Lets see if this really happens if Kanye West Outsells 50 Cent. Both have CD's out on the same day

why would either of them pick that day?

I've stated this already, but 50 has nothing to loose & everything to gain in this whole bullshit "rap war". He was one of the original investors in the Glaceau Vitamin Water thing and has about $400 Million dollars coming his way.....

So any "rap war" is really contrived and boring.

Link to his sale here. (http://www.nypost.com/seven/07292007/business/looking_for_a_ip_business_.htm)

i don't know, his last album sold double kanye's last one. if he fails to win out, he would look very foolish precisely because he's not expected to lose.

edit: i thought he just teamed up with them when he "created" their grape flavored water. i don't think he was there from the beginning.

No matter the manner in which he "risks" his career...the fucker don't need it....that's the point.

In all actuality, he & Kanye will benefit from the "war" if done right.

rap in this day and time is garbage anyways.

I vote to lock this thread and start a thread on who will a jumprope competition, Mary Carey or Jackee from 227.

Scott, I disagree. I literally just bought the recommended Kanye playlist on ITunes yesterday - sort of looking for new music in a Fat_Sunny kind of way - and I fucking dig it. The music is interesting, the lyrics are smart and funny.

I know I'm about 4 years too late to the party, but I'm a big Kanye fan and I'm looking forward to that album.

He teamed up with them, did ads, and introduced his own flavor/beverage with them. In lieu of payment, he took 10% of the company. Made billions when they sold the company.

Not the biggest fan of either, but I'm Camp Kanye all the waaaaaay...Fiddy's songs are commercial pieces of beat-driven drivel.

It's not a "war," it's a sales competition.

I think Kanye might sneak away with it. 50's last couple of albums sold huge, but there's a weird negative buzz going around this one with it being pushed back a couple times and some of the leaked tracks being even shittier than usual from the marblemouthed one.

Besides, Kanye's fighting the fight for Chicago, even if fellow Chicago MC's Lupe Fiasco and Rhymesayer write all his best lyrics. Combine them with Common and Capital D and Chicago's finally got a decent hip-hop scene.

i'm not disputing that. i was just correcting the fact about him being an og investor.

They're so detached from reality it didn't dawn on anybody what September 11th is?

I think Kanye will come away with one, the first idea 50 had was to have a debate with K.West & West said that was stupid we both put out good music, witch I agree but out of whats out now I like Kanyes singles more..

Why? People shouldn't buy stuff on that day?

Seriously, it's not like they're capitalizing on the history of September 11th or trying to keep people from doing whatever the hell they want to do to remember or mourn or whatever. This Spetember 11th happens to fall on a Tuesday, like the one in 2001 did, which is the day when albums are released. I don't really see why this is a problem or why they have to have anything to do with each other.

So no albums should be released on that day? Or just not major ones? What else should not be done just because it's 9/11?

I'm not trying to fight...I'm seriously asking. What specifically about this do you think is "wrong" based on the day when the albums are released? What else is supposed to be not done since it's 9/11? Your reaction to this seems really subjective and arbitrary.

releasing it (or a movie or book) on that day ties it in with the date. there will probably be posters as well, furthering the connection. i'm not saying business should not take place on that day, but to me releasing something on that date is in bad taste. if it was released the week before, i would not have a problem with people buying the cd's on the 11th. some agree, some disagree. so goes life. in 50 years it will be different, but now is too soon. and no, i don't know when the magical change-over date is.

also, even if it's not in bad taste, wouldn't you want to avoid the negative association that will be made if you're the artist or label?

The reason they still release things on that date is because the release schedule is so limited for books and music seeing they almost always put out their new releases on Tuesdays. Blacking out the date and cramming everything to the week before or after on top of whatever else is coming out is almost guarenteed to lose a LOT more money that any possible issues that come up being released on 9/11. For better or for worse, life has and will go on.

Bump. And its Kanye big.

http://www.spin.com/features/news/2007/09/070919_kanye_brmc/

I predict Fiddy Cent retires but Curtis Jackson keeps making music files that white kids pretend to like, for awhile anyway.
