Any who may be interested in Bioshock for the 360 and has a toysrus near them should stroll into the store it might surpise you but i got my copy yesterday. Yes thats right one of the hottest games to game out in years had its street date broken in many toysrus stores by over a week.

Lou has been playing the demo for a few days now. It scares him when he plays alone at night.

I played the demo and it has to be seen to be believed. i've never seen anything like it. From the water effects to the post modern late 40's fascist decor, you just get totally immersed. Mandatory HD TV and 5.1 setup required. Don't waste the game on anything less.
I pre-ordered from Steam and I'm already pre-loaded and ready to go. I'll be up Tuesday at midngiht and stay up all night for the moment they authorize. System Shock 2 was so good, and the reviews this has been getting have been insane. It averaging something like 98% last I checked. Between this Metroid Prime 3, and Warhawk all coming out this month I should be good for a long while.

It is quite spooky. It is more of a Haunted House than a video game.

I liked the storyline/concept alot. and the weapons...even the hacking bots part.
the demo was over way too quickly. i guess that means i gotta buy this.
only thing i dont like is its just a one person shooter, i prefer playing friends.
but yeah, i'll end up buying it.

It's a fun game. Using plasmids is great, nothing beats lighting someone on fire then zapping the water they jump in.

Lou got the game yesterday. He has banned me from Xbox for a few days......but the Xbox is mine tonight for poker! Bawawawawahahahahaaa!

I still prefer the zap em and beat em to death with a wrench.
Big Daddies on the other hand, first I unload all my grenades into him. Then I switch to telekenesis. I try to keep a safe distance, keep some kind of cover between me and him, try and dodge his rail gun shots and when he decides to throw a grenade I catch it and throw it right back at him. If I'm lucky enough I can lure him near a missile turret I hacked. That makes it much easier.

The first one I fought I just unloaded with armor-piercing bullets until I took it down, then when I fought another one, I kept my distance and used telekinesis to through those exploding containers at it. There's nothing better than watching a Big Daddy lumber around on fire.

I was in the mall yesterday and decided to pick it up. I got maybe an hour of play last night night and it's even fucking cooler than the demo. When you get the incinerator and light the oil slick on fire was neat (I didn't realize it was oil, slipped out of the room burned the slicer by the door and as they started falling down, the oil went up).
I haven't picked up telekinesis yet (current mission), but I don't know how long until the hacking gets tedious. I played pipes 10-20 years ago. I really wouldn't actively seek it out again.

Hacking didn't get as tedious as I thought it would but towards the end it gets extremely cheap. The game is randomly laid out each time and some times the trap tiles will be laid down in a way that totally blocks out the exit. And other times they lay traps all around the entrance giving you only one way to escape so you need to start clicking tiles like a madman trying to find the correct turn tile before the water starts flowing. A lot of times you won't even find the right tile you need before you need, you have like less than 5 seconds.

Well, the bits of the game I'm playing I'm absolutely loving. However, my computer is barfing it up. I had to update my Nvidia card and I think the PSU is taking offense to this. The screen blacks out and the computer restarts. It's been doing this before (posted a thread about this awhile ago) but it seems to happen far more frequently when I'm playing Bioshock. I lowered the graphics and that helped but the computer once again had the serious error while I was sleeping (no, the game wasn't on all night).
So I think I'm gonna have to give up on Bioshock until I can get my computer fixed.
Ah the sweet smell of potentially corrupted windows!

When I first installed Bioshock it was running like shit and would always eventually crash. Everything on my system was running worse than it should (gotta love Windows Rot) so I just did a complete Windows re-install. It was a pain in the ass but once I was finished Bioshock ran faster than I thought it would.
Your problem seems to be the power supply though. If you have multiple hard drives or DVD/CD drives you could try disconnecting the ones you don't need to play Bioshock, if you don't want to just replace the PSU.

That's one of the things that moved me from being a PC gamer to console gamer. I just got tired of the upgrading and the compatiblity and the drivers and the whatnot. I like being able to just slot the game in and go.
Of course, I still prefer the mouse and keyboard for FPS games, but I'll survive. Of course, I'm contemplating a full upgrade for the new Half-Life in the fall.

Ah... I've never engaged in a full out Windows reinstall. I'm backing up the key files now on an External HD... ugh.
Jon, I agree with you, the constant updating, problems, and modifications are truly a pain in the ass...but there's just something really more fun about PC gaming. Especially FPS. Now, if console systems implemented a keyboard/mouse option, that would give them a huge edge.
So the game is better than the demo??? I love the concept but wasn't thrilled with the demo and have been on the fence with this one
The strength of the game is its story and the atmosphere which is hard to portray that much in a demo. And the game itself is a lot less frenzied than the demo was. They just tried to shove in a bunch of stuff like extra plasmids and security cameras and bots that don't actually show up until a bit later in the game. The action in the game itself is a lot more strategic with many many ways to approach enemies. You can lay traps, hack security and have bots do the work for you or shoot your way through.
It's a lot like System Shock 2 if you've ever played that. Not as scary but the same type of game.

I want to get into this game but my PC refuses to run any of the sound during the cutscenes in the demo. Like when you first show up to Rapture or when you first inject yourself with the plasmid stuff. I can hear all the background sounds and the action noises, but all of the plot critical stuff is silent. I have tried redownloading it off of Steam, validating the cache, and updating my sound drivers but nothing works. Checking in the 2k forums it seems other people are having the same issues.
Oh well.
Hopefully they will patch this thing up and I'll get to try it out properly at some point.

Are you guys rescuing or harvesting the Little Sisters? I decided to save them in the first scene you meet them and get the chance to pick and have been doing it since.

Finally fixed up my system to the point where it can run the game. Though I'm still having a time trying to keep Kaspersky from randomly conducting a scan while I'm in the middle of the game...
Having gotten through the Medical Pavilion at long last, so far I have to say the game has been absolutely a thrill to play. I daresay this game beats the asshole off of Halo 3 (premature, but considering this is the BEST FPS I'VE PLAYED not far-fetched)... but I fear it shan't do well commercially simply because of its proximity to other games' release dates.
I've opted not to harvest the Little Sisters so far. I suspect you get better bonuses in the long-term for not doing so, versus the short-term advantage of being able to fully supe up your character early on.

I played this over the weekend, starting Friday night, and blowing through it in probably about 12 hours of gameplay.
Two works: FUCKING AWESOME.
I had a few mild complaints: the plasmid concept did seem to be a bit of a gimmick, and there were a few plasmids I didn't really use at all, and most of the time I made my way thorough with a good old fashioned machine gun or shotgun. Now, of course, I was playing on the easy level (I like to go through on easy once to get the full story), so as things get tougher, I'll probably find myself using the plasmids more. It is pretty damn badass to kill one splicer by hurling the corpse of another into it, though.
But where I think the game stood out was in terms of story and character. There were some of the most interesting characters I'd ever seen in a video game here, but my favorite had to be Sander Cohen. What a crazy fruit. And let's just say I was not expecting my confrontation with Andrew Ryan to go the way it did.
I will say that I rescued the Little Sisters this time, and got the happy ending. I'm going to harvest them in a replay and see how things go.
And I will be playing it again. I can't help it. It's my curse! IT'S MY FUCKING CURSE!

Unfortunately it isn't much different at all. It was my chief disappoinment with the game. After spending the entire development period hyping the choices you'd have to make during the game and how they would affect the game.......... they didn't affect the game. It played almost exactly the same, the same stuff happens and the only difference is the brief ending.

I actually saw a breakdown of it online, and it said that if you harvest every Little Sister, you'll end up with about 300 more ADAM than you'd have if you rescued eery one, but you'd also lack a few things, like you'd never get the Hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid.

Yeah, it's a shame. They made it seem like sparing the little sisters would put you at a disadvantage, that being the good guy would be difficult, that passing up on all that ADAM that the you could harvest from the sisters would hurt but it wasn't much different at all.
BTW, if you like Bioshock try System Shock 2 if you've never played. It's an older game but it holds up. It's made by pretty much the same team that made Bioshock. It's much scarier and more challenging. I think it's superior to Bioshock.

Bioshock 2 is not going to be so good tho; wasn't made by Ken Levine. That entire game depends on storyline or else it would be generic, and Levine is fantastic with storylines.
SysShock 2 is "da" best.
They had to dumb down Bioshock for console users, so interfaces and inventories were eliminated completely, but they had a great deal more intended for the game than there had been realized. Probably, that's what happened to the ending too, though I have to admit that Ken Levine writes a great character atmosphere and story, except he can't seem to make an ending worth a damn.
Btw Levine wrote system shock 3 and handed it to EA who rejected it, and Bioshock was the result.

I know this will make Biggestmexi bite and rip his game loving balls off in an acrobatically stunning fit of fury, but I have to say that every single videogame storyline is engorged upon a childish interpretation of anything that has ever been possible to interpret childishly.
In other words, video games are not intellectually stimulating pieces of electronic literature whose pages are merely controlled by remote control; they're basically the same mind-numbing childish activity that you see little kids engage in when they are sliding those balls up wired jungle-gym constructs in a dentist's waiting room. Gamers generally smell like shit too, just like kids.

I am so jealous of every one of you. I cant play Bioshock due to the first person motion sickness that I get. I tried 3 different times and had to lie down for an hour or so just after a few mins of playing. Why cant they make all of these first person games with the option of switching to 3rd person (like Elder Scrolls 4 and Fallout)?
Now I am mad.................I want to play that game Damnit!

Finally got this on demand on Xbox. I've always been big on survival horror fps. The game still looks great after 3 years, and the atmosphere is very well engineered. I played for about an hour, but am somewhat discouraged. I got bored. Setting off an alarm trying to hack a vending machine pretty much totaled my supplies and I'm down to 17 bucks. Are there just periods of the game where resources are low, or is it a constant struggle to conserve stuff? I've never had a problem with survival games where the supplies are few and far between (Resident Evil 4 is still my favorite game of all time), but I just wasn't enjoying it in this game.

Wow, 5 months delay on a response, that's gotta be close to a record.
Fair enough, but that's not my concern. I don't have a personal stake in who reads and/or enjoys Rand's work outside of the fact that I feel that I can usually deal better with those that do. This is a personal reaction, it's the same reason I tend to not discuss or argue about objectivism, it's not that I dont think I can argue it and perhaps change someones mind, it's that I don't care to. It's just not worth the boredom of drudging through the same counterarguments. That's basically how I feel about this game, it's not worth what has been described as a great video game to have my intelligence insulted.
The next game from Irrational Games, the developer behind the first Bioshock, is Bioshock Infinite. This time instead of underwater Randians it's a sky city full of Nazis. (http://kotaku.com/5607451/bioshock-infinite-goes-beyond-the-sea--into-the-skies)
