Jeallus?

Anyway, can anyone name a better box set? I think not but I'm open to suggestions.

Did you catch this documentary on PBS this month? (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/shows/stax/) It was a great program.

I'm a huge Stax fan. I was grooving to Rufus Thomas today on, believe it or not, XMKids. He did a kickass version of "Old McDonald Had A Farm".

Amazing box set. When I bought my first Ipod, that was one of the first things I put on it.

You have excellent taste. Stax/Volt always gets overshadowed by Motown and that's unfortunate.

As for comparable box sets...this one's pretty good too:

Amazon had this set mistakenly priced at $15 a few months ago. What a bargain!

Jelous? Maybe a little. Well, more than a little. Christ, the last box sets I bought were Robert Johnson's set and Allman Brother's "Dreams" years ago. They are both killer. But the Stax set would be a nice addition.

Black Box from Wax Trax is pretty good.

Got the Box Set awhile back love it. The Documentry was a great insight into a label that tried its hardest and then collapsed under its own weight.

Also the footage from Wattstax is just great.

Anyone listen to volume 2 or volume 3 at all? I can get both sets on eMusic. Unfortunately, they don't have the first volume up there.

Someone sent me the mp3 version of vol 3 its when Stax was on a downturn with some disco type tunes getting in the mix. Stick with box 1.

I have that one as well. Good stuff.

I don't think that was a mistake. I picked mine up at Virgin for $20 a few months ago, and that was part of a very prominent display at the front of the store. That whole "accused murderer" rap appears to have de-valued Phil Spector's legacy in the eyes of the American public quite a bit.

Well I used up the rest of my downloads on the first three discs of Volume 2, and it's good.
