I am in my leagues world series this week. The game is a two week head to head match up with no lineup changes. I have everything set except for my third outfielder. I have to choose between Gary Matthews Jr and Barry Bonds. The Angels are playing the yanks, Texas and Toronto at home and Seattle on the road. The Giants are playing Fla today then Colorado, Chicago and Milwaukee at home and Washington on the road. They both have 13 games.
I am leaning towards Matthews as he will play more ( Bonds will probably rest at least three games) and he has been playing well the past few weeks. My concern with Matthews is he has been nicked (Ann Difranco I know) up at times this year. If you had this choice who would you go with?
Oh one other contest would be to use Myers or Izzy as my closer. I am leaning towards Myers.

myers as the closer.
and depending on your need for home runs and or walks, i would go with bonds. if you do not have a lot of other guys who walk a lot, or if OBP is counted in your league, how you can you wrong even if he does sit 3 games or so.

Yeah it kind of depends on your scoring system. If you're doing roto and OBP or OPS is one of the categories, then Bonds can pretty much win you that one by himself. That's nice. On the other hand, if you feel you need help across a broader base of categories or are in a points league where playing more games can give you an advantage, I'd go with Matthews Jr.

I agree, you know more of what you're going to get with Bonds, even with the days off, than you would with Matthews. I would also stick with Myers. He's more likely to get a couple of Ks with a save than Izzy would. I'm assuming this is a points based league?

Yeah its total points not categories.

Myers should get in a few solid closing situations with this Mets series coming up, especially with the amount of suck that Tom Gordon has been bringing to the table, but nobody can touch my boy El Pulpo - Antonio Alfonseca has cracked me up all season with that pot belly (that almost rivals Uncle Charlies), the extra fingers, and his 9th inning 3rd strike out celebratory moves. Makes watching the Phightins so much more enjoyable haha.

Matthews wound up with 32 and Izzy with 46 points total... 78 points
Bonds 24 and Myers 21 for 55 points...
As always I made the wrong choice... I wound up losing by 39 points so it didn't matter... Carlos Pena killed me 92 points over the two weeks!!!! :wallbash:

If it helps I got killed by Bonds last week- 2 points. That's right, 2. He didn't start 3 games in a row and had a whopping 2 hits! Luckily Burrell and J-Roll made up for it against the Mets. If not I would have gotten hosed out of the playoffs.

I had my eye on Pena for about a month, he always had tons of potential, just never got it together the perfect candidate for a late career breakout season.. . I had Gonzeles and Lee at first so I waited to long. The week I put in for him another team scooped him up. Oh well, shoulda, coulda, woulda....

the funniest part about it is he's literally been a stud for me all season, probably giving me the most production on my team in my rotisserie league outside of Magglio.......something i couldnt have guessed in a million years
