I know I should have posted it in the browser thread but I didnt think enough still go back to that thread since its been around awhile.

All that being said, does anyone have problems with ie7 or ie7 pro freezing all the time? I open most pages by opening them in another tab (right click or just push the scroll button on your mouse does it as well)

It seems that after awhile ie7 just decides to freeze or not open in a new tab. Its like everything is working fine and then it isnt its like you may have opened a tab once to often and now the tab seems to be higher then the others and the page wont display and then they just lock. It then gets to the point that you cant even open something in a new window. The only page that will work is the first page your on and the rest is frozen. When you do click to open a new page or tab the screen will blink but nothing will happen. The only way to fix it so you can then browse again is to restart your computer. Which sucks because im always in the middle of doing something.

Has anyone else had this problem? or anyone know or understand what im talking about?
I thought it was my other laptop, but recently bought a new computer and its doing it on this one too. It seems like its a Internet explorer problem but I want to make sure.

I almost forgot to add this.

With my new computer Im running windows xp media center edition. What the hell is media center edition? and why cant I play any .avi's with windows media player? I could with my old computer with xp. I remember that being mentioned that avi's didnt work with vista. Someone said you could fix that or something?

First off, Windows XP Media Center Edition is the name of the operating system. It's your particular flavor of XP. There is also XP home and business.
The AVIs may be because your media player isn't the default player for the file type.

Or maybe...did you import your files from the old computer? If so, some of the media files have write protection codes that won't let them play on the new computer.

The IE7 problem is the same thing my buddy has with his. He has an HP Media Center Computer (I don't know which model) that this did a bunch of times to. Goto the Control Panel and goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall IE7 (It's not a real uninstall, it simply rolls back to IE6) Then goto the Microsoft website and install IE7 for Media center. This should do the trick. If not, goto Mozilla.com and download Firefox. It's muchos, muchos better.

Good luck. I'm a "certified" Microsoft tech (only means I spent a shitload of money on a bunch of tests to prove I know what I'm doing) that really hates what Microsoft has done in the past 3 years with the bullshit OS upgrades they keep pushing.

Next laptop for me is going to be a MacBook. They are using Intel chips now, the OS uses a third less RAM to operate and the computer overall is faster.

thanks for your help but I know that XP media center is a version of xp like home etc. But XP Media center is suppose to be the prequel to Vista. Like xp service pack 2 , then media center, then media center 2005 then Vista. Other people on here had similar problems when they went to Vista and someone said it could be fixed. So Im hoping that can help. I just dont remember who posted it and where.

As for the avi's your right they probably have a codec thingy because it does say its searching for the codec. But I have watched these avi files on many computers not just my old computer. I even kept the downloader for windows media 11 from my old computer so this is the exact same copy of windows media 11.

AS for the ie7 problem I did that already and downloaded ie7 directly from microsoft. I think your right and I might have to go to firefox. I didnt want to because im so used to ie but the bugs just suck.

Thanks for your help I appreciate you taking the time to write everything.

I have actually been using one the last week or so... messing around with Parallels, restarting and booting it into XP.. its such a good thing.

XP Media Center and XP Tablet Edition are both versions of XP Professional. They made the tablet features standard in Vista, and I think only Home Premium and Ultimate include the Media Center features. It had certain requirements for TV hardware, so it was never available as a retail edition.

Windows doesn't play mpeg4 video out of the box (such as xvid/divx), so you need to download a codec for it. i prefer the ffdshow codec pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm). i've switched to using VLC Media Player as my default player since it has many more playback options. it has the ffdshow codecs built-in.

thanks zen

I found and downloaded a codec patch yesterday and everything now works. Media Center edition lets you watch tv and record tv like a tv. Well thats what I read, I need to buy somethings to be able to hook my laptop up to a cable wire but its only like $40.

Zen how do you know so much about computers? your like the guru on here! Now if you could explain the ie7 freezing tabs part then you will go from guru to god, lol

I may have to switch to firefox. I dont want to but will if this continues or no one knows how to fix it.

i've lived on my computer(s) for about the last 10 years, i read tech news everyday, and i've had a couple of IT jobs. but i've been around them for about 20 years now. my dad got our first pc in '87, so i learned DOS and eventually windows and just kept up with everything.

i actually have a similar tab freezing problem in firefox, but i usually have 100+ tabs open in about 20 different windows. i never use ie7 for more than a website of two though.

If you don't mind I'm gonna post a little problem of mine

I just bought a Memorex DVD Player/CD Burner. I installed it and it burns and plays cd's fine. The problem is when trying to play a DVD.

What happens is the picture doesn't run consistently, it runs with constant delays, almost like if a movie reel was spinning and someone put their hand on it for just a second and then let go and just kept doing it throughout the movie

Is there a setting I'm missing(possibly speed setting)? Do I have to dedicate additional resources to the DVD player itself ?

any help would be appreciated!

the dvd sound is fine, it's the video that has the constant delay

what software are you using for playback? if the sound is playing uninterrupted then there may be a video driver issue of some kind. it's also possible that something else is hogging your cpu. with task manager, sort the processes by CPU % during playback and see if something else is running in the background

This looked like a decent place to ask this question. I want to put some video on my Blackberry Peal, but none of them work. I researched and found this...
The following Video formats are supported:
- MPEG-4 Part 2 - Simple Profile + bvops (including DivX files in this format)
- H.263 Profile 0 and Profile 3

The following Video file extensions are also supported:
- .avi containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
- .mov containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
- .3gp containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
- .mp4 containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
- .m4v containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263
- .mpg containing MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263

OK. Here's my problem. How do I convert my videos to one of these formats without spending a lot of money?

Update...

I found THIS PROGRAM (http://www.download.com/MediaCell-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10755841.html) that helps somewhat. With it, I can convert my .mov files and my .flv files (that I download from Youtube), and put them on my phone. But I still can't convert my mpeg3, wmv, etc. files. Any ideas?
