I had a sort of protege who has become a big deal critic in LA. He use to come down and shoot the shit about movies at my little TV studio where I would my show. I liked him because he knew his mind and had very strong opinions. That's the thing about opinions. There like nipples....everyone has two or three.
Anyway he's generated some controversy this week by basically kissing Brett Ratner's ass.

As for your young patawan, I guess he genuinely likes his movies (which wouldn't make him much of a critic in MY opinion), or he is genuinely kissing his ass because Ratner is always on the party circuit with all the other young boozed up celebrities and he is hoping for an invite.

trust me...scott didn't strike me as a party guy but I'm sure he's been infected by the Hollywood disease......But if you look at his reviews on rottentomatoes he favors the arty and obscure....I suspect this Ratner love is a reactionary pose....
