View Full Version : Slang terms you don't hear anymore

Seeing Bronxy's CORN PALACE (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1415324#post1415324) post just got me thinking...
When I was a kid, there were slang terms that we used, that I never hear anymore. Anal sex was called corn holing (no... I didn't have a bad uncle experience). Farting was "Cuttin' the Cheese", or "Lit one" (as in, "Ewww... who lit one?").
I haven't heard either of the fart ones in eons. The last time I heard any reference to "corn hole" was Beavis & Butthead's "Cornholio" bit.
What are some slang terms that you never hear anymore?

I am personally trying to revive the term "aces".
Example:
"How are you, Joe?"
my reply: "Aces, baby, aces."
Been at it for a few years now and I'm still not sure why this amuses me.

I've already posted about my efforts to revive the term "aces" when someone you know asks how I'm doing...
But here's another goofy little thing I've been doing lately.
Upon being introduced to someone new, just say, with a serious face, "Charmed, I'm sure." Keep it monotone and the reactions are usually priceless. Just another way I've been keeping myself amused.

“Hair.”
Back in the 60s and early 70s, used to describe unusually long hair on a man, and spoken not just approvingly, but with awe, especially by those of us who were not allowed to grow our hair long and/or lived in conservative households where the channel was changed on the tv if a guy with particularly long hair appeared. The channel would be changed after hoots and cries of, “Is that a boy or a girl?”
The next day at school we’d be talking about the few seconds we got to see of, say, a Mark Farner or an Iggy Pop and tell those not in the know,
“And he had HAIR!”
It was mandantory that this phrase be followed by the speaker indicating with one hand on the small of his back how long this wondrous growth was.
“Rate.”
An approving term to describe almost anything that was judged to be of high quality.
“Man, that new GTO rates!
“Goofy Foot.”
The way a left-handed person surfs or skateboards with feet positioned opposite on the board from how righties would ride.
Goofy Foot was also the brand name of the first big skateboard company and just having one of their skateboards had subversive overtones.
These skateboards were not the bigass planks the kids now ride, but were much more sleek in appearance and, guessing from a dusty memory, probably no more than 16 inches long.

what does this mean anyway?
From Wikipedia...
23 skidoo (sometimes 23 skiddoo) is an American slang phrase popularized in the early twentieth century, first appearing before World War I and becoming popular in the Roaring Twenties. It generally refers to leaving quickly, being forced to leave quickly by someone else or taking advantage of a propitious opportunity to leave, that is, "getting [out] while the getting's good."

Friends from LI would say "mint" i.e. 'that's mint' (good)
Word up reminded me of "money grip" for some reason it was cool to call eachother that in 91. 'word up money grip'
We used to say 'ex' a lot for 'excellent' as kids. 'that's ex'
(radical was so huge at one point there was a movie named after it)
Did someone mention 'homie?'
Also - 'sweet' kind of fell off recently.
