View Full Version : I Can't Escape High School Musical 2

A year ago, I had never even heard of the phenomenon that is High School Musical. Now, I can't get away from it. Those of you with children of a certain age know my struggle.
For the uninitiated, High School Musical was a Disney TV movie that was kind of a watered-down, modern-day Grease. For whatever reason, it clicked with the elementary and middle school aged kids and got freakin' huge. I believe the soundtrack was the second highest selling CD of 2006. it spawned a live summer tour. There's also, I think, an "on ice" version in the works, but that could have been something I concocted in a nightmare. I had never heard of this phenomenon until my then five-year old daughter's school had a movie night with High School Musical. The auditorium was packed, and all of the kids knew all the words and danced in the aisles during the movie.
Anyhoo, a sequel was, of course, inevitable, and it's coming very very soon -- Friday, to be exact. My daughter watches the Disney Channel all the time, so the fact that they're whoring it out all over that channel is just a given. Now, every time there's a commercial during Hannah Montana, Phil of the Future, That's So Raven, or... (I better stop now), they have some kind of promo trumpeting the return of High School Musical with syrupy behind the scenes footage of the cast hugging each other and squealing about how they're "like a family" That's too be expected, I suppose. This is the Disney Channel's Sopranos.
But there's more...
It's the magazines. If you're oblivious to the phenomenon, you might not notice, but they're everywhere. The stars of a sequel to a TV movie are everywhere. One of them even ended up on the cover of Rolling Stone, believe it or not.
Add all of that to the fact that my daughter's playing the first movie and its soundtrack constantly right now, and it's a little over whelming. She also has a t-shirt and a pair of High School Musical shoes (!!!!). I didn't think it could get any worse until...
*ring*

[recording starts]Hi, this is __________ from High School Musical 2 reminding you that High School Musical 2 will be premiering...
*click*
Actually, there was more than that. There was some kind of mention of Verizon -- presumably their FIOS cable, internet & phone service (which I can't even get in my apartment yet, so eat a dick Verizon and don't call me back until your service is available)
Regardless, I got one of those pre-recorded messages that you normally get from candidates during an election. I can't escape.
Now I have nothing against Troy, Gabriella, that bushy headed kid, or the blonde chick from "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody", but enough is enough!!!!!!!!! I'd like my High School Musical ignorance back.
I know you love your kids, but love has its limits. This clearly runs roughshod over them.

I know what you're going through. My 5 year old daughter saw the stage version of HSM two weeks ago and I just found out that my sister-in-law has purchased tickets to take her in the fall to High School Musical....ON ICE! (I'm hoping that one of the Bruins will skate by and take out the Ryan character with a hip check but since the Bruins suck I can't see that happening.)
To be honest, the whole HSM phenomenon doesn't bother me. I kind of enjoyed it, watching it with my kids the first time around. I'll be watching II with the kids on Friday while Tivo records it for countless replays over the next few months.

OMG, LMAO! Mikeyboy you are too much!
My kid lives by the Disney channel, she'll be 4 next month but thankfully the whole HSM thing is over her head. She is completely into Hannah Montana though so I know what your through and we have all the crap to go along with it. Shirts (which are too big and are night shirts), hair brushes, dvds, cds, wig.... yep, I said it, the Hannah Montana wig. Honestly, the show isn't that bad, there are worse shows she could be watching. She likes That's So Raven but if I hear that bitch say "oh snap!" one more time I was going to block the channel all together from the tv.
HSM will eventually blow over and some other stupid show will take its place, I remember when my cousin was younger she was all about the Power Puff Girls, atleast your daughter is watching actually people instead of cartoons.

Yes I do! I've got a 7 yr. old who is nuts about this stuff. She made me show her how to use the DVR so she can record it and other Disney shows. She has moved to being obsessed with "Jump In", a truly shitty movie about double dutch rope jumping. Blech.
Two weeks ago she went to a concert at PNC to see Aly & AJ with Corbin Bleu. WTF? I was 17 when I went to my first concert. Next up is HSM on Ice, which she already has tickets for. Luckily she is going with a friend and her mom. They announced a Hannah Montana concert tour which she is begging to go to. I might just take her and do some MILF hunting...

There have been a couple articles in the Post about it recently and it just looks like the gayest thing ever. I'm talking Fez-gay.

Are you saying he should put his kids in the car, park on railroad tracks, and lock the doors? I can't believe you would say that!

I had questions (balls) flying at me about when the first High School Musical was coming out on DVD right after it was shown on the Disney Channel. I have hated it ever since...
Although, the one kid's name is basically Cordon Bleu. That's what I call him, and that's how it will stay.

But sometimes, as i look at the stars, i still feel like im little GAZzy entering his first day of 9th grade in his new school pants

I managed to catch the end of this annoying movie as well and what annoys me the most are the words on the bottom of the screen that allow me to sing along if I wanted to. My eyes are fixed on reading them, its terrible and I couldn't wait for it to be over!

Vanessa Hudgens maybe in the middle of a nude photo scandal after she reportedly posed naked for pictures she allegedly took for boyfriend and ‘High School Musical’ co-star Zac Efron.
Reports claim the 18-year-old beauty took the pictures herself. “Shooting into a mirror with her camera phone, she took photos of herself stripped except for a gold chain around her waist,” a source says. “She also photographed herself in the tub, blowing kisses – and sensuously pulling down her bikini bottom.”

The nudes are real confirmed by her publicist...
So my question is why would this happen? Part of me thinks that she's trying to go the Lindsay Lohan route and that she leaked them herself in order to further her career. She's done with disney now, but she would have been anyway....This, and the acclaim from HSM will probably bring her bigger roles, even if she is just some dumb racially ambiguous girl who showed her cunt on the internet.

i doubt she is done with disney, i thought they were coming out with a new movie next year that will be in theaters
disney might be done with her now though
Yeah that's what I meant....the collective reaction from hardcore Disney fans seems to have been nothing less than the whole "Say it a'int so" thing from old cartoons. Or 8 men out. Whichever.
