View Full Version : Automatic picture re-sizing?

I bought all of the pictures from the wedding, and I'm in the process of trying to get some of them printed up.
The problem is that all of the pics are super hi-res, at close to 7-8 megs a piece. And it's a total hassle at the Wal-Mart kiosk to try and print them up because at the res they are shot at, they are meant for a poster-sized print. I was told I almost crashed the system because the machines are not made to handle pictures that hi-res.
So is there a program that can automatically re-size photos to a more managable size?

Microsoft has a "poweretoy" you can download that will easily resize images.
"Microsoft image resizer" will find it on google.....
You can resize to small medium or large... it works pretty well for me....

Try Google's Picassa, it's free. Just import your photos then export them into something smaller.
Even walmart's photo-shop should be able to print those,if they're wedding photos it's a professional photographer and they're probably still in RAW format. Try another shop first, you shouldn't have to sacrifice quality to have your photo's printed.

in that case it would be illegal for walmart to print the photos

Most wedding photographers allow you to buy the pics from them, copyright-free, as part of the package or for an additional fee.

I had the same problem and in Paint Shop Pro, you can do a batch resize. I'm sure photoshop probably has the same option somewhere

But Wal Mart can still be a pain in the ass about that. I used to work there. They tell their employees not to print any pics that even LOOK professionally done. I took my daughter's class pic in the living room and photoshoped a background to it. I had to show them the negative, to prove that I was the photographer. Then I had to sign a release that stated that I was the photographer, and gave myself permission to print my own photo.
PS. The Microsoft power toy is the easiest thing to use, and you can do multiple photos at once.

In Photoshop, it's called Automate. You make a short script to do it.

You can also do it with IrfanView.

I'd settle for you gaining wit without poor references to feigned knowledge of the medium in which I create my art.

Legos are the coolest toys in the universe. I have quite a few of them. I actually picked up the mars mission set at Target this weekend.
"Art"?

So don't bring your shots to WalMart.
I've uploaded jpgs to ofoto.com and had prints done and I thought they were really nice. And (ahem) I am a professional photographer.

I actually like Wal-mart's finishing. They put a nice matte on the pics... the glossy shots I don't dig.
