Is there anything better for shopping than old or used stores? Used book stores, used record stores. Crazy selections (usually better than mega-stores), rare and obscure shit, and usually at much better prices. And they always have this great smell about them and the people who work there often seem nicer than people at Barnes and Noble or the like. Also, with used book stores, if you put them on your home bookshelves, you look smart since the spine is bent.

I'm with you Liddy. There is an architectural salvage place here that I go in about once a month...i can spend hours bumming through there looking at the most bizarre stuff...

Another bonus of therse stores is the cool / wacky owners or clerks that work in them they will tell a story or spin a yarn that will keep you mesmerzed for hours.

Used book stores are like crack to me. Eight books for $30? Yes, please! I always go to a shop in Madison (NJ) and stay there for a long, long time...probably too long. And it's amazing what you can find in the Salvation Army when you look hard enough.

Can't help myself, when I find one, I'm in it for hours.
Best find so far was in the library of the tiny CA town I used to live in, a first edition Salmon Rushdie, "the Satanic Verses" in perfect shape for $1.
I have so many duplicate copies of books too, from this shit.

Eight books for 30 your going to the wrong stores. I've got two places near me that all the books are half the cover price. I'll leave places with at least 20 - 25 books for 30 dollars.

(And I meant that as a positive.)

I love book and record stores. I picked up a ton of vinyl before "the disaster" at Record King. And got a first edition, like new copy of "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" by Cameron Crowe, in Bloomfield for a couple of bucks.

I love used book stores and record stores!!! My neighbor owns a shop that is in a huge warehouse. She rents out spaces to people and must have about 40 different vendors. You can find just about anything.

I love used book and record stores too! And since I've had a kid I shop consignment shops for baby clothes. I've found some expensive brands new with tags for $4-5 bucks a pop. Much better than spending $30 or $40 bucks in a store for an outfit she'll outgrow in a few months.
