I don't have much jazz in my music library except for a Charlie Brown christmas soundtrack and "A Kind Of blue" by Mile Davis. I would like to correct this so I pose the quesiton:

John Coltrane: A Love Supreme
Charles Mingus: Mingus Ah Um
The Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out
Herbie Hancock: Maiden Voyage
Thelonious Monk: Brilliant Corners
Here are a few giants in jazz. If you don't know a whole lot about jazz may I suggest Dave Brubeeck Quartet. It will seem very organized, you may recognize track #3, "Take Five".

You'll find this album on alot of peoples top 5 lists, if your into quartets, and not alot of elements in your jazz, but gotta have that pure raw feeling of jazz, you can't go wrong with A Love Supreme - John Coltrane

Two of the piano greats.
