I found out earlier this week that I have been promoted/transferred to Northern NJ (Paramus). My wife and I are going to the area this weekend to look at houses. The real estate agent that was arranged by my company has set up appointments to view a variety of houses all in the Upper Saddle River/Mahwah/Ramsey area. We've viewed the houses online found them to be great. I've asked the agent to see other areas and she has indicated this area is the best (schools, shopping, etc.).

What are the recommended areas that we should look in. I have two pre-teen daughters and would like them to go to public school if they are worth a damn. ANY suggestions are welcome.

Looky, looky... (http://www.northjersey.com/)

Officially separated from South Jersey (http://www.southjersey.com/).

Top high schools in Jersey. (http://www.njmonthly.com/topschools/hslist.lasso)

And top ranked middle schools... (http://www.psk12.com/rating/USthreeRsphp/STATE_NJ_level_Middle_CountyID_0.html)

Hopefully that helps in some way...otherwise...

Congrats. Welcome to the neighborhood. I guess you guys are doing OK to be looking in USR and Mahwah. They both have excellent school systems. You can also check Allendale or Hohokus. Both Beautiful towns with quality schools. (And a bit closer to Paramus.)
Closer to the city there are a bunch of nice eastern towns in the county. (Demarest, Alpine, Closter, Tenafly)

Oradell is also a great town. I should know, I was born and raised there. Top notch school sytem and 1 town from Paramus.

If you want help with any specifics, PM me.

Hey! Shut your cake-eater, Jonny Boy! (I'm pretending to like North Jersey...I call myself an act-tor). It's really not that bad, though.

Bergen County has good public schools. Hottub is from Oradell and I'm from Emerson, which is one town from Oradell and two towns from Paramus. Your kids will be fine in public schools in that area.

Give me a break with that shit, Jon.

Dont take that shit too serious. Even NYers rather live in NJ, thats why a lot have moved to Jersey.

To answer the original question. Bergen County area is very nice. It has been ranked for years as one (if not the) Richest counties in the country. They have beautiful homes, great schools, close enough to the city and far enough from south Jersey!

Hey, is it too late to try and call a Bergen Bar Night for Saturday?
We can help welcome Mr. and Mrs. Enviro to the neighborhood.
Screw Firewaters. I only picked it for it's location. Any better suggestions near Firewaters? I would like a place where I can actually chat. I'll think aboot it and follow up.

Don't listen to Jon. He's never lived anywhere else other than right next to his mother's teat.

Go to the Mawah Bar and Grill or the Office in Ridgewood for your bar night. Then there's always the old Suffering Hotel. I think the name has changed though. My frend got thrown out of there for peeing in his pants. I also remember a guy being handcuffed to the sign out in front of the Suff in his underpants. He may still be there.

I grew up in Oakland and Franklin Lakes and can vouch for the schools there as well. FL was sort of a snooty tennis club town. I don't think there are many bad school districts in Bergen. Quick drive to 174th and St. Nicholas too...fun, but dangerous for whitey.

Couldn't afford Bergen when it came time to buy a house so we wound up in Passaic. Bloomingdale. Rt. 23 is really growing where it crosses 287.

Good luck with the move

I was going to say... doesn't Jon live with his parentals... in Rockland County, NY which is EXACTLY the same as Northern NJ...just a different area code? I know... I grew up there.
lol

Welcome to Joisey, Gator! It's crazy crowded and expensive... but I like it!

Yeah, Rockland County NY is the county right next to Bergen County NJ and it's basically the same exact place.

Good call. The sister is the Allendale Bar and Grill. Both well run fine establishments. AB&G is the original I think.
Welcome to NJ. There is a lot of corruption to pay for.

Your working in NJ?? If your driving on the parkway sign up for EZPass, will save you time rather than sitting in the tolls! I have an hour commute each way to and from work myself, thats why I work the late shift, traffic can be a real bitch!

If your smokers, your really gonna hate it out here! Cigs are expensive oh and its illegal to pump your own gas.

Congrats and welcome to the neighborhood. (NJ that is)
Paramus is not a bad area except during Xmas time...then it is a FUCKING NIGHTMARE with two major malls to contend with in the same town

if you move to mahwah the property taxes are actually the lowest in bergen county i do believe. Or us to be at least.
