.

does anybody remember a show called hardcore tv . mad funny show it was what snl could be if it was on cable Holy fuck, that show was real? I thought it just came from somewhere in my warped mind since no one else remembered it. It had dirty fairy tales, a parody of Raging Bull called Raging Bullwinkle, a National Geographic-esque special on old porn theaters. That's all I remember, I was probably less than 10 when it was on.

I'd have to say Carnivale. The first season kinda dragged on but second season really picked up the pace and every episode was awesome. Of course, something was suppose to happen with the Atomic bomb or something.

Not to mention it would probably be the easiest to get back into production regardless of the time off. Bob and David aren't exactly busy of late either.

I went with Lucky Louie because it was the only one on the list I wanted to see get a better opportunity. It felt to me like HBO just used it for some space. But I honestly liked it. I am glad that "The Minor Accomplisments of Jackie Woodman" is on IFC. Laura Kightlinger was my favorite actress on the Lucky Louie set. And who wouldn't want to hit that? She's funny and HOT!

I vote for john from cincy. I agree with the 2 of you. Does anyone really remember that horse shit of a show? When it was on tv most of this board hated it and for good reason, it sucked bad. HBO gave it a real shot. They let it air all its episodes and they sucked. That may have been one of the worst shows on TV EVER.

I put LL because it was a recent one season show. I didn't hate it, I love CK and JN, and did think it was somewhat finding footing near the end though it didn't completely connect yet. I wouldn't have minded for it to get another season but of all the shows mentioned, it was totally the one that least deserved it.
I did end up voting Carnivale though JFC was a close second. Brother Justin might have been one of the greatest characters on television ever.

I voted Rome - maybe my favorite series of all time... but I almost consider that impossible. I also dont want to mess with a show that actually ended the series in a reasonable well thought out way. I would much rather it end that way then with some stupid cliffhanger.
As for the other shows - I loved Deadwood season 1, totally was bored after that...
I liked Lucky Louie as well, but mainly just Norton. It was almost too real to enjoy... which is sort of a backhanded compliment.
I watched every John from Cincinnatti and I liked it - but never understood a thing...
