They say LSD (http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/lsd/stafford.htm) can cure alcohol dependency. It's worth a shot and if it doesn't...hey at least you tripped, right.

It's good if you can try and quit on your own but if you have been drinking for a long time, you body may go through alcohol withdrawal which isn't pleasant. (go to the hospital, they usually have a detox facility for alcohol and other drugs).
You're not alone. Maybe you can go to a local AA meeting, get a sponser and all that other stuff.
If your work has an EAP, maybe they can refer you to the proper resouces.
Also the local hospitals usually have an outpatient alcohol/drug program where you can go 1-2 times a week for a period of time (12 weeks or something), get alcohol and drug education and counseling, and other mumbo jumbo.
Good luck.

Before i turned 21 i used to drink tons, anything i could get my hands on really. Once i turned 21 i started to drink more socially.
Just recently went to a BBQ, started on a beer and realized it was gross, i tried another brand and it was as equally bad.
I used to romanticize the idea of being a beer cono sur but have given up on that.
Now I'm most comfortable with wine but every now and then i get a wild hair up my ass.
Good luck in your endeavors.

they would re-evaluate the policy when i was done there
i do have "frank the tank syndrome" where once i start i pass where i wish i had started
the worst is when im with "social drinkers" because i constantly feel like i need to catch up to their lvl and in reality im beating them by a few drinks
but what really scares me is when i drive
i dont know my limits so how do i know when im at a safe lvl to drive

i suffer from this as well Pat. A few times in my life I have stopped bringing totally on my own. No 12 steps or meetings for me. If you are serious about it then try on your own to stop, if not then look into going to a meeting. It is not an easy thing to do but we are all here for you should you need to lean on us.

i cut back my drinking because of the fear of getting caught on the road.
i usually drink diet cokes when i go out.
best way to stop is like ledzep said- clear out the house.

this to me is the most problematic thing you have written. Drinking and Driving is about the worst thing you can do It is beyond reckless. Please reevaluate the habit of getting behind the wheel after drinking Thats all the lecturing i will do
