I went to Muse for the 2nd time last night. They played at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. Absolutely amazing. The best concert I've ever been to. I can't even really pinpoint highlights from the night, because everything was so great. The fact that this band, especially as a three piece, can create the sounds they do live is awesome. Even the opening band they chose (Cold War Kids) was great. And after seeing Marilyn Manson last weekend, I thought it was very funny that Muse had a better stage show than Manson did.

I think New Born was my favorite single song of the night, though. There's just something about this song live that gives me chills. And both times I've seen them, they've closed with Knights of Cydonia. Jesus christ. I've never heard a better song live. Its like the song was written to close concerts. The whole crowd singing along, awesome melodic pauses, just an astonishing amount of energy coming from the live version. And I understand why they close concerts with the song; there's no was you can top it after it's played.

Now, I cannot understand how this band isn't huge here in the states. You could put Origin of Symmetry and especially Absolution against just about any rock album from the last 20 or so years. Add to that the live show that this band puts on, and they should be selling out stadiums here. Instead, they're playing 6500 person arenas and not even selling them out.

If you've never heard Muse, go find Absolution right away. The album is stunning. It was the first album I ever heard that I felt the need to share it immediately with other people. I was burning copies for anyone that would listen to me just so they could share in this music.

Also, if you get a chance to go see a show at the Agganis Arena in Boston, do it. Its a beautiful new arena. The concession stands are set up perfectly, there is not a bad seat in the entire arena, and the acoustics are amazing. I could not believe how great the sound was inside of an arena. Usually there's some sort of major echo or something, but there was none. I was at the other end of the arena from the stage, and the sound was still crystal clear.

Supermassive Black Holes is a great album, but do yourself a favor and check out their earlier stuff, as well. Great albums.

Been into them for awhile, at least since High Tension came out.
Never seen em' live, but would totally go if they came to my town(I live in Indy, so they won't)

I actually never heard of them until The R and F Hostile Takeover at KROCK.
I remember commenting in the listening thread how much I liked the song they were playing: Knights of Cydonia, by Muse. It had a very huge Queen feel to it.

Since then, Ive found myself humming it to myself alot. After only one listen. So I caved, and today I downloaded it onto my Iphone...along with some other Muse stuff. The more I listen, the more Id say theyre a cross between Queen and Radiohead... but obviously unique.

Theyve got a sense of humor too. Here's their video for Knights of Cydonia:

I had never heard of the band till I worked on their "Starlight" music video. That totally changed things for me. I've been into them ever since.

Here's the video if anyone is interested.

They sound good, but we used to have an alarm clock on the computer... and Jeff set some Muse song as the alarm... and it would go off every morning blaring at 7am, so I have an aversion to them, they remind me of not wanting to wake up

The Resistance, anyone?

This album is HUGE. And I don't mean in a sales way.

It's so over the top and dramatic and gothic and paranoid. It's amazing. I am totally digging this album in a big way.

I didn't bump the chicago thread, my friend.

And the new album came out today or something, I think.

Also, I went to Chicago last year.

I'm in. I like it so far.
Lots of it is eighties sounding, synth type music, but it's good.

The three jams at the end are fantastic.

Not so much like their older stuff. Not bad, but different - a lot less guitar driven. I think it's going to take me a few more listen throughs to figure it out.

Anyone listen yet?

It's been my go to album the last couple of weeks. The waves of highs and lows on the album are just amazing. I absolutely love this album.

I'm trying to get away from the "new" feeling I have with it to see if it really is as good as I hope and think it is.

Saw them at the Garden last night. I don't think there's a better live band around right now.

Missed most of Silversun Pickups, though. Stupid bands going on ontime.

I was there too. It was an amazing spectacle. They are about as perfect an arena band as there has ever been. Uprising to open up was just incredible. And the double hit of Stockholm Syndrome and Knights of Cydonia to close it was just a ridiculous climax. They ripped through Stockholm Syndrome so hard that it almost matched Knights of Cydonia in intensity. I haven't seen a better performance from any band not named Radiohead or The Roots.

As for Silversun Pickups, well, they did as best they could in the venue. They were received well by the crowd but the arena kind of swallowed up their sound. They are so distortion heavy that the echoing of the arena made most of their songs sound drowned out. I'm a pretty big fan of theirs so I should have known. Their last two songs, Panic Switch and Lazy Eye, came off really well though.

God I am so jealous that you guys get to see Muse on a fairly regular basis. The closest they are coming to me is Toronto or Calgary & Edmonton in April. Why the hell they are doing 2 shows in Alberta and none in Manitoba is beyond me.
I just got into these guys last year and grabbed all their stuff off iTunes. In January I drove to Winnipeg by myself and I burned 5 cd's of just Muse, it was the best 7 hour drive I have ever been on. The cd's are still on heavy rotation in my truck and I don't thunk I have listened to anything else since I put them in there.
<~~ soooo friggin' jealous!

I agree with everything you said. I can't wait to see Silversun in a smaller venue, but Panic Switch and Lazy Eye were fantastic.

I don't think Muse will ever be able to close with any song other than Knights of Cydonia again. It's just perfect to end the night. And you're right about them being a perfect arena band. We saw them at a small arena last time, and you could just tell it's where they belonged.

They were playing clips of songs in between their songs during the show. I heard Scentless Apprentice by Nirvana, a Jimmy Hendrix song, some music from A Clockwork Orange, among other. We were in a bar afterward and Muse and Silversun were there, too. My wife asked Dom what they were playing in between songs and he said they were "just jamming", though. But they were definitely playing certain songs.

I saw them in 99 or 2000 opening for foo fighters and chili peppers. They def stood out, about all I really remember is that they were insanely loud.
